Cillian Murphy, the veteran actor known for working on projects like Peaky Blinders, Batman Begins, and, Oppenheimer, is all set for his Oscar nomination. Being an Irish actor, Murphy is extremely proud and yet, humbled, to receive a nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role.
Talking about the subject of fame, Murphy simply accepted that even if he did win the Oscar, he still wouldn’t be more famous than Irish football coach Roy Keane! The humbling sentences reminded people of Keanu Reeves as they root for their favorite actor to win his deserving Oscar.

There wasn’t a dry eye in the house among the full cast and crew on the last day of filming Ted Lasso‘s season three. The shot was in the fictional Richmond Fc locker room before its championship game against rival West Ham — and before beloved coach Ted Lasso, played by Jason Sudeikis (who’s nominated for lead actor and writing in addition to comedy series), was scheduled to return to the U.S. Instead of his usual pep talk, Lasso introduces a video, looking back at the team’s growth. “The tears are real,” says Declan Lowney, who directed this episode and eight others during the three seasons of the 11-time Emmy-winning Apple TV+ series. (Its 10 noms this year include nods to most of the talent mentioned in this story.) Famously based on a 2013 NBC Sports promo, Sudeikis’ depiction of an American college football coach who moves to...

eOne is prepping an adaptation of Janice Hallett’s The Twyford Code – the first fruits of the studio’s deal with BAFTA-winning writer-director Paul Andrew Williams. The book is written via automatic transcriptions of recordings made by a former prisoner determined to discover what happened to his teacher. eOne will co-produce with former Sky Studios drama boss Cameron Roach’s Rope Ladder Fiction, with Williams directing and eOne handling global rights. “Janice Hallett’s ingenious second novel has rightly gained a fanbase of epic proportions,” said Sharon Hughff, eOne’s Creative Director, Scripted Television, UK. Stormzy admitted he was “a bit flustered” after appearing on live television to share his views about Manchester United's 2-1 victory over Liverpool on Monday night (22 August).
The British artist joined football pundits Roy Keane, Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville after the match, telling the trio he was “starstruck”.
Dressed in a Manchester United top alongside his young nephews, who also wore team tracksuits, he waved at fans who recognised him from the stands.
“Sorry I'm a bit flustered right now,” he said, which made the former footballers laugh. “I've never met these guys before. We were just walking past and we were starstruck and someone gave me a mic and I'm up here like 'Mum, I made it'.
“This is sick though. Man's on telly with the boys.”

How far can immaculate eyebrows and a whole host of talent get you in life? Well, if Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein is any indication, the answer is pretty freaking far!
When Ted Lasso first premiered on Apple TV+ in August 2020, it immediately made waves for having a deep bench of compelling supporting players to act opposite lead Jason Sudeikis. But with the utmost respect to Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, and everyone else in the AFC Richmond football team’s orbit, it was Brett Goldstein’s Roy Kent who jumped off the screen in particular.
Loosely inspired by the real life footballer Roy Keane, Roy Kent is a veteran at the tail end of his career whose gruff exterior (including multiple profanities and damn near monosyllabic speech patterns) neatly cover up a vibrant inner sensitivity. In embodying the surprisingly deep Kent, Goldstein won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting...

The Premier League has always been known for its high intensity since its formation in 1992. No other league in Europe can offer the high-tempo of play that England’s top division can, and because of this it has attracted the cream of the crop of talent. With the best talent comes the biggest rivalries and the most passion, and inevitably, that often spills over.
The men in the middle have certainly had their hands full over the last 24 years in an attempt to keep the game as free-flowing as possible, but at times the big egos and rivalries that have formed have made it a near-impossible task. Consider trying to handle the latest round of Roy Keane versus Patrick Vieira to name just one.
While bone-crunching, eye-watering tackles a plenty over the years, fans have often had to look at replays through the gaps in their fingers,...

