- A former colonel in the US Army, she spent much of her career researching HIV and working around the globe combating the pandemics of HIV, TB and malaria.
- Served in the public health sector of the US government for over 40 years, working for several presidential administrations during that period. She has held leadership positions at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Institute of Research, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the State Department as Ambassador-at-Large and US Global AIDS Coordinator as part of the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). She resides in Washington, DC.
