While filming the new Amazon crime thriller Play Dirty in Sydney, Australia, Mark Wahlberg is experiencing the glitz and glam of a big-budget film. However, despite the luxury of his Australian stay, he finds himself yearning for the comfort of his loved ones back home.

It’s no wonder that giant studios in the film industry in modern times stick with a star that is guaranteed to give them the most return on their investment in a film project, and again, it’s no wonder why Mark Wahlberg is the top choice for many to be a part of a movie they create. Having one of the cleanest track records when it comes to commercial success in the business, his resume speaks volumes to these production houses.

With the level of success that Sony’s video game adaptation of Uncharted achieved featuring the star as well as actor Tom Holland, it’s no wonder that a second film in the series was always on the table. And now, Wahlberg is tasked with growing a mustache, something that he cannot naturally accomplish, as the sequel of the 2022 film gets an update.

Mark Wahlberg has some good news for Uncharted fans.
Wahlberg starred alongside Tom Holland (Nathan Drake) as Victor Sullivan, also known as Sully. The two are as thick as thieves - most times - both originally coming from the incredibly successful and beloved Uncharted gaming franchise from PlayStation.
While a proper sequel to the 2022 movie hasn't been confirmed, producer Charles Roven did say this past summer that the studio was "definitely looking to make another" film in the franchise, which isn't a surprise considering how Uncharted grossed $400 million worldwide on a reported $120 million budget.

In the world of movies and TV shows, there are countless adaptations that have been made from popular novels and biographical works. But these forms of entertainment have also been inspired by and adapted from some of the biggest video games, which don't get nearly as much attention as they should. In 2023, HBO's acclaimed series "The Last of Us," based on the Sony action-adventure game franchise of the same name, broke viewership records and became the most-watched show in the history of the streaming platform in Europe and Latin America, per the Associated Press.
Along with television series, video-game-to-movie adaptations have also grown in popularity among audiences, with the star-studded "The Super Mario Bros." movie, adapted from the beloved game franchise by Nintendo, being the second-highest grossing film of 2023 so far, as reported by Insider. The film, which features voice acting from stars like Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Jack Black,...

Video game adaptations have become more prominent in recent years, though many of these films and series haven't necessarily broken what's known as the "video game movie curse." While some have been financially successful, many adaptations have not been received favorably by critics. Ruben Fleischer's "Uncharted," for example, did not falter at the box office, but was critically panned. As someone who's deeply into the "Uncharted" series of games, I believe the film was sorely missing the hilarious and heartfelt chemistry between the two main protagonists, Nathan Drake and Victor Sullivan. Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg brought the characters to life, but their dynamic and relationship evolution felt far from genuine.
Now along comes "The Last of Us," an HBO adaptation of another Naughty Dog video game that relies even more heavily on the dynamic between its two main characters, Joel and Ellie, portrayed by Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson in the video games.

Tom Holland has proven a charming actor, capable of poignancy, humor, and super-heroic action. Stretching beyond his work as Spider-Man, he detoured into an adaptation of the Uncharted video game, coming off more as a cross between Indiana Jones and James Bond than an original character, which is not at all his fault. He is an appealing performer and you want to root for him to succeed.

"Uncharted" has finally arrived in theaters, and fans are already pointing out the major differences between the film and the video-game series it's based on. Starring Tom Holland as Nate Drake and Mark Wahlberg as Victor Sullivan, the movie is filled with action, adventure, and, of course, a treasure hunt.
Considering there are nine Uncharted games in existence, it only makes sense that this movie had to cut some things out and change around a few plot points. While there are a number of differences between the games and the movie, these are the biggest ones you should know.
Nate Drake Is Much Younger in the Movie
In the movie, Nate's character is roughly 25 years old, which is way younger than the Nate in the Uncharted games. Because there are multiple games in the series that take place over several years, the video-game character is considerably older than the movie version.

I try to go into every movie with open eyes and an open mind, but I confess that this Buddhist goal can be seriously tested by the prospect of sitting through a video-game movie. Sorry, but I’ve been burned too often — by “Super Mario Bros.”, by “Street Fighter” and “Mortal Kombat” and their sequels, by the 637 “Resident Evil” films, by the operatic death-plunge bombast of “Assassins’ Creed,” which looked like it was adapted from the 100 greatest prog-rock album covers. Are there good video-game movies? I enjoyed the 2018 reboot of “Tomb Raider.” The audiences for these films, who tend to be steeped in the games, would say that any number of them are good. But for those like me, who are looking at the movies as movies rather than live-action adjuncts, there can be a sludgy sameness to them: the kinetic fight-club visuals, the skeletal scripts, the “world-building” that starts...

For close to 30 years, feature film adaptations of popular video games have been battling against the stigma that they’re part of a cursed genre. The overwhelming majority of them have suffered from either critical or commercial disappointment, and in many cases both. It requires a delicate balancing act, with the movies needing to appeal to the core fanbase despite stripping away the level of control that made the games popular in the first place, while still being enjoyable for casual audiences who may have never picked up a controller in their life.
Thankfully, there’s been a minor resurgence of sorts over the last few years, which came crashing back down when Paul W.S. Anderson’s Monster Hunter bombed at the box office even by current standards, while managing to offend the whole of China. And with Warner Bros.’ Mortal Kombat reboot now getting the benefit of a simultaneous HBO Max release,...

