I’m still mightily impressed that, 24 issues in, this book not only continues to please long term and casual fan alike, but that it also can still throw surprises at us. Virtually every issue also brings a payoff for a long term simmering subplot, some that I’ve even forgotten, and that’s some great writing right there. The book has always been as much about the personal interactions as it has been about the widescreen space battles, and the balance has always been just right. I would imagine not too many mainstream comics readers thought to pick this book up, outside of already established Robotech fans, which is a shame, as it deserves more praise than it receives. Still, those of us who do read it can keep it as our little secret.

Producers Andre Jacquemetton ("Mad Men") and David Heyman ("Gravity") continue developing DC Comics' futuristic, 72-issue Vertigo title "Dmz" (2005) as a TV series:
"Dmz" was created and co-illustrated by Brian Wood and Riccardo Burchiell.
"Dmz" is set in the near future, where a second American civil war has turned the island of Manhattan into a 'Demilitarized Zone', caught between the forces of the Us and the secessionist 'Free States of America'.
The 'Free States' movement began with an uprising of secessionist groups that formed a separate government in Montana before spreading across the country.
The 'Free Armies' and Us military first met in combat at Allentown, Pennsylvania where the Free Armies won, then marched into New York.
"...fledgling journalist 'Matty Roth' holds the narrative together as we learn the stories and perspectives of many who live in the shattered city. Behind them all is the conflict between the Fsa, USA,...

For this final week of home media releases in January, I hope everyone has prepared their wallets, because we have a lot to get excited about, especially if you’re a cult film fan.
Vinegar Syndrome is doing the dark lord’s work this Tuesday, as they are putting out four different titles, including Cutting Class, Splatter University, There’s Nothing Out There, and Uninvited. Severin is celebrating giallo filmmaking with their releases of All the Colors of Giallo and All the Colors of the Dark, Scream Factory is showing some love to Screamers, and if you missed it in theaters, you can also finally catch up with Luca Guadagnino’s Suspiria on Blu-ray this week as well.
Other notable releases for January 29th include a new edition of Willow, Save Yourself, and Dead Silence (1989).

Hey, remember Minx?
DC Comics launched that imprint in 2007 to great fanfare, with a raft of interesting creators (many from outside the comic-shop) world and a focus on fiction for teen girls that was unusual for comics of the modern era. It flopped in barely a year, though: that’s why you might not remember it.
Other companies, before and since, have published plenty of very successful books for this audience — I need only mention the name Raina Telgemeier. But DC didn’t manage to do it: maybe because they were too locked into their usual distribution channels, maybe because “DC Comics” turned off those girls, maybe because the stars just weren’t right. But it did flop.
I’ve covered most of the Minx books randomly here — Re-Gifters and Clubbing, The Plain Janes and Good as Lily, Janes sequel Janes in Love , Kimmie66 , Water Baby , Confessions of a Blabbermouth...
