He is expected to play a man who has been accused of murdering his wife. Molina previously starred as Ricardo Morales in Law & Order: La, which was cancelled by NBC earlier this year. The murder trial's first week ended with riveting details of the defendant's double life. With all sides conceding Anthony was a liar, her fate now hangs on which fib the jury buys. By Diane Dimond

Those Kardashians are spreading their empire deeper and deeper into scripted fare. After Kourtney appeared on a daytime soap, it was little-big sister Khloe Kardashian's turn on the newly revamped 'Law & Order: La' (Mon., 10Pm Et on NBC).
Playing a successful actress version of herself -- see, it's a fictional role! -- Khloe was questioned by detectives Ricardo Morales and Tj Jaruszalski. They talked to her about a publicist who'd been murdered, and Khloe did have beef with the woman.
The Publicist put Khloe in a sub-par designer's dress for the Golden Globes, supposedly on a kickback from said designer.

Khloé Kardashian is about to have a run-in with the criminal justice system -- on 'Law & Order: La,' of course.
The star of 'Keeping Up With the Kardashians' and 'Khloé & Lamar' comes under police scrutiny after her stylist is murdered on this week's episode (Mon., April 25, 10Pm Et on NBC).
Detectives Ricardo Morales (Alfred Molina) and T.J. Jaruszalski (Corey Stoll) call on Kardashian (the TV version, at least) to find out just what happened during her last meeting with the doomed stylist.
"I'm kind of a suspect because my stylist and I got into a fight before she died," Kardashian told AOL TV in an exclusive interview. "They come to my set, they're kind of interrogating me, and I just give them my answers."

In last week's two-part 'Law & Order: Los Angeles' -- the first new episode since the show went on a retooling hiatus Dec. 1 -- the reset button was officially hit for the freshman series.
For fans of the show (which has seen its fair share of drama, even though it's only aired 10 episodes to date) the revamp brings us something old, something new and something borrowed, hoping this marriage between the franchise and the City of Angels lasts a good long time.
And of course, there's also something blue with Alfred Molina's character Ricardo Morales leaving the Da's office in the aftermath of the shooting death of Det. Rex Winters (Skeet Ulrich) to come back to the beat as a detective.

Law & Order: La lost a cast member last night and while I won’t tell you who it was (you can read the interview below for that spoiler), I can say it was a major character.
Head-honcho Dick Wolf and Alfred Molina had a conference call the other day to discuss where the freshman series is heading. They also talked Molina’s character, the decision to kill off that certain lead character and how Wolf broke the news to them. I can’t imagine getting that call!
Check it out!
Mr. Wolf, when the season started you had talked about the way of getting both Alfred Molina and Terrence Howard on the show was to use them only every other week. Now that that’s going to no longer be the case, can you just talk about logistically how things are working out?

In the city of Los Angeles, the people are represented by two separate yet equally important versions of Alfred Molina. Well, sort of. In the revamped Law & Order: La that debuted last night, Molina’s character, Ricardo Morales, made a decision that would have been shocking if it hadn’t been so widely reported beforehand: Disgusted by the bureaucracy of the District Attorney’s office, he quit working as a lawyer to become a detective. That wasn’t the only development that rocked Los Angeles’s homicide division — Corey Stoll also shaved off his mustache. And, oh yeah — Spoiler Alert: Rex Winters,...

Law & Order: Los Angeles opened in its new Monday night slot with a bang.
NBC had advertised heavily that this episode would bring about the demise of one of the shows detectives. News that Detective Rex Winters was the ill-fated cast member circled the internet far before air time.
This two-hour season premiere began with “Zuma Canyon,” which, like many Law & Order episodes, grounds itself in a national hot topic, the Mexican-American Border Drug Wars. Detectives Winters and Jaruszalski respond to the opening drama involves a crashed quinceañera with automatic gun fire pouring from four masked assailants.
The party’s host, Mr. Alcazar, was the intended target of the shoot, and although his wife and child escape the massacre eight others are killed including three children. There is an early attempt to humanize Winters through his family as he checks upon his sleeping children.

