Original The Good Doctor cast member Chuku Modu is once again a series regular on the ABC medical drama, playing Dr. Jared Kalu.
Modu, who originally returned midway through last season as a recurring, has been promoted to regular for the upcoming seventh season, now in production.
Modu’s surgical resident Dr. Jared Kalu was a breakout character in Season 1. He got into trouble for punching a doctor who had sexually harassed his girlfriend, resident Claire Browne (Antonia Thomas) and ultimately headed to Colorado for a surgeon job.
Kalu eventually left that job to become a concierge doctor, which is how he ended up back at San Jose’s St. Bonaventure Hospital. He ended up sticking around his old stumping grounds.
The full-time return of Modu, first reported by TVLine, follows the exit of fellow original Good Doctor cast member Will Harper who is running for Senate. Brandon Larracuente also...

Stephen King’s novels and short stories are ready-made material for horror genre filmmakers to adapt and send the viewers into a labyrinth of terror. Many of his works are very well known. The new movie The Boogeyman, directed by Rob Savage, is based on King’s 1973 short story of the same name. It tells the story of the Harper family, which suffers terribly after the death of the mother. The father, a psychiatrist by the name of Will Harper, while struggling to deal with his own grief, starts to focus too much on his work and not enough on his two young girls. The elder, Sadie, drifts apart from her friends at school, and the younger one, Sawyer, starts to get terrified in her room at night. All this has to do with a sick man who came to see Will at his house. The characters are rich in their inner lives,...

The new horror film The Boogeyman does something very unusual as compared to other recent horror movies. It places importance on both the characters in the film and the tropey jumpscares, which is why I think it is highly engaging and connects very deeply because of the well-written characters. This does not mean that it’s completely devoid of genre conventions. On the contrary, it is totally a conventional movie, and you might see the twist coming, yet there is something very tender about the film that has been wonderfully brought forward by the performances. The story revolves around the Harper family, which was grieving their mother’s death.
Will Harper lost his wife and now has to look after the two children. Sadie, the elder daughter, was growing distant from Will, and Sawyer, the younger one, was just too young, but she too missed her mother. She constantly reminded Will of this feeling,...

Often, the difference between the two relies on how realistic the movie’s setting, situations, characters, and set are. In making The Boogeyman, based on a Stephen King story, director Rob Savage says it was his top priority was to make the movie — including its monster — seem real. The following post contains spoilers for "The Boogeyman."
Most Stephen King adaptations contain more than their share of darkness. For decades, the Master of Horror has written about monsters dwelling in the darkest corners of humanity as well as the darkness we carry in the depths of our souls. In the new horror film "The Boogeyman," director Rob Savage brings to life one of the darkest stories in King's first short story collection. The sixth tale in "Night Shift" tackles both types of gloom with a soul-sucking ghoul that feeds on grief and a harrowing climax that takes place in near-total darkness.
The film's conclusion begins with Sadie Harper (Sophie Thatcher) rushing to warn her father about the sinister creature growing stronger in their home. When she arrives, she finds the lights extinguished and her little sister Sawyer (Vivien Lyra Blair) hiding in the closet. The frightened girls descend into...

The Boogeyman opens with a scene that will give any parent the heeby-jeebies, and sets your skin on edge right away. From there, we quickly move to the movie’s main protagonists adjusting to their new lives after a tragic death in the family of the mother. We find that the oldest daughter, 16-year old Sadie, is having the hardest time with it, going so far as to borrow a dress from her mother’s closet to wear to school, in an effort to still feel some connection to her mother. The father, Will Harper (Chris Messina), a psychiatrist, seems unable to address the new family situation, avoiding talking about his recently...

At this point, it’s unusual to find a piece of Stephen King’s writing that hasn’t been adapted for the screen, but that’s what’s been done with The Boogeyman. Nearly five decades after it was written, it’s being released as a new film. Chris Messina is one of the film’s stars, and he saw the film as a golden opportunity to finally become part of King’s legacy. Do you have plans for June? Cancel them. There’s simply too much to watch — at home and at the movies — for any other activities.
Returning television shows alone could keep you busy. Among favorites coming back for new seasons you’ll find The Eric Andre Show, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Human Resources, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Outlander, And Just Like That, The Bear, The Witcher, Jack Ryan, and The Righteous Gemstones.
But there’s plenty of new stuff, too, to say nothing of the many movies arriving...

The Boogeyman, directed by Rob Savage (Host) with a screenplay by Scott Beck & Bryan Woods (A Quiet Place, 65) and Mark Heyman (Black Swan), draws from Stephen King‘s 1973 short story of the same title.
Stephen King’s short takes place in a psychiatrist’s office and sees Dr. Harper engaged with patient Lester Billings in a haunting session that unpacks the mysterious deaths of Lester’s three children. Feature film The Boogeyman uses the short story as the inciting event that brings the malevolent entity that plagued Billings’ home into Dr. Harper’s.
In the film, Chris Messina (Birds of Prey, Devil) assumes the role of Dr. Will Harper, a psychiatrist struggling to help his family through their collective grief, when Lester Billings (David Dastmalchian) arrives at his home office for aid. This pivotal introductory scene establishes Will Harper, the lore, and its ties to King’s source material.

In 2005, screenwriter and author Blake Snyder coined the term “save the cat” when referring to the beat in a story—usually very early on—in which a protagonist does something so admirable it instantly engenders audience sympathy and trust. Think Aladdin giving his only loaf of bread to two street urchins in the Disney movie, or Indiana Jones saving Alfred Molina from spiders, even after Molina’s buddy already betrayed him moments earlier, in Raiders of the Lost Ark.
While watching the opening moments of The Boogeyman, this concept popped into my head, as did the realization that there’s a reversal of it. Consider: Audiences as of late have been inundated with horror movies which want you to know immediately they’re playing for keeps, and their titular monster is the genuine thing. Hence the scene where a baby is stolen and sacrificed to the Devil in The Witch...

If the title feels familiar you would not be wrong. The word “boogeyman” has been the subject of numerous movies all using the same moniker, at least ten on iMDB database before I stopped counting, but all of them dated post 1973 when the horror master Stephen King first published his 8-page short story in a magazine, followed five years later by its inclusion in one of his classic short story collections, “Night Shift”. So in one form or another this now 50 year old tale has become shorthand for lots of Hollywood concoctions that had nothing to do with it, but hey a good title is a good title.
King’s “The Boogeyman” was basically a two hander between a disturbed patient and his therapist who indeed turned out to be his boogeyman. It was actually shot as a short by some entertprising filmmakers in 2012, but clearly there was not enough...

One day in the distant future, horror fans are going to have a rude awakening. Eventually, every single idea that Stephen King has ever committed to the page is going to be adapted into a film or television series; it's inevitable. But until that sad day comes, let's all continue to focus on what spooky King property is coming down the pipeline next.
The sparse but undeniably creepy short story "The Boogeyman" from the "Night Shift" collection is being adapted by director Rob Savage from a script by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, scribes for "A Quiet Place". Originally, the movie was set to premiere on Hulu this year until a well-received test screening and a winning endorsement from King himself convinced Disney's 20th Century Studios to release the film theatrically.
