Mumbai, March 16 (Ians) The Gujarat Giants managed to hold their nerve to get back to winning ways by registering an 11-run win over Delhi Capitals in match 14 of the Women’s Premier League (Wpl) at the Brabourne Stadium on Thursday.
After scintillating fifties from Laura Wolvaardt and Ashleigh Gardner took Gujarat to 147/4 in 20 overs, the bowlers did well, and coupled with mistakes from Delhi’s batters, were able to reduce them to 100/8 by the 15th over.
But Arundhati Reddy gave Gujarat an almighty scare with her 17-ball 25 and shared a partnership of 35 off 21 balls with Shikha Pandey. But with her falling in the 18th over meant Gujarat eventually finished on the right side of the result and pushed Royal Challengers Bangalore to the bottom of the points table.

On Tuesday, in a re-match between the two teams, Harmanpreet again proved to be the difference through her 30-ball 51 while smashing seven fours and two sixes to register her third fifty in four innings of the competition.
There used to be a time when Harmanpreet used to blow hot and cold in T20 matches. But, in the ongoing Wpl, she has turned out to be consistent with the bat while bailing Mumbai out of tough situations.
Such was the impact of Harmanpreet’s knock that Gujarat’s wicketkeeper-batter Sushma Verma conceded after the match ended that the right-handed batter was just unstoppable at the moment.
Saba Karim, the former India wicketkeeper-batter, believes that consistency is the biggest change in Harmanpreet’s batting. "Mumbai Indians have a good legacy of creating a wonderful environment that allows not only big players but also for the young players to grow."
"That is what is being seen in Harman.

Navi Mumbai, March 11 (Ians) After a dominating 10-wicket win over Gujarat Giants in a Wpl 2023 match, the Delhi Capitals skipper Meg Lanning on Saturday said that it was pretty cool to watch Shafali Verma’s blistering knock and she was just cheerleading from the other end.
Chasing a paltry target of 106, Shafali made a mockery of the Giants’ bowling attack and very much sealed the victory for Delhi inside the powerplay. Her blistering knock started with a six and a four off Tanuja Kanwar in the second over, followed by a hat-trick of fours off Kim Garth.
Ashleigh Gardner, who came to bowl next wasn’t spared either as the DC opener struck two fours, and a six, with skipper Meg Lanning, also striking two boundaries in the over that yielded 22. Two more fours, with a couple of singles, helped Shafali bring up a 19-ball fifty and then she hit...

Mumbai, March 8 (Ians) Gujarat Giants captain Sneh Rana won the toss and elected to bat first against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Wpl 2023 match at Brabourne Stadium, here on Wednesday.
After winning the toss, Sneh said the playing eleven is unchanged from their three-wicket loss to Up Warriorz on Sunday.
“It’s a used pitch. Want to bat freely with our batting depth. The environment was very positive – the kind of cricket we played. I’m enjoying the role. It adds responsibility to your shoulders,” she added.
Bangalore skipper Smriti Mandhana said leg-spin all-rounder Poonam Khemnar will replace batter Disha Kasat in the playing eleven.
“Considering the wicket, I don’t mind doing both. But we would’ve loved to bat as well. We had the discussion as a bowling unit (about the short outfield dimensions). First two games weren’t the way we wanted to start. It’s 8 matches...

Lucknow, March 13 (Ians) India women will hope their lower-order batting comes good this time and they are able to challenge South Africa women in the fourth Odi, a game they need to win to stay alive in the five-match series. Lucknow, March 9 (Ians) A strong all-round performance helped India women bounce back from their series-opening defeat against South Africa with a comfortable nine-wicket win in the second Odi here on Tuesday.
Jhulan Goswami lead a clinical bowling display by claiming four for 42 as the tourists were bundled out for 157 in 41 overs at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium. Half centuries by Smriti Mandhana and Punam Raut then led a strong reply as the hosts won with more than 20 overs to spare.

It was a good response by the Indians, especially after they were on the other end of a heavy defeat by the South Africans in match one on Sunday.