Law & Order: La returns tonight after a long break and a major cast overhaul. Skeet Ulrich is out. Alana De La Garza is in. And Alfred Molina and Terrence Howard no longer alternate weeks. Instead Terrence remains a Da upholding the "law" while Alfred is now a detective on the "order" side. Alana, who starred in the original Law & Order series, which was just canceled after 20 years on the air, reprises her role as Connie Rubirosa in the La version. In a recent conference call interview we spoke with Alfred and Alana, along with series' creator Dick Wolf, about the new dimensions to their roles.

Chicago – The revolving door of Dick Wolf’s legendary creation keeps on spinning. Cast members have come and gone from the “Law & Order” franchise for years, but this time the door only goes in one direction as Skeet Ulrich’s Detective is being killed off with no chance to return. So, is it an upgrade, downgrade, or more of the same? Consider version 2.0 of “Law & Order: Los Angeles” a step in the right direction with some room left for improvement.
TV Rating: 3.0/5.0
To kick off the new version of “Law & Order: Los Angeles,” the writers and producers present a two-part episode (“Zuma Canyon” and “Silver Lake”) featuring multiple murders, miscarriages of justice, rape, perversion, and the death of more than one child. The “Law & Order” series has never shied away from the seedy underbelly of humanity but you may need a shower after “L&O: La,” which seems to feature heartbreaking plot twists every week.

When NBC’s Law & Order: LA resumes its freshman run Monday at 9/8c, the look and feel will be so different, “I’d almost call it Law & Order: LA 2.0,” says franchise boss Dick Wolf. Monday's episode of "Law & Order: Los Angeles" will be its first in several months, and the first to air after the show underwent some pretty serious retooling. It will also be, as a result of that retooling, the last one for Skeet Ulrich.
"L&O" creator Dick Wolf says any blame for Ulrich's departure should fall at his feet. "It was a very, very painful call, and it was not something in the abstract that Skeet deserved," Wolf said Wednesday (April 6) in a chat with reporters. "I'm sure this is not what he wants to hear, [but] I would unhesitatingly use him again as an actor in something that I think called on his strengths better than this [show] did.
"I remain a fan. ... He's one of the nicest people I've ever worked with, and it's not something I enjoy or hope to have to do ever again. But it's my fault; it's not his fault.

When 'Law & Order: Los Angeles' wasn't getting the ratings that NBC expects from a member of the 'L&O' franchise, the network didn't throw in the towel. In fact, it asked 'L&O' impresario Dick Wolf and his producers to go back and retool the show for the second half of its first season.
Audiences will see the result of that retooling starting Monday, April 11, at 9Pm Et. Among the biggest changes is that Alfred Molina's character, Deputy D.A. Ricardo Morales, will return to the Lapd as a detective. The backstory of how that happens, including what happens to who he's replacing, Det. Rex Winters (Skeet Ulrich), will be sorted out during the first few episodes of the show's return.
I spoke to Molina last month about his thoughts on the switch, which will involve his working on every episode -- as a D.

EW has learned that NBC’s revamped series Law & Order: Los Angeles will shoot an episode that’s inspired by the shocking murder of beloved Hollywood publicist Ronni Chasen, who was shot as she drove through Beverly Hills after the Burlesque premiere in November. The peacock network has announced that they're bringing back Law & Order: Los Angeles after a 19 week hiatus. As you may recall, the new series wasn't performing very well in the ratings and averaged just a 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 8.24 million viewers. As a result, executive producer Dick Wolf and NBC decided to do some retooling.
Cast members Skeet Ulrich, Regina Hall, and Megan Boone are now gone and Alfred Molina's character, Da Ricardo Morales, is now a detective who works alongside Tj Jaruszalski (Corey Stoll). Terrence Howard remains as Dda Jonah Dekker. In addition, Alana De La Garza will reprise her role as Ada Connie Rubirosa from the original Law & Order which was cancelled last May.

Lola — which premiered to disappointing ratings and reviews — has undergone a slew of cast changes since getting pulled off the air earlier this year. (I’m told new NBC president Robert Greenblatt was very hands-on during the revamp.) When the dust settled,...

Pack your sunblock, Connie Rubirosa, because you’re heading to Los Angeles.
Law & Order alumna Alana De La Garza has joined the cast of NBC’s Law & Order: LA, which is currently undergoing a revamp.
De La Garza will play her same L&O Ada, who in L.A. will work with Terrence Howard’s Dda Jonah Dekker.

