"This is your golden parachute, sweetie, don't you see?" XYZ Films has debuted an official trailer for Diary of a Spy, described as a "gripping romantic spy thriller" based on a true story. This one is skipping theaters and opening on VOD / digital starting in July this summer. That latest from the celebrated indie writer / director Adam Christian Clark, Diary of a Spy is a uniquely intimate and gripping espionage thriller that's inspired by true, but confidential, events. A washed-up intelligence officer is given the chance for one last mission, recruiting an asset connected to the Saudi Royal Family. But soon realizes she must decide between finishing her mission or finding a way to save herself. Starring Tamara Taylor as Anna, the disgraced spy, and Reece Noi as Camden, her reclusive mark. Also starring Fred Melamed, Madeline Zima, Susan Sullivan, and Jon Lindstrom, with Paulina Leija. This looks quite intriguing.

Adam Christian Clark in Newly Single
The story of a small time film producer who can't understand why his girlfriend has left him or why other women don't want to date him, Newly Single explores toxic masculinity from the inside out. It was due to get a special release on Prime for Valentine's Day but has just been classed as 'adult content' - a rare case of UK censors being more offended than their Us counterparts by material dealing with sexuality - so this has been cancelled. UK residents will now have to go to rather more trouble to access it, and those who stumble across it whilst looking for pornography are likely to be disappointed by its focus on drama.
A few days ago, writer/director Adam Christian Clark, who also plays the role of its troubled and troubling protagonist, took the time to explain how the film came together.

Writer-director Adam Christian Clark follows up his well-received first feature, Caroline and Jackie, with meta-dark-comedy Newly Single. Clark himself plays the bitter and broken protagonist in a film that only came into being after the director saw his original bigger-budget follow-up movie fall through, leaving him jobless, on the brink of financial collapse and engulfed in drinking and empty dating. Out of this unfortunate situation came Newly Single and the trailer promises a film that takes an acerbic look into the modern world of dating. Check out the new trailer ahead of its Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival Premiere. Family gatherings can be so excruciating that even the tiniest comment will send you running for the door. Most of us can never leave, though; they're family. That's exactly the cringing warmth you feel watching Adam Christian Clark's first feature, Caroline and Jackie, which is not about the Kennedys, but the leads here are just as wild. Clark lures you into the chaos through beautiful visuals like the sparkly evening lights of an L.A. dinner party, and the night's principal characters, two attractive brunette sisters. One is a control freak who could be suffering from an eating disorder and alcoholism, and the other is immature, nosy, and promiscuous. Both irritate. That's the gist and charm of this family's dynamic, which is so real that at times it's unbearable. But as much ...

Awkward family tension gets a sublimely demented makeover in Adam Christian Clark’s Caroline and Jackie, a brooding psycho-drama that hits the ground running when it comes to uncomfortable sibling interactions. While "Iron Man 3" will be storming theaters nationwide this weekend, if you want to avoid the crowds, long lines and give your brain something besides VFX explosions and eardrum rattling sound, the low key indie "Caroline & Jackie" might fit the bill. The feature directorial debut of Adam Christian Clark, the story centers on Caroline (played by "Shameless" star Marguerite Moreau), who is on a celebratory birthday trip and decides visits her sister, Jackie (Tulloch) and her boyfriend (Giuntoli). But what starts out as a fun evening with close friends, quickly goes awry. As you'll see in this exclusive clip, Caroline has more than one opinion that she's not afraid to share. Bitsie Tulloch (“Grimm”), David Giuntoli (“Grimm”), Valerie Azlynn, David Fuit, and Jason Gray-Stanford all round out the cast in the film that premiered last year at the Tribeca Film Festival. "Caroline And Jackie" opens on May 3rd in limited release and will.

Adam Christian Clark's moody drama Caroline and Jackie found plenty of fans when it premiered at Tribeca one year ago. Written by Acc and produced by Adam Hendricks, the white-people-drinking-wine-dinner-party indie with a twist was picked up by Phase 4 Films who have just released this trailer. Marguerite Moreau and Bitsie Tulloch star as sisters who get together for a birthday where some dark secrets are revealed. On a celebratory birthday trip, Caroline visits her sister, Jackie and her boyfriend. What starts out as a fun evening with close friends quickly goes askew. Caroline and the group attempt to support Jackie for an apparent illness - though it's unclear who really needs the most help. Check out the trailer below and look for the film...

