Welcome back to the Grid, user. Disney is finally following up their cult franchise with a new entry, Tron: Ares. While the new entry in the series does not seemingly feature the Flynn family, at least for now, their legacy will be put into further question as a sophisticated program escapes from the game and ventures into our world. Jared Leto, who had a big swing and a miss with his last franchise attempt, Morbius, is heading up the cast for this continuation. Disney recently unveiled details of Tron: Ares‘ release at last week’s CinemaCon.
Cbr.com has reported on an on-set video taken during a night shoot on the production. The video was posted to social media and seems to show a scene that takes place in a city street with cars stalled in the middle of the road. Jared Leto is seen in full view in his character’s costume.

When Tron first appeared in 1982, it became one of the most popular sci-fi films of the era and is now considered a cult classic. A sequel, Tron: Legacy, was released in 2010 and received mixed reviews, but that did not stop Disney from producing yet another sequel. Tron: Ares is set to be the next installment in the series and will serve as a standalone sequel to the two previous movies. Production began in January 2024 and Disney has now confirmed the film’s official theatrical release date, which is going to happen on October 10, 2025!
Plans for a sequel started emerging back in 2010 after Legacy, but several ideas and projects were scrapped along the way and the sequel seemed to be stuck in developmental hell. In 2022, it was confirmed that the movie was still happening and production was set to begin in 2023, but was initially postponed indefinitely due to the SAG-AFTRA strike.

Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith is a film full of epic moments. One of the best scenes is the opening battle scene where Chancellor Palpatine manipulates Anakin Skywalker into killing Count Dooku during the Battle of Coruscant.

In the scene where Supreme Chancellor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) instructs Anakin (Hayden Christensen) to cut off Count Dooku’s (Christopher Lee) head, he delivers some famous lines in a dramatic manner. Cameron Monaghan as Cal Kestis in Star Wars
However, it still left some questions unanswered. The journey of Cal Kestis in particular, played by actor Cameron Monaghan in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, aroused a lot of curiosity in the fans’ minds. Addressing the issue, the Game Director, Stig Asmussen in an interview with Dexerto, spilled some beans.
A Star Wars game trilogy was the vision
The game director revealed what he was thinking before Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was a reality. Asmussen revealed that while the team was working on the first game, Fallen Order, he imagined himself leading the development of his own Star Wars trilogy of games.

Star Wars has been taking it slow for the past few years, staving off a big theatrical release in favor of telling stories on the small screen, via shows like Ahsoka, The Mandalorian, and The Bad Batch. a slew of Star Wars video games has been able to hype up fans too, introducing new characters like Cal Kestis, who fans hope will make his live-action debut soon.

However, while Cal Kestis’ appearance in a live-action property might take some time, there are plenty of references in each show, film, and animated series that tie all these corners of the Star Wars universe together. While a lot of fans expected him to show up in The Mandalorian, it seems that the character has had a sneaky connection with another beloved Star Wars show all along

The 2010 science fiction action film directed by Joseph Kosinski, Tron: Legacy, was a box office hit. Starring Garrett Hedlund, Jeff Bridges, and Olivia Wilde, the film is a direct sequel to Tron (1982), and is directed by Steven Lisberger. Made 28 years after the first movie, Tron: Legacy made up in visuals and sound what it lacked in story. The movie was also nominated for an Oscar that year in the Best Sound Editing category, but lost to Richard King for Inception.

We are officially in a bold, new future, folks. No, I'm not talking about how it feels like we're just one misguided billionaire's whims away from actually entering the grid and ending up in some dystopian era where we're literally living through the plot of "Tron" and its follow-up, "Tron: Legacy." I'm referring to the fact that legacy sequels to legacy sequels are now in vogue and here to stay for good. But you can't argue with what the people want and what they want is as simple as it gets: more Daft Punk.
After years and years of viewers demanding a third movie in the "Tron" franchise, Disney is making that wish into a reality. Cameron Monaghan hopes for one thing in a potential live-action debut for his Star Wars character Cal Kestis.
Monaghan has played the Jedi Master in two critically acclaimed video games up to this point (Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Survivor) but he has yet to appear anywhere on-screen in the galaxy far, far away.
When prodded on potentially bringing his Star Wars hero into live-action, the Shameless and Gotham actor previously said he was more focused on giving Cal a "satisfying arc within the games" and has not thought about anything outside of that.

Cameron Monaghan's Cal Kestis is expected to return for another gaming adventure in Star Wars Jedi 3. Here's what we know so far about its release, plot, characters, and more.
After some turbulent years of Star Wars video games under Electronic Arts (EA) exclusivity, the publisher struck gold in Titanfall developer Respawn Entertainment's third-person action-adventure game Jedi: Fallen Order.
The hit Star Wars title put gamers in the shoes of Cal Kestis, a Jedi Padawan who survived Order 66 due to his master's sacrifice. 2019's Fallen Order spawned a sequel in 2023's Survivor, which was once again praised by players.

With “My Love Affair with Marriage,” animator Signe Baumane creates another dense personal narrative that expresses complicated concepts and ideas in images. Stuffed with irony, humor, Soviet history and musical numbers, her ambitious second feature (following 2014’s festival hit “Rocks In My Pockets”) boasts 30 singing and speaking characters (including a talking neuron that explains the biochemical processes of the brain) and about 200 non-speaking ones. Using hand-drawn characters animated against 3D hand-made sets and papier-mâché sculptures, it merges the origin story of an independent, artistic Soviet girl with an account of her biochemical processes at crucial moments in her life. A paean to gender equality and being yourself, the overall message is that we all want to love and be loved, but need to be accepted for the way we are.
Although inspired by Baumane’s life, the narrative unfolds as a roman à clef with invented names for real persons,...