Let’s face it – Sunderland aren’t renowned for being a well-oiled goal machine. The Premier League strugglers have been clinging on for dear life in recent seasons, and face another fight in the coming months to remain in England’s top flight.
In spite of their struggles, however, there have been a few bright moments on Wearside in recent years. We’ve witnessed the Peter Reid (sort of) glory years, the promotion push under Roy Keane, mid-table stability under Steve Bruce and the Capital One Cup final under Gus Poyet. Clutching at straws, you say? Not at all…
Sunderland fans love a cult hero, and they love a prolific goalscorer – they just rarely get one. Several players have threatened to step up to icon status during the Premier League era (many of them are in this piece), though less than a handful are now held in high regard by Sunderland fans.

Should Sunderland survive relegation this season (never a guarantee when the Black Cats are concerned), they will have played ten consecutive seasons in the Premier League. Their nine-year spell in the top flight has been a tumultuous, often terrible one, but still doesn’t feel too extensive.
For many on Wearside, the memory of Roy Keane saving the club from the Championship relegation zone and leading a charge to first place will seem like only yesterday.
But what became of these heroes? Crucial figures in the club’s modern history, relatively little is known about Tobias Hysen or Stern John, for example. Come to think of it, what’s Dwight Yorke up to? Is Nyron Nosworthy still battling away in the lower leagues?
Here’s a look at Roy Keane’s heroic 2006/07 promotion team. A few have retired, but many are playing out the twilight years...

Roy Keane is best known for his full-blooded displays at the heart of the Manchester United midfield for over a decade, captaining the Red Devils to many a trophy.
Well, that and growing a ridiculously angry looking beard in recent times.
The man affectionately known by the Old Trafford faithful as simply Keano is just as known for holding up trophies as he is for his horror tackles and angry scowl. To describe Keane’s style as combative would be as much of an understatement as saying that he had a mild dislike for Mick McCarty.
Where Roy is concerned, nobody is off limits when it comes to feeling his wrath, and this includes his opponents, his own managers, his own team-mates, his own fans, the press, and pretty much anyone who happened to catch him on an off day It’s safe to say, Roy Keane...

The seemingly never-ending list of I'm a Celebrity rumours has been circulating for months - everyone from Roy Keane to Hulk Hogan - but this week some famous faces have actually started landing in Australia with only days to go before the kangaroo testicle-eating begins.

He might never have pulled up too many trees at Newcastle in his years on Tyneside – and is mostly remembered for scoring after just 15 seconds of coming on against Sunderland, and also for the most horrific (and apparently intentional) miss for Sunderland against the Magpies – but Michael Chopra has his eyes on a big prize in the new Indian Super League.
The former Newcastle striker is currently playing for Kerala Blasters, and believes his experience of working under Roy Keane and Sir Bobby Robson means he would be a perfect candidate to follow in the footsteps of David James and Marco Materazzi, who are both currently player-managing clubs in the competition:
“Look at some of the managers I have worked under – the likes of Sir Bobby Robson and Roy Keane. Sir Bobby was one of the best managers in history. I learnt so much from him.

The list of things that Paul Merson has got wrong as a football pundit is worryingly long for someone who continues to be in full-time employment for an outlet as big as Sky Sports, but at least he’s consistently entertaining, which is more than can be said about Alan Shearer.
Hilariously, Merson is usually the go-to guy for Sky Sports’ weekly predictions column, despite the fact that his predictions are generally off the mark. This week, he has suggested that there is more disappointment coming for Newcastle United as Alan Pardew continues to look for his first league win this season: for Merson, it won’t be coming tomorrow.
Here’s his assessment, having predicted a 2-2 draw:
“This is one of those games where the Newcastle fans will turn up expecting to win. They drew their last game with Swansea, which was a bit...

While the world of Newcastle United has fallen apart in the past couple weeks, Roy Keane has entertained everyone with snippets from his new book in which he attempts to break down every past relationship he’s ever had. A significant portion of the media focus in the North East for the book has fallen on his choice assessment of Newcastle United as an arrogant club who have no right to think they’re very good at all, and his all-encompassing love of Sunderland, including the people and the place.
The book – with its hilarious revelations about Robbie Savage and savage verbal take-downs of Rob Lee, Alan Shearer, Ellis Short and pretty much anyone Keane ever met is out now and one Tesco store has used one of Keane’s own infamous quotes – this time not from his book – as a means to merchandise the inflammatory autobiography.