Why Watch? With the neon burnt streets of China as its playground, this short from Adam Christian Clark takes two bankers into the partying heart of darkness. The elder statesman suggests the pair celebrate their swiping of $15m with a night out on the town; the first-timer goes reluctantly with a rocks glass in hand. This short is a rare case of instant atmosphere. It wastes no time getting to the gist, turning a jumble of numbers in a bank merging into a magic act that doesn’t need to be revealed. Each character is introduced with raw ceremony, painting them quickly and putting them into the maze of the plot. In other words, it’s tight. It’s also shot with a beautifully wandering eye and brought to life by a steady cast. What will it cost you? Only 13 minutes. Skip work. Watch more short films.

First and foremost, Adam Christian Clark wants you to forget you're actually watching a movie when you see his family drama "Caroline and Jackie." Clark's mission with his film was to make it as naturalistic as possible (key influences on the film were Cassavetes and Altman) after feeling like he began his film career with too much emphasis on style over substance. In Clark's words he is "reinventing" his method of filmmaking with the hope that Tribeca audiences "for even just a brief moment, forgot they were watching a movie and just thought they were watching their own family interact." What's it about?: ""Caroline and Jackie" for me was an exploration of the strength and brevity of the bond between sisters. I wanted to further understand why we feel the freedom and compulsion to abuse, and to love our birth family with the same level of hatred and charity with which we judge ourselves.

Tribeca: Congratulations on your first feature, Caroline and Jackie. It has so many twists and turns - well done! So how would you describe the film in your own words? Adam Christian Clark: Caroline and Jackie follows the convention of an American indie drama, and while there certainly are thriller aspects to it, genre-wise I'd call it a character-based drama. It's family-based, but it's certainly not a family drama. [laughs] Tribeca: As the writer/director, what inspired you to tell this story? And the names are certainly quite evocative of the Kennedys: Caroline and Jackie... Adam Christian Clark: In the script, the last name the two sisters share is "Wright." I was trying to make a film about women who grew up with the pressure of always trying to be on point - there's an extreme pressure that they obviously came out of, but are still living with in their life.

2012 Tribeca Film Festival announced the World Narrative and Documentary Competition film selections
HollywoodNews.com: The 2012 Tribeca Film Festival (Tff), presented by American Express®, today announced the World Narrative and Documentary Competition film selections, along with selections for the out-of-competition Viewpoints section—the program established last year that highlights personal stories in international and independent cinema. James Franco’s behind-the-scenes General Hospital feature, Francophrenia, will have its North American premiere in the Viewpoints section – the program established last year that highlights more personal stories. “He’s kind of constructed this really interesting and well-crafted film about that experience that plays with the boundaries of documentary,” says Genna Terranova, Tribeca’s director of programming. “It’s a bit tongue in cheek, as James himself can be. He’s a bit enigmatic and the film is as well.

With The Five-Year Engagement set as the opening title for the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival, they’ve announced more of the line-up today with World Narrative & Documentary Features as the Viewpoint titles. We’ve got the next film from The Exploding Girl director Bradley Rust Gray, Jack and Diane (as well as a first look about featuring Juno Temple, thanks to Styd).
There is a new Harmony Korine short as well Kate Bosworth‘s While We Were Here and The Girl, starring Abbie Cornish. James Franco also has his latest film, Francophrenia, featuring footage from his performance on General Hospital. Nothing sticks out too greatly yet, but if I see something as interesting as Beyond the Black Rainbow or Magic Valley like last year, I’ll be a happy man. SXSW kicks off later this week, but once your done slurping the BBQ sauce off your fingers, pack your backs and head north to Manhattan as the Tribeca Film Festival is gearing up to unspool in April. To whet cinephile appetites, organizers have dropped the lineup for the World Narrative Feature Competition, World Documentary Feature Competition and Viewpoints lineups and there are plenty of titles to take note of.
Among the narratives, the anticipated "Jack And Diane" from Bradley Rust Gray will make its world premiere. Starring Juno Temple and Riley Keough, the film takes a teenage lesbian love tale and twists the formula, with one of them revealing she's a werewolf. Add to that a cast rounded out by Dane DeHaan, Jena Malone and pop star Kylie Minogue (as a tattooed lesbian, of course) and you can see why this will be one of the hottest tickets at the fest.

Los Angeles may be considered the film capital of the world, but what is “film” these days anyway? A new L.A-based festival has just popped up that addresses and celebrates all of the unique forms that visual storytelling can take in our new media world.
The inaugural New Media Film Festival will run the course of one weekend, June 11-13, at the Downtown Independent theater and show a mix of Internet-based short films, “webisodes,” documentaries that deal with the way media influences and is influenced by real world affairs and feature films in which new media figures as a major story element.
While the festival is strictly concerned with new media, I do want to note that there is a slight “underground” connection. While the fest was founded by Susan Johnston, the event’s Artistic Director is David Kleiler, who founded the Boston Underground Film Festival way back in 1998. Plus,...
