As a comedian, Sarah Silverman says the type of humor she personally gravitates toward is the really “aggressively dumb, silly humor,” such as fart jokes. But lately, she has become much more known for her political commentary on her Emmy-nominated Hulu show, “I Love You, America With Sarah Silverman,” as well as on her Twitter account.
“I never made a plan of who I wanted to be or what I wanted to talk about,” Silverman says. “The world around me is just my ‘General Hospital’.… Eventually the world around me became more interesting to me.”
Silverman, set to receive her star Nov. 9 on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, says she can’t pinpoint a specific moment that made her want to incorporate more of what was going on around her in the world into her work. But, she says, she has “come to a place in my life where I...

The “Today” is facing pushback after dedicating time Wednesday to an interview with Patrick Casey, executive director of the white “identitarian” group Identity Evropa.
“We are telling this story to pull back the curtain so parents and college students are aware that these groups are out there,” said NBC correspondent Peter Alexander. “The Southern Poverty Law Center calls Identity Evropa one of the most active new hate groups in America. There members are clean cut, they are conservatively dressed and they’re recruiting on a campus near you.”
In the interview, Casey, whose organization only accepts white members and marched in the deadly Unite The Right rally in Charlottesville, laid out his case matter of factly.

“Ethnic diversity has been proven time and time again, it’s not a good model for society,” he said.

“I wanted to do something that was like Mr. Rogers for adults” says Sarah Silverman about her Hulu variety sketch series “I Love You America.” In our recent webchat (watch the exclusive video above), she explains, “I liked the challenge of having hard comedy with heart, care, empathy and compassion. Can those things co-exist? I think that they can. I want to connect with people and be earnest. But we want to sandwich it in a big bready sandwich of aggressively, dumb, ridiculous, silly comedy.’”
In working with Funny or Die, Silverman delivers monologues, travels the country to meet people, performs comedy sketches and interviews people who have experienced change. She reveals, “I wanted to do a show that was about social politics and feelings. And what I’ve learned is that it’s about connecting with people. You certainly don’t change people’s minds by shouting facts and poll numbers at them.

It didn’t take the tragedy in Charlottesville for Samantha Bee and her Full Frontal team to seek out ways to support the end of white supremacy in America.
“This is our bread and butter,” Bee, 47, tells People. “This is the stuff we’re interested in and passionate about.”
Prior to the Saturday attack at a white supremacist rally that left one dead and 19 injured, the late night host had been approached by field producer Tyler Hall and associate producer Lauren Walker about doing a story on the nonprofit Life After Hate, which was about to lose its $400,000 government grant.