Last year, an embittered Roy Keane described Sir Alex Ferguson’s main strength, and also weakness, as one and the same – ‘his ruthlessness’. While the former Manchester United captain clearly has a chip on his shoulder over the way he was so readily tossed into the wilderness after 12 and a half years of service at Old Trafford, the Irishman does have a point. There was no room for sentiment when Sir Alex was conducting his transfer dealings.
It didn’t matter how many medals a player had acquired, or how many goals they had scored for the club – once they had begun to tip over the slope of their peak, more often that not they were looking for a new club. Players must also have known their place, as Ferguson famously stated that ‘nobody was bigger than the club’, which led to some high-profile bust-ups,...

With his usual commitment to class and decency, Roy Keane has released another inflammatory book, full of some of the pearls of wisdom that made him such a great manager…
The famed raconteur and known intellect had kept some of his juiciest morsels away from the first book – which famously got him in trouble for admitting he purposely tried to injure Alfie-Inge Haland, and basically ended his Man Utd career along with a silly elbow on Jason McAteer – in order to spin a bit more money with a follow up.
Now that he has pretty much failed as a manager – despite claims that he turned down Celtic in the summer because they didn’t make him feel wanted – Keane has released that second volume, detailing things like a training ground fight with Peter Schmeichel, why he wishes he hadn’t apologised to Sir Alex Ferguson and...

Often perceived as the unfashionable kid brother to their North-East counterparts Newcastle United, despite their arch-rivals lack of silverware lifting in recent decades, Sunderland supporters have grown weary at the lack of recognition. Mocked and derided for collecting the tag of ‘worst Premier League side in history’ with a pathetic total of 19 points in 2003, they would go on to outdo themselves with four points less upon their return in 2005.
So when Roy Keane assumed the reigns of control in 2006, he wasn’t just stepping into a relegated club down on its’ luck – he was entering a mess. A club devoid of any self-confidence or belief, they were only heading one way before his arrival, with four successive losses opening the curtain on what would prove to be a rejuvenating season for the club.

Despite uttering the infamous line "you can't win anything with kids", Alan Hansen went on to become one of the longest-running and most well-respected football pundits in the UK.
After 22 years, Hansen has appeared on his final edition of Match of the Day on BBC One, leaving Alan Shearer as the only regular pundit alongside Gary Lineker on the flagship football show.
With a place to fill, Digital Spy has selected 11 potential candidates to replace Hansen as the next full-time pundit from the 2014/15 season onwards.
1. Gary Neville
The BBC may be tempted to sensationally poach arguably the best pundit working today in Gary Neville. Sky are highly unlikely to let the older Neville leave, but he would bring a modern, technology-filled touch to proceedings. Despite only working on TV for a couple of seasons, he has already built a reputation as an intelligent expert, rather than just an ex-player saying a few words on screen.

In the early years of the Premier League, having a hardman in your team was seen as a necessity. From Roy Keane to Stuart Pearce, the division was littered with players who prided themselves on their tough tackling and no nonsense approach. However, today such characters are a rarity.
Arsenal themselves have boasted several hardmen over the years. The start of Arsene Wenger’s reign was perhaps the dying embers of that type of player, with Tony Adams and co representing a throwback to the George Graham era.
Since then, it would be fair to say that the modern game has taken a shift. Out went the bruising tacklers and in came the tiki taka passers. It means we have witnessed less fighting and bone-crunching challenges, and more handbags and diving. A sight that must certainly infuriate Vinnie Jones and the rest of Wimbledon’s ‘Crazy Gang’.

