When she was 16, she received the Silver Key in the Original Screenplay category of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. While attending Portland State University, she worked on films "Alone" and "Timmy Failure" as a production assistant. She also spent a summer interning at Koerner Camera Systems where she gained a better understanding of various cameras and film equipment. In her final year at Portland State, she had two poems published in her school's Pathos Literary Magazine. After graduating, she worked as a Transportation Coordinator on the Sunriver Auditions of "American Idol".
