Founded by Danish-born musician, Henrik Ostergaard, Dirty Looks is an American hard rock band formed in 1984 in Erie, Pennsylvania. While functioning as a band, and appearing to be a band in the eyes of the general public, Dirty Looks was primarily a solo act featuring Ostergaard and the musicians who backed him. Ostergaard was the band's founder, manager, lead singer, guitarist, and primary songwriter. During its initial lifespan of 12 years, the band used four different names and had a revolving door of over 50 members, with Ostergaard being the only constant member.
Although the group had disbanded numerous times, they had an extended hiatus from 1996 when Ostergaard retired from the music industry, until 2007. That year, Ostergaard, who was an admitted alcoholic, nearly died of alcohol poisoning. The experience stirred up emotions which he started to put down on paper and turning into songs. He reformed the band and started rehearsing, planning a tour, and recording songs. But after years of alcohol abuse, his health was in decline and the process took a toll on him. Unable to devote the energy to the reunion, nothing significant ever took place.
Dirty Looks officially and permanently ended on January 27, 2011 when Ostergaard succumbed to liver failure in hospice care.