I never thought I'd ever say this, but ITV aren't as bad as everyone makes out when it comes to live football. Hear me out - it's not as crazy as it may first sound.
For years, I've been baffled that anyone would choose to watch ITV over BBC One if given the choice. However, as this year's World Cup has proved so far, both channels have had their fair share of gaffes and errors.
The BBC is pretty stellar when it comes to live tennis, snooker, athletics and many other sports, and Match of the Day is clearly light years ahead of ITV's The Premiership, but has ITV suddenly gained back some ground this year?
There's probably two words that you're thinking which throws out my argument: Adrian Chiles. The former BBC man has become the face of ITV football, possibly because they're stuck with him and don't know where to plonk him.

Brazil; a country famed for its sunshine, vibrancy and unrivalled passion for the beautiful game. What do we give it in return? Adrian Chiles. It hardly seems like a fair deal.
Is it any surprise that Chiles and his ITV team found themselves under fire from Brazilian members of the public, who pelted the ITV glass studio? We've had to suffer Chiles and Andy Townsend's "top, top" commentary cliches for years, so count yourself lucky guys.
Of course, the studio attack wasn't really about the arrival of Adrian Chiles's face on Brazilian soil. It was actually about deep-rooted political and social unrest and the fact some people are not happy at the money that has been pumped into the 'carnival of football'.
However, give the Brazilians a month of ITV Sport 'banter' and the terrible twosome of Tyldesley and Townsend and they'll soon realise that there are things much...

Roy Keane has quit ITV's World Cup punditry team to focus on football coaching.
The former Manchester United captain currently works with the Republic of Ireland setup, and has also been linked with an assistant role at Aston Villa under Paul Lambert.
An ITV spokesperson said: "Roy has been a tremendous part of our pundit team in recent years, but we fully understand his decision to concentrate wholly on his coaching. We wish him every success for the future."
Adrian Chiles will present ITV's World Cup 2014 coverage, and will be joined by pundits including Lee Dixon, Patrick Vieira, Glenn Hoddle, Ian Wright, Andros Townsend, Martin O'Neill, Gordon Strachan, Gus Poyet and Fabio Cannavaro.
Keane previously appeared at ITV's World Cup launch two weeks ago, but has decided not to travel to Brazil.
ITV is thought to be open to Keane returning in the future.

Today’s era of prima donna, poney-tailed, glove-wearing-if-it’s-a-bit-chilly footballers are a far cry from the good old days when you’d warrant a slap for having the temerity for diving in the penalty area or wearing a vest in the middle of April.
Football’s gone soft – particularly at Manchester United – that is, if you choose to buy into our dearly-departed ex-manager David Moyes’s recent claims that certain individuals were “playing like girls”.
To be fair, he probably has a point.
Whether it’s the sight of Ashley Young taking a tumble in a light breeze or a group of millionaires failing to score from 12 yards out four times against Sunderland in one of the worst shootouts ever, some of our players have hardly covered themselves in glory this season.

The opening episode of Britain's Got Talent was delayed this evening (April 12) by ITV's coverage of Fa Cup football.
The semi-final tie between Wigan Athletic and Arsenal went to extra time and penalties, resulting in Britain's Got Talent starting 45 minutes later than scheduled at 8pm. Arsenal emerged victorious.
The news was met with anger from some enthusiastic fans of Simon Cowell's talent show, while others hoped that the episode would be delayed indefinitely. However, most took the opportunity to joke about the situation.
Take a look at some of the best reactions to the delay below:

Irish international striker Kevin Doyle has completed a loan move to Qpr, bolstering the Hoops’ campaign for the Championship title and promotion back to the Premier League.
The 30-year-old former Reading and Cork City striker has had a woeful year in League One, netting a mere 3 times in England’s third tier, but the former Premier League hitman has now joined Harry Redknapp’s newest “Barmy Army” at Queens Park Rangers.
Doyle was a true star at Reading, netting 65 goals in a 4-year stint at the club, including 18 goals per year in his 2 years in the Championship and an impressive 13 strikes in their 2006-07 Premier League campaign.
However, he’s failed to hit the heights since his move to Wolverhampton Wanderers, and the last 2 years have seen him suffer successive relegations from the Premier League and the Championship.