Law & Order: Los Angeles is adding a touch of Law & Order. Alana De La Garza, who co-starred on the mothership series, will join the spinoff, reprising her character as A.D.A. Connie Rubirosa. On the show, from Wolf Films and Ums, Rubirosa will work with D.D.A. Jonah Dekker (Terrence Howard). This completes the creative and casting overhaul of Lola, which included the shift of Alfred Molina's Ricardo Morales from a prosecutor to a detective partnered with Tj Jaruszalski (Corey Stoll) and the departure of Skeet Ulrich, Regina Hall and Megan Boone. There is no return date set for the show yet as NBC brass is giving the producers more time to work on the revamp. Sdb Partners-repped De La Garza was the most recent Ada on Law & Order. She joined at the beginning of Season 17 and was on the show for 4 seasons, until the veteran procedural's end in May.

NBC put the kibosh on a plan to move Parenthood to Mondays and will keep it on Tuesdays at 10 to give Law & Order: Los Angeles more time to reboot itself now that three of the original stars are leaving the freshman drama. New episodes of Parenthood will now air on Tuesdays for the remainder of the season while Lola will return on a day to be determined.

Law & Order: Los Angeles is currently on winter hiatus, but there are some very big changes in store for the show. The series debuted in the Fall of 2010 on NBC to approximately 10 million viewers and has fluctuated in the ratings. It's fluctuated enough to cause a major overhaul in the second half of the first season.
According to TV Squad, Lola creator Dick Wolf has revealed that Skeet Ulrich, Regina Hall and Megan Boone will all be leaving the show. This is curious since Ulrich is one of the main stars of the show and one of the main detectives investigating cases. Ulrich is set to depart the show in episode 14, which should air in March.
With three stars set to leave, Wolf plans to elevate the roles of Alfred Molina and Terrence Howard. Molina currently plays D.D.A. Ricardo Morales, but he'll return to his previous job as...

The "Law & Order" franchise has a long history of proving it can survive a change in leads. But the departure of Skeet Ulrich and two actresses so early in the first season of "Law & Order: Los Angeles" may test how much recasting a show can take so soon. Ulrich, who plays a detective on the show, will depart to make room for Alfred Molina's character, Deputy District Attorney Ricardo Morales, to return to the police force. It will be revealed that Morales was a detective before he became a...

Poor Skeet Ulrich. Already the butt of many a “failed movie career” joke, the actor will now have to deal with “failed TV career” jokes. Skeet just got fired from Law & Order La, not even getting to finish the first season. And who will replace him as cueball Corey Stoll’s partner in crime detection? Alfred Molina! No offense to Skeet, but that’s undoubtedly a step up the acting evolutionary scale. But wait…isn’t Molina already on the cast as an Assistant District Attorney? Seems the plan is for Molina’s Ricardo Morales to reveal that he was a cop for 15 years…and apparently he’d like his old job back! This will allow fellow Ada Terrence Howard to appear in more episodes. The show’s legal side will also be losing Regina Hall and Megan Boone—whether this bloodletting will actually improve the show’s standing, we...

That’s right folks, Mr Baby Wipes himself (remember that deathless quote by him and how he likes his women???) Terrance Howard, he of the whimpering cry baby voice, will now take over full time on the revamped NBC L& O spin-off series Law & Order: Los Angeles.
Following my recent post about upcoming cast departures on the show including Regina Hall, in the new version of the show which will begin in February Alfred Molina, who plays D.D.A Ricardo Morales, will be moved over to a new role on the show. It will be revealed that his character was a Lapd detective for 15 years and frustrated as a prosecutor decided to return to the police force partnered with Tj Jaruszalski (Corey Stoll).
As a result Howard, whose D.D.A. character, alternated on separate episodes with Molina’s Morales, will now be the sole D.D.A. on the show.

Who’s going to replace Skeet Ulrich’s detective on NBC’s Law & Order: Los Angeles?
Alfred Molina — even though he’s already on the show playing a district attorney.
Here’s how that’s going to work:
Molina will continue to play Ricardo Morales, but it will be revealed that his character was on the Los Angeles Police Department for 15 years, having earned the detective rank. His frustrations as a prosecutor reach a tipping point and he decides to return to the police force.
Terrence Howard, whose character Jonah Dekker alternated with Molina’s Morales, will now be in every episode.

