One thing we try to do here at Dread Central is keep you as up-to-date as possible on all the latest literary horror news, and this morning we have info on Terry M. West's intriguingly titled Heroin in the Magic Now, due out on August 31st.
A trade paperback is expected to quickly follow for this horror novella that is described as "'Breaking Bad' meets 'True Blood'."
As a bit of back story, Heroin in the Magic Now is a dark and personal tale by Terry M. West.
Though known more recently for his highly praised horror fiction, West spent a short period of his career on the fringe of the adult film industry. He wrote and directed soft-core films. This association nearly ruined his reputation as a serious artist, and West went into a deep depression that resulted in substance abuse.

The official trailer for horror anthology film Gallery of Fear just arrived online, and it contains an amazing amount of screaming, creepy characters doing bad things to each other. The film is made up of four stories, and the lovely Debbie Rochon ties them all together as Ms. Roberta Van Houten.
The shorts within the film are entitled "Critic's Choice", "By Her Hand She Drags You Down", "Down the Drain" and "A Far Cry From Home". The first thing people will notice about horror director Alan Rowe Kelly (Don't Look In The Basement, I'll Bury You Tomorrow) is that he is a gender bender, but Kelly has been bending more then genders his entire career as he has broken out the idea of conventionality. At the age of 39, with 40 just right around the corner, he had an epiphany. Bored with a career as a stylist, he made the sudden and dramatic move to horror. First testing the waters as an author, he switched over to the world of indie horror film directing where he won great acclaim for "I"ll Bury You Tomorrow". As he continued to direct films, he also started making a name for himself in the indie horror world as an actor playing power players, agents, something that rhymes with witch, etc. These were powerful, empowered characters that personally reflected upon Alan Rowe Kelly himself.

Filming for Alan Rowe Kelly's remake of the drive-in classic, Don't Look in the Basement has been postponed. According to Kelly the bad economy is taking its toll on indie films this year, but he hopes to have the film up and running by 2010. In the meantime, Kelly plans on completing the anthology Gallery of Fear starring an all-star indie horror cast including Debbie Rochon, Raine Brown, Terry West, Jerry Murdock, plus many more. Fans can expect Gallery sometime around February/March 2010.

I had never seen any of Alan Rowe Kelly’s films until he contacted me—literally moments after posting my first Gay Of The Dead blog. And yes, that is Alan in the photo to the left. Don’t worry, we’ll get to that later.
Kelly’s opening salvo to me was the grisly, intense and controversial A Far Cry From Home segment from the recently wrapped Gallery Of Fear anthology, which he co-wrote, co-directed and produced for his Southpaw Pictures. From there I jumped back to his first feature, I’LL Bury You Tomorrow, a loopy, sprawling, bloody feature that manages to wind storylines of seven main characters into one big crazy fest. After that, I popped in The Blood Shed, which starts off with a preteen kid being yanked in half and just gets more insane (see: awesome) from there.

Terry M. West's psychological werewolf novel Dreg has been optioned by the company that has supplied us with great Tokyo Shock titles, Media Blasters!
According to Mr. West, "Dreg was optioned off and on by a few companies through the years, and now I am very excited about seeing Dreg finally brought to life on the screen. Media Blaster’s Carl Morano read the novel while we were shooting Flesh for the Beast and approached me last year about putting it together for Fever Dreams. Dreg is ambitious, and Carl has encouraged me to adapt the screenplay balls to the walls. It’s going to be fun. Dreg is a weird hybrid of fairy tale, good old-fashioned horror and suspense"
With West handling the first draft of Dreg, fans shouldn't have to worry about too much being changed from the original novel. For those of you who haven't read the story yet,...