As content with dolling out verbal kickings as literal ones, Roy Keane’s had his fair share of feuds. Even as a TV pundit the ex-Manchester United captain is still highly flammable. Indeed, he seems dangerously on the verge of spontaneous combustion every time Adrian Chiles prattles through an autocue and his lust for provocation continues to extend from trolling the godfather of the Premier League to telling Patrick Viera that he wasn’t as tough as him.
So with the documentary Keane Vs Viera: The Best of Enemies recently airing on ITV, it seems only right that we whittle down the abrasive Irishman’s top 5 beefs. For those who didn’t make it onto the list, honorable mentions go to the prawn sandwich brigade, Dwight Yorke, Wags and anyone who makes fun of his Irish heritage (strictly not advised).

Roy Keane and Patrick Vieira have discussed their long-running rivalry in a documentary for ITV4.
Keane and Vieira: Best of Enemies will see the former midfielders talk face-to-face about their combative relationship.
The pair's rivalry dates back to their Premier League football careers when they were captains of opposing teams Manchester United and Arsenal.
During the programme, the retired footballers will relive the most tense, frustrating and important moments of their careers, including the so-called 'Battle of Old Trafford' in 2003.
The sportsmen go on to discuss their infamous argument in the tunnel at Highbury in 2005, when Keane stepped in to defend teammate Gary Neville during a row with Vieira.
Viewers can also expect to hear Keane and Vieira's honest opinions of managers Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsène Wenger.

Former Sunderland boss Martin O’Neill has called his successor at the north east club Paolo Di Canio a “managerial charlatan,” in a huge criticism of the former West Ham United striker.
O’Neill lost his job at the Stadium of Light in March earlier this year after a poor run of results left the club in a perilous position going into the final few games of the Premier League campaign.
Di Canio was appointed his successor, and immediately set about changing things at the club, including banning ketchup and ice in drinks in his totalitarian approach to management, much to O’Neill’s dismay.

It has always been one of the Premier League’s most anticipated fixtures – great goals, mistakes, penalty misses, red card and fights – from some of the country’s best players and managers.
Ryan Gigg’s individual effort in 1999, then there are the games in Arsenal’s invincible era – the battles between Patrick Viera and Roy Keane, Thierry Henry’s tremendous volley, Ruud van Nistlerooy’s penalty miss the ensuing melee – then there is the 8-2 humiliation of Arsenal in 2011 and Robin Van Persie’s transfer to Arsenal’s great rivals, and that is just a small list of events.
Another of the talking points this fixture produces is the battle between Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger. This season though, it is David Moyes in charge and you cannot help but feel that his more laid back...

Martin O’Neill’s appointment as the new Republic Of Ireland manager is one that has set tongues wagging across the country. That may seem strange to some observers, as O’Neill is one of the UK’s most highly respected managers, but his choice of Roy Keane as assistant is one that raises several questions.
The news was officially broken during ITV’s coverage of Real Sociedad’s clash with Manchester United this week, and an initial two-year deal has been agreed with both men. The length of this contract is ideal as it allows job security for throughout the attempt to reach Euro 2016, yet also an easy way out should the duo of Keane and O’Neill fail to meet expectations.
This is a recognition by the Fai of the dangers of such a bold move. While football has seen some strange management teams work throughout history, this...

As the dust settles on what was in all honestly a damp squib of a transfer deadline day there has been a lot of mirth, scorn and indeed over reaction directed towards Manchester United and specifically David Moyes and Ed Woodward. The loss of Sir Alex Ferguson as manager, the strengthening of the squads closest to them and the apparent failure of United to strengthen sufficiently has sent some United fans into a tailspin and opposition fans into a state of high hysteria. Justifiable? Probably not to be quite honest.
United won the league in a canter last season by 11 points. They had the top scorer in the league, scored the most goals, lost the fewest games, had the best home record in the league…oh, and the best away record too. The only player to leave the club that had any significant impact on that record and championship was Paul Scholes.