NBC's Law & Order: Los Angeles is being revamped, and, in its new incarnation, it will closely resemble creator Dick Wolf's original vision for the spinoff (as well as the setup of the mothership Law & Order series). There will be 2 cops, one D.D.A. and one Ada. As we first reported, Skeet Ulrich, who plays one of the cops on the show, Detective Rex Winters, will be leaving, with his last appearance slated for Episode 14. His place will be taken by Alfred Molina, who plays D.D.A Ricardo Morales. "Law & Order" moved to the West Coast for its latest incarnation, "Law & Order: Los Angeles." For its first foray in Hollywood, the show scored some A-list talent for its cast, including Oscar-nominee Terrence Howard.
Howard makes his debut as Deputy District Attorney Jonah "Joe" Dekker on Wednesday. He shares Dda duties on the show with "An Education" star Alfred Molina, playing Attorney Ricardo Morales.
While the shared role allows Howard to spit his time in between his first television series stint and film, like any role Howard does, he prepared like a real-life attorney would getting ready for his first big courtroom case.
"The first thing that I did is spend time at the Los Angeles District Attorney's office," Terrence Howard told Ahn. "We spent time in the judge's chambers. They gave us that opportunity, walked us through the courtroom. Then we mock played out some things."...

If you read the title "Law & Order: Los Angeles," you know pretty well what to expect from the TV show, right?
And you'd be right, because while the original "Law & Order" is no more and the new show -- which debuts at 10 p.m. Et Wednesday -- is set on the opposite coast, it's still part of the "Law & Order" brand, which means the cops are smart, the prosecutors dogged and the perps doomed. That, and you'll hear the "chung-chung" sound several times per episode.
On all those counts, "L&O: La" delivers. There's a baseline of quality -- well-produced, plot-driven, generally smartly cast and acted -- to all the "L&O" shows, and it's evident here as well. Starting from there, we're going to look at the individual elements in the new show and how well they measure up to the standard set by 40-plus previous seasons of the various "Law & Orders.

Law & Order may be gone after 20 seasons and 456 episodes, but it certainly didn’t sound the death knell for the long-running franchise: It paved the way for Law & Order: Los Angeles, a veritable reboot of the courtroom series that will premiere this Wednesday on NBC. EW was invited to check out the set in downtown Los Angeles and learn about the show.
The move to Los Angeles was crucial, says Executive Producer Christopher Misiano, who wants to depict the entire city beyond Hollywood and Beverly Hills. Each episode will be named for and set in various neighborhoods of L.A.

The 2010 Oscar winner for Best Foreign Language film, Juan Jose Campanella’s “Secret” illustrates how the brutal rape and murder of one young woman impacts a handful of disconnected strangers over one year, then five years, then a decade, and then several decades. Her death is a stone dropped into a placid lake. Waves ripple out, and no matter where you are parked, eventually they are going to rock your boat.
Campanella tells two interlocking stories, which feature the same characters but are separated by generations. One focuses on the early days of the investigation into Liliana Coloto’s (Carla Quevedo) murder. The second lays out a futile lack of progress that has occurred decades later. To their credit, the same actors play both young and old convincingly.

The dreamily pixilated and ever so slightly slow-moed opening of The Secret in Their Eyes stutters with its fits and stops as Benjamin attempts to find his starting point and his voice for said story. Once Benjamin finds his authorial voice, the visuals promptly shed their artsyness and the flashbacks are differentiated from the present only by way of...

It's little wonder that the stunning crime thriller The Secret in Their Eyes (El secreto de sus ojos) won the 2010 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. The Argentine import, opening Friday at the Arbor, is all at once lyrical, brutal, poignant and provocative, an intimate and personal journey with much broader implications about the nature of justice.
Equal parts police procedural, psychological thriller and love story, The Secret in Their Eyes is the story of recently retired criminal investigator Benjamín Esposito (Ricardo Darín), who in 1999 decides to write a novel based on a 25-year-old rape and murder case that still haunts him. The story is told largely in flashbacks to 1974, following Esposito and his colleagues as they investigate the crime.
