Screen Media Films has closed a deal for North American distribution rights to Ride, the film Helen Hunt wrote, directed and produced, and stars in alongside Brenton Thwaites, Luke Wilson, and David Zayas. Pic is Hunt’s follow-up to her helming debut Then She Found Me. In this comedy, she plays an editor from The New Yorker who follows her son (Thwaites) to La after he drops out of college to surf and find himself, but she ends up being the one thrust into a sea change of self-discovery. She befriends a limo driver (Zayas) and soon rediscovers her sexuality with a younger surf instructor (Wilson) and begins to heal her fractured relationship with her son and herself. Sandbar Pictures, Abandon Features, Big Block Ventures and @TheMovies Entertainment financed and UltraMedia is handling foreign sales.

Luke Wilson, David Zayas, Mike White, Richard Kind, Leonor Varela, Elizabeth Jayne and Brenton Thwaites are set to star alongside Helen Hunt in her second directorial effort "Ride".
Thwaites plays a 20-year old Nyu student who moves from New York to California for the summer. He leaves behind his strong-willed magazine editor mother (Hunt) and when she hears he’s chucking school for surfing, she follows him.
There, he pursues his dream and she pursues him. Along the way she meets a surf teacher (Wilson) who brings her to life in every way. Both mother and son find their own version of love, sex and an unexpected state of grace in a most unlikely place.
The film follows on from her 2007 first effort "Then She Found Me". Lizzie Friedman, Gregg Little, and Moon Blauner will produce. Shooting begins on August 5th in Los Angeles before moving to New York City in October.

Exclusive: Some two years after she first put the film together, Helen Hunt has locked financing and cast for Ride, her directing followup to her 2007 debut Then She Found Me. Hunt, who’s coming off an Oscar-nominated performance in The Sessions, wrote the film, produces and stars as well. David Hasselhoff has joined the cast of "Piranha 3Dd" according to an official press release from The Weinstein Company.
No word on what role the former "Baywatch" star will play, though it does say he will face the terror of the flesh-eating fish at The Big Wet Water Park were most of the film is set.

The final two tributes have been locked. Alexander Ludwig ("Race to Witch Mountain") and Isabelle Fuhrman ("Orphan") have been cast in the pivotal roles of District 2’s Cato and Clove, respectively.
In the novel, the pair prove to be the main obstacles for protagonist Katniss and teammate Peeta during the games, while District 2 is amongst the better fed and most powerful of the districts.

After making her directorial debut on Then She Found Me, Helen Hunt will direct Ride, a romantic comedy she'll also star in later this year. Michael Roiff and his Night & Day Pictures will produce with Hunt, Matthew Carnahan and Moon Blauner. Intandem Films will pre-sell foreign rights at Cannes. Hunt will play the mother of a 20-year-old Nyu student, and when he leaves for a summer in California, this strong-willed magazine-editor mother is alarmed. When he reveals he's abandoning school for the surfing life, she follows him to L.A. There, each finds their own version of love, sex and self discovery. Hunt just starred in Soul Surfer and, as director, just shot an episode of Showtime's Californication. CAA will broker a domestic distribution deal for the film.