Former Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate has been unveiled as the new England Under 21′s boss, signing a three-year contract, reports BBC.
The 42-year old former England international replaces Stuart Pearce who was let go following a disastrous performance at the recent Under 21 European Championship, where the Three Lions were knocked out at the group stage without registering a single win.
Southgate made over 50 appearances as an England player in a career that saw him play for Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and Middlesbrough who he captained to Carling Cup success in 2004.
Since leaving his role as manager at the Riverside Stadium, Southgate was appointed as the Fa’s Head of Elite Development before leaving the post in July of last year.
In recent times he has regularly appeared as a pundit for ITV’s football coverage alongside the likes of Roy Keane and Lee Dixon, but is now faced with the...

I am a football fan but I have a confession. I am a traitor. I’ve switched allegiances not once, but twice. Any fan will tell you this crime is relatively rare and to have performed it twice is almost unheard of.
So why do I consider myself above the laws of football fandom? Well my story starts from a very early age. Being a year older than me, I worshipped my next-door neighbour like a God growing up. Everything he did I automatically did, and one of those things was support Manchester United. Now he could’ve supported Liverpool (my uncles were adamant I would be a Liverpool fan before finally giving up after the third replica shirt purchase), Arsenal or even Wolverhampton Wanderers and I would’ve done the same.
Luckily, for most of my childhood I supported the most successful team of all time including an extra...

In what proved to be an emotional final week of farewells in the Premier League, there is one player in particular that will be sorely missed by fans of the beautiful game. After making over 700 appearances and notching up over 150 goals for his boyhood club Manchester United, Paul Scholes pulled on the famous red shirt for the last time in his illustrious career. The midfield maestro has written himself into United folklore, and his talent is one that will be hard to replace.
Lest we forget, this is the player that was described as “undoubtedly the best midfielder of his generation”, by none other than Zinedine Zidane, and whilst his last season may not have been his best, he has undoubtedly been an integral cog in the United winning machine that has gone on to dominate the Premier League for the last 20 years.
And now the unenviable task of replacing...

This is turning out to be one of the single most tumultuous weeks in Manchester United’s recent history.
News yesterday that long-serving manager Sir Alex Ferguson will retire at the end of the season is still sinking in and, as if to throw the future of the club into further chaos, it was reported today that Wayne Rooney wants to quit. Again.
The 27-year old reportedly told Ferguson two weeks ago that he felt “the time was right” to call time on his nine-year Old Trafford stay, with Bayern Munich a potential destination.
The England international has been atypically off the boil this season, and has scored just half the amount of goals he managed last season.
He was even omitted from Ferguson’s starting XI for the second leg Champions League clash against Real Madrid in the last 16 of the Champions League earlier this season.
Now, almost a decade after leaving Everton,...

Midfield has quite often been an area of concern for Manchester United.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s men were overrun in the 2009 Champions League final against Barcelona, and again two years later, and they have lacked an enforcer ever since Roy Keane’s departure in 2005. Meanwhile, the once majestic talents of Ryan Giggs and particularly Paul Scholes are beginning to wane, while there are serious doubts over the futures of a number of other players.
Nani has been linked with a move away from the club, as has Anderson, while Shinji Kagawa and Darren Fletcher have suffered injury-laden campaigns and have spent much of the current season on the sidelines.
The arrival of Wilfried Zaha from Crystal Palace in the summer will provide United’s midfield with a much needed injection of youthful vitality and pace, but the overriding feeling is that there is still much work to be done in the midfield department for Ferguson.

Ever since the inauguration of the Premier League back in 1990, it has born witness to a huge influx of foreigners from abroad and likewise, it has seen many big money transfers from within the borders. Whilst some of these big bucks transfers do pay off, and the new recruit makes a big impact at their new club, this isn’t always the case…
Millions and Millions of pounds have been squandered by clubs over the years, on obtaining mediocre and sometimes disastrous signings. As you’d imagine particular clubs are more suspect to these flops than others, proving that it is indeed possible to have more money than sense.
This article will list 15 of what I believe to be the Worst Ever Premier League signings. Feel free to post if you disagree with my list, and please post your own lists in response to this.
