UK-based Film Republic has secured international rights to Lithuanian director Eglė Vertelytė’s Tasty, the winner of the Screen International best pitch award at Tallinn’s Baltic Event in 2020.
Tasty is a comedy about two friends working in a canteen who take part in a cooking competition on TV. Principal photography will take place in Vilnius and Kaunas from October.

Eleven of the projects are debut features.
European development programme Less Is More (Lim) has selected 16 feature film projects for its 2022 scheme, plus the 12 ‘development angels’ who will follow the development of the projects, and four tutors who will provide guidance to the selected teams.
Among the titles are Bethan, the debut feature of UK writer-director Zillah Bowes; and Deborah Viegas’ Brazilian-Portuguese debut feature Young Woman Seen From Behind.

The 2020 Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival has named the winners of its Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event awards.

German project development event will showcase 28 projects from 34 countries.
The third edition of the European Work in Progress Cologne (Ewip) will unfold as a physical event in spite of the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, its organisers have announced.
Running October 5 to 7 within the framework of the 30th Cologne Film Festival, the meeting will showcase 28 projects from 34 countries.
“The experiences in Cannes and other industry events in this corona year have shown that the direct exchange of people, despite numerous digital communication possibilities, cannot be replaced by anything,” commented Torsten Frehse, a board member of German independent distributors’ association Ag Verleih.

London-based sales agency Film Republic has boarded Finnish film “Eden” as it prepares for the European Film Market in Berlin. The company has released a teaser for the film.
“Eden,” the debut feature film by Ulla Heikkilä, is produced by Miia Haavisto from Tekele Productions. It will be released in Finland in the summer by Nordisk Film.
A coming-of-age film about a religious summer camp, Eden tells the story through the eyes of three youths who are torn between ideology, independence and falling in love.
Heikkilä said: “It’s been a wonderful experience to be making a coming-of-age film. For me, youth is condensed humanity: it’s almost like being an adult but not having had the time to get used to all the drama that life consists of.
