In Dunki, Shah Rukh Khan’s character Hardy Singh waits forever for his beloved. He falls in love with Taapsee Pannu’s Mannu. She’s obviously smitten with him, and their romance soars. Unfortunately, they separate in unforeseen circumstances and don’t see each other for twenty-five long years. But Hardy doesn’t move on from Mannu and lives in utter solitude, possibly also abstaining from you-know-what. He grows old and weary, but his love for Mannu remains as fresh as a daisy. It is bound to remind you of the Yash Chopra epic Veer Zara, which released almost two decades ago, where Khan played a very similar character. Like Dunki’s Hardy, Veer Pratap Singh was also an army man. Akin to how Hardy meets Mannu, Veer too met Zara accidentally. Not to mention, he also fell in love, which was reciprocated, and then the lovers had to part ways.

When the Latin Grammys announced its nominees last week, the corridos tumbados of Rancho Humilde’s top acts were notably missing from its list. Not a single project from the likes of Fuerza Régida, Natanael Cano, or Junior H made the cut.
On Monday, Jimmy Humilde — the head of Rancho Humilde and an early champion for the urban-leaning música Mexicana subgenre — lashed out against the Latin Recording Academy for snubbing his label’s acts, describing the leaders of the Academy as out of touch with the culture and music.
“What do I think about it?...

We love this Fritz Lang western even though it’s not particularly good; only in hindsight do we realize that the brilliant director’s intentions may have been compromised. High-key lighting does Marlene Dietrich no favors, but she scores good scenes performing with Arthur Kennedy (revenged crazed cowpoke) and Mel Ferrer (tranquilized gunslinger). Lang fans will be impressed by the gaudy, over-bright restored Technicolor, and we can always blame Howard Hughes.

It has been over a decade since the release of “3 Idiots” and it still takes me on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Set in the highly reputable (and fictional) Imperial College of Engineering (Ice), the film takes us through India’s mentally invigorating education system amidst class inequality and immense societal and familial pressure. Our three idiots – Ranchoddas “Rancho” Shyamaldas Chanchad (Aamir Khan), Raju Rastogi (Sharman Joshi), and Farhan Qureshi (R Madhavan) navigate the all too familiar rat race with their uplifting motto “All is well”. Witty dialogues, comedic scenes and catchy tunes aside, this didactic film convinces us that life is more than just a race. Highly decorated with awards, the film establishes itself as one of the best in Hindi cinema and the region up till today.
Loosely based on Chetan Bhagat’s Five Point Someone, “3 Idiots” depicts an intertwinement of two plotlines...
