John Malkovich's Playing Lynch series, where the actor reimagined some of David Lynch's most iconic character, concluded Monday with Malkovich recreating a scene from 1980's The Elephant Man.
The nearly unrecognizable Malkovich, assuming the role made famous by John Hurt, plays real life "Elephant Man" Joseph "John" Merrick in the pivotal scene where the deformed man quotes Psalm 23 of the Bible, which convinces doctors to allow him to remain under hospital care.
"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want," Malkovich mutters under a thick mask of makeup and prosthetics.

After a challenging 2012, the lines have been drawn and the troops are in position for the 2013 radio year. Colin Delaney looks across the country at the old and new faces and the biggest fights on the cards in the battle for the ratings win.
2012 was a tumultuous year for Australia’s radio industry. Marred by several well-publicised incidents, the reputations and standing of talent, management and key brands in the space took a beating, as did the image of the medium as a whole.

In this roundup from the Encore and Mumbrella Annual, we look back at the year in radio.
2012 begins with 2DayFM shock jock Kyle Sandilands in a continuing sponsorship shit-storm. Jenny Craig is the first to sponsor the Kyle and Jackie O breakfast show after advertisers withdrew from the program in late 2011 following Sandilands’ vitriolic on-air rant at a News.com.au journalist that included calling her a ‘fat slag’. The public response to the weight loss brand’s decision to advertise sees them cancel their ads 24 hours later.
——————————————————————————————————–
Claire Hooper and Tim ‘Rosso’ Ross start their new partnership on Sydney’s Mix106.5 breakfast show as Jane Hall joins Chrissie Swan on Melbourne’s Mix101.1 breakfast show.
——————————————————————————————————–
The Kyle and Jackie O Show opens the year with a ratings drop from 11.2 per cent to 10.1 per cent. Elsewhere, Adelaide’s Mix 102.3 clings to a market lead ahead of FiveAA.

Triple M presenter Merrick Watts has made a mock version of the 1980s Tourism Australia ad which starred Paul Hogan and the famous line ‘throw another shrimp on the barbie’.
The online ad for Meat & Livestock Australia created by Bmf is part of Mla’s ‘Throw another steak on the barbie’ campaign.
The idea behind the campaign is to petition the tourism board to remake the original ad and undo the stereotype that Australians ‘throw shrimps’ on the barbecue.
Watts told Mumbrella: “We had a whole lot of hits for the petition that was set up by Mla and as a result I’ve made a recreation of the Tourism Australia ad.
“It’s funny because it’s so crappy. Basically Mla said just do whatever you want to do.” he said.

Lukis and Stynes
Arn is to tear up its key programming lineup on Sydney station Mix 106.5.
The wholesale changes include a brand new breakfast show for Sydney and drivetime show for Sydney and Melbourne.
The new hosts of the Sydney breakfast show will be Sami Lukis – who moves from drivetime where she co-hosted a show with the departing Ant Simpson – and Yumi Stynes who was dropped from the 3Pm Pickup in August. Arn says this will be Sydney’s first all-female breakfast team.
The breakfast slot had previously been inhabited by Tim ‘Rosso’ Ross and Claire Hooper. As Mumbrella reported last month, Hooper is also leaving the network. Some commentators had suggested there was little natural chemistry between Rosso and Hooper.
Today’s announcement stressed the rapport between its new breakfast duo.

In a stunt for Meat & Livestock Australia, Triple M radio show Merrick and The Highway Patrol has revealed the latest mod-con for driving enthusiasts.
The Carbeque, half car half barbeque, was revealed this afternoon at an outdoor broadcast in Sydney’s Parramatta.

Merrick Watts is Mla’s brand ambassador for steak, having fronted their new campaign.
The ad by Bmf sees Watts campaigning for the 1980s Tourism Australia ad in which comedian Paul Hogan famously said ‘throw another shrimp on the barby’ to be remade without the ‘shrimp’.
The car is a 1973 converted Ford Landau Coupe. The car is designed to resemble that featured in movie classic Mad Max.
The event was also attended by V8 super car drivers Garth Tander, Lee Holdsworth and motorsport veteran Neil Crompton.

Five months after cold calling Meat & Livestock Australia as part of a radio stunt to offer his services to promote red meat, Merrick Watts is the face of a new marketing campaign for steak.
The campaign features Watts resurrecting the celebrated Tourism Australia campaign fronted by Paul Hogan and attempting to eradicate the phrase “Throw another shrimp on the barbie”.
The project came about after Watts – who co-presents the Merrick & The Highway Patrol drivetime show on Triple M – called the Mla when Sam Neill was dropped as the organisation’s red meat spokesman.
July’s phone call:
At the time Mla’s Andrew Cox, group marketing manager for consumer programs at Mla promised to meet with Watts.
This weekend, Mla launched the new campaign. Watts is fronting a petition aimed at persuading Tourism Australia to remake the ad. Since publication on Friday, the video has already had more than 50,000 views.

Merrick: serious about meat
Could radio personality Merrick Watts be the new face of Meat & Livestock Australia?
The Triple M DJ called Mla marketing head Andrew Cox yesterday for an on-air chat, pitching his case to replace Sam Neill – who got the chop as the brand ambassador for red meat.
He even made a mock-up ad to make his case. Here’s the clip…
But Cox, who is meeting with Watts to have a chat about the idea, told Mumbrella via email: “We are not against using Merrick as a spokesman, but what does he know about Wholesome Food?”
“Currently he strikes us as a meat pie kind of guy – nothing wrong with that but he would need to prove he has a repertoire of healthy beef and lamb meals he can share with Australia.”...