You can usually tell based on nothing more than a synopsis what kind of Mark Wahlberg you’re going to get, such is the actor’s reliance on the two very different approaches to his career. There’s the underrated comedic star and unappreciated dramatic talent that’s done great work over the last two decades in projects as diverse as Boogie Nights, Three Kings, The Departed and The Fighter, while there’s also the action hero seen in such forgettable B-movies as Contraband, Shooter, Max Payne and his regular collaborations with Peter Berg.
The 49 year-old’s upcoming schedule illustrates this point perfectly. His next effort is low budget drama Joe Bell, which hails from rising directorial star Reinaldo Marcus Green, who won the Sundance Film Festival’s Special Jury Award for Outstanding First Feature thanks to his acclaimed debut Monsters and Men.

Sony’s Uncharted is gearing up to be the most exciting video game adaptation around the corner, though some fans remain skeptical of the film’s casting choices, particularly the two leads: Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, as Nathan Drake and Victor Sullivan, respectively.
If anything, the first glimpse at the main protagonist divided folks even further. While the Spider-Man actor looks the part in costume and makeup, he doesn’t seem to come off as the Nathan Drake that people have come to know and love in the video game series over the past decade. For one thing, he has to be way older. And for another, most fans recognize the character as someone with an unparalleled level of charisma and complacency, something that Holland hasn’t shown he can pull off so far.

It’s been a long and winding road for Sony’s upcoming adaptation of Uncharted. The pic, which is based on the acclaimed video game series of the same name, has been in the works for well over a decade now, cycling through numerous writers, directors and stars. Back in March, though, production finally got underway with Ruben Fleischer calling the shots from behind the camera.
As far as plot details go, we know that Uncharted will act as a prequel to the acclaimed PlayStation games, showing us the origins of treasure hunter Nathan Drake (Tom Holland) and his mentor Victor Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg). It may be a while yet before we get to see any footage from the pic, especially with Covid-19 no doubt causing the production to move slower than it normally would, but Holland has now taken to Instagram to whet our appetites with the first official look at himself as Drake,...

Before we see him return as Peter Parker, though, the actor will star in two big budget movies next year, both of which have faced some pretty major issues on their way to the silver screen. First up is $100 million YA adaptation Chaos Walking, which is set to hit theaters in January.
Shooting initially wrapped in November 2017, before extensive reshoots were ordered that saw original director Doug Liman replaced by Fede Alvarez. As a result, the release date has been pushed back by almost two years after having first been scheduled for March 2019, which isn’t...

It’s been a long and winding road for the upcoming film adaptation of Uncharted. The project, which is based on the video game franchise of the same name, has been in development on and off since way back in 2008. But though the movie has undergone quite a lot of tribulation in the past twelve years, including various rewrites and the loss of six directors, principal photography finally got underway in March of 2020 under the helm of its seventh director, Ruben Fleischer.
Uncharted will serve as a prequel to the acclaimed PlayStation video game series, revealing the origins of the fortune hunter Nathan Drake (Tom Holland) and his mentor Victor Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg). Not much is known about the story’s specifics at this time, but it should be interesting to see what ways it leans into or diverges from the established lore that so many fans have come to love.

Video game adaptations have struggled to escape the stigma that they’re a cursed form of filmmaking, but recent signs are definitely pointing to a shift in the right direction. Not only have five of the six highest-grossing video game movies of all-time been released in the last four years, but the most recent two are the only ones to ever land a Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with Detective Pikachu and Sonic the Hedgehog scoring 68% and 62%, respectively.
Paul W.S. Anderson’s Monster Hunter seems unlikely to continue the resurgence though, which places all of the pressure on next summer’s Uncharted. Despite having been stuck in development hell for over a decade and seen countless writers, actors and directors come and go in the process, the movie is finally underway with Zombieland‘s Ruben Fleischer behind the camera, Tom Holland starring as Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg lending support as Victor Sullivan.

Sony’s Uncharted is back on track. Production was shut down due to Coronavirus earlier this year, though they’re back on set now and to mark the occasion, star Tom Holland has shared a picture (seen below) of his chair, which reads ‘Nate.’ This is what hero Nathan Drake is called by his friends and is proof that this long in development video game adaptation is actually going to happen.
Seeing something concrete from Uncharted is welcome, as the film has been in various stages of development hell since its announcement in 2008. Over that time, the following have been officially announced as director: *deep breath* David O. Russell, Neil Burger, Seth Gordon, Shawn Levy, Dan Trachtenberg, Travis Knight and now, hopefully finally, Zombieland and Venom‘s Ruben Fleischer. As a measure of how much time has passed since they began planning Uncharted, Mark Wahlberg was once cast as go-getting adventurer Nathan Drake.
