Verizon customers will be offered the ad-supported Netflix and Max tiers in a bundle for $10 a month, starting December 7. The future of ESPN is coming, but viewers shouldn’t expect Disney to do anything precipitate with its sports channels. The company will explore all of its options for creating a streaming version of the full ESPN offering, with no cable or satellite subscriptions required.
That may include partnering with major tech companies who would be sold minority ownership stakes in ESPN. A new report from Sahil Patel of The Information says that mobile network and broadband provider Verizon has already officially spoken with Disney about such a partnership and that Verizon CEO Hans Vestberg has spoken with major league teams and sports leagues about his interest.

Sun Valley, Idaho — The Elon Musk watch is on.
The first full day of Allen & Co.’s exclusive conference and retreat for the wealthy and well-connected concluded Wednesday at the luxe Sun Valley resort. Even among the assembled 1-ers, there was anticipation for the arrival of the maverick leader of Tesla and SpaceX, who is expected to make an appearance at the annual meeting of moguls and C-suite titans.
Following Tuesday’s many arrivals and some solo morning time, during which Verizon chief Hans Vestberg went for a run around the resort in the 6 a.m. hour, the agenda kicked off with an outdoor breakfast held for the business, media and tech moguls and their guests in a shaded area behind the lodge.
After the catered affair, the day was filled with private meetings and well-guarded guest speaker sessions, which usually focus on heady global economic and public policy topics.

Verizon execs Tuesday touted partnerships with A-list streamers, talked up their a slimmed-down media group and defended linear television even as traditional video subscribers continue to erode.
“We’re not going to have a hundred different type of offerings, but you know Discovery+ and Disney+, they are so-called Super A brands we want to work with. We will look for more of these [as we see customers] willing to upgrade and to migrate,” CEO Hans Vestberg said on an investor conference call following the release of fourth-quarter earnings.
The giant telco recently added Discovery+ to a roster of distribution partnerships that also includes Apple and Disney. “As the early cohort of Disney+ customers have come off of the initial free 12-month period, more than two thirds have maintained their subscription either through their Verizon direct billing relationship or by opting in to one of our newest Mix & Match plans with the Disney bundle included,...

Verizon and Disney are expanding their distribution and marketing partnership to add the full Disney+/Hulu/ESPN+ bundle at no charge for subscribers to two wireless plans.
Beginning Thursday, customers who choose the “Play More Unlimited” or “Get More Unlimited” packages will get the bundle for free as part of their monthly cost of $45 or $55 before taxes and fees. Disney charges $13 a month for its three-service bundle. If bought separately, they would be $19.
Two other wireless plans will include six months of Disney+ at no charge, but not the full bundle.
Last October, the companies announced their initial tie-up, which gave 12 free months of Disney+ to all new and existing 4G Lte and 5G unlimited wireless customers as well as FiOS internet households. FiOS pay-tv systems were not part of the previous promotion or the newly expanded one, though wireless customers can stream the Disney apps on smart-TVs and other devices besides their phones.

As wireless giants like AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile continue to push forward with rollouts of 5G technology, the U.S. government is making more wireless spectrum available for the effort.
The White House and the Department of Defense said Monday that 100 megahertz of mid-band spectrum will be made auctioned off for commercial 5G deployment. The most active user of mid-band spectrum is the U.S. military, which puts it to work on radar systems, air-traffic technology and other purposes.
The Federal Communications Commission will administer the auction.
A statement from the White House said the move will “improve every industry and the lives of all Americans.” The auction is planned for December 2021, with companies being able to start using the spectrum in 2022.
The race toward 5G is a global one, with South Korea already in the lead and China leading a host of countries gunning for a leadership position in the rollout.