This article contains spoilers for Ahsoka, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
Ahsoka hasn’t yet been officially renewed for another season, but with all of the loose threads left by the season 1 finale, it’s hard not to dream about where season 2 could take these characters.
With Ahsoka (Rosario Dawson), Sabine (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno), and Baylan Skoll (Ray Stevenson) now stranded on Peridea and Thrawn (Lars Mikkelson) returning home with an army of entombed Nightsisters in tow, there is a lot at stake across not just one, but two galaxies. Now that the Nightsisters have officially made a comeback in the New Republic era, I can’t think of a better character to bring into Ahsoka than Nightsister Merrin (Tina Ivlev).
First introduced in the video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Merrin has since appeared in the 2023 sequel Star Wars...

When the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes ended, someone opened the floodgates for news pouring out of Hollywood. In addition to giving actors the go-ahead to hype their latest projects, updates for existing films and television series continue to rain like men. According to Collider, production for the long-gestating Tron sequel, Tron: Ares, starts filming in Vancouver after the holidays. Initially, cameras were supposed to roll in August, but the strikes delayed the process by several months. The shutdown was harsh, with Tron: Ares director Joachim Rønning expressing his disappointment about over 150 people terminated from the production.
“Today was supposed to be our first day of principal photography on Tron: Ares,” Rønning said in a straight-forward Instagram post in August. “Instead, we are shut down with over a hundred and fifty people laid off. It’s indefinite, which makes it exponentially harder for everyone…The AMPTP, SAG-AFTRA and WGA need...

The Game Awards 2023 panel has revealed the full list of nominees who will be eligible to win at this year’s show. While many of the nominees are relatively unsurprising, there are certainly a few games that did (and didn’t) get nominated that will get people talking.
Here’s everything you need to know about The Game Awards 2023’s nominees and voting process.
The Game Awards 2023: How Voting Works
According to the Game Awards website, Game Awards winners are determined by a “blended vote” that accounts for jury votes and fan votes. The jury votes account for 90% of the voting weight while the fan votes make up the remaining 10%.
Though an example of that formula is not provided, it’s basically best to think of the system like a 10-person voting jury. Nine of the jurors would represent voting individuals of the group, and the 10th person would...

Sometimes life is so absurd in its pain and unfairness that a girl’s just gotta sing — or at least rewrite the songs she’s hearing. It takes a while for Zelma, the scrappy main character of the droll and vibrant My Love Affair With Marriage, to reach the point where she’s calling the musical shots, figuratively speaking. It’s an exhilarating and hard-won moment when she does.
At key moments throughout the animated feature, which takes her from age 7 through her 20s, she’s bombarded with the song stylings of three Mythology Sirens, harmonizing scolds who take different forms, depending on the circumstances. They reinforce Zelma’s self-doubt and castigate her whenever she breaks or questions the old-school rules of the boy-girl game, the ones that say women must be submissive — “a smart woman looks weak” — and that only marriage makes them whole.

Live or die. The choice is yours. But if you reach ten sequels, shit’s probably going to get weird. This week, the Saw franchise returns with Saw X. Which means people really like to see other people tortured and I’m judging every single one of us. It also means the Saw franchise has done something quite special. Not many horror franchises make it this long. Not even Freddy himself has crossed the tenth movie finish line. Scream. Evil Dead. Child’s Play. Paranormal Activity. The Conjuring. Even when you include the spinoffs, none of them have hit ten films!
But Saw X isn’t the first horror franchise to reach that landmark. So, let’s play a game and take a look at how other franchises have fared in their milestone tenth installments…

Walk into one room and bemoan Jason X and everyone will laugh and agree.

The very successful Star Wars Jedi series of video games has a lot to like about it: A charismatic lead, satisfying lightsaber combat, and a compelling storyline set between the Prequel and Original Trilogies.

The ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, now in its second month, has claimed yet another victim, as Tron: Ares has officially been delayed the same week it was set to begin filming. Coming hot off the news, director Joachim Rønning has expressed his frustrations on social media, urging there to be a better “safety net” as SAG-AFTRA and WGA (whose own strike has exceeded 100 days so far) continue to be in a stalemate with the AMPTP, the group at the center of both strikes.
The delay of Tron: Ares will result not just in a calendar shakeup but the loss of jobs for around 150 crew members. As such, director Rønning has not minced words on his take. As per The Hollywood Reporter, “Today was supposed to be our first day of principal photography on Tron: Ares. Instead, we are shut down with over a hundred and fifty people laid off. Tron: Ares director Joachim Rønning took to Instagram to give an update on the long-awaited sequel and express his frustration with the SAG-AFTRA strike, which has delayed the start of the Disney film.

Twice a month Joe Lipsett will dissect a new Amityville Horror film to explore how the “franchise” has evolved in increasingly ludicrous directions. This is “The Amityville IP.”
We’ve reached the last of the studio Amityville films with writer/director Franck Khalfoun’s Amityville: The Awakening (2017). It’s taken this editorial series a while to reach this milestone because we’re going through the Amityville films chronologically, though anyone familiar with the troubled production history of the film could feasibly argue this should have been covered back among the 2014 films (when the film was originally filmed) or 2016 (when reshoots were done and the film was originally scheduled for release).
In addition to those 2016 reshoots – the results of poor audience scores – the film was derailed due to its ties to the Weinstein/#MeToo movement. It was eventually dumped onto Google Play for free in late 2017.

Exclusive: Shameless alum Cameron Monaghan has closed a deal to join Jared Leto and more in Tron: Ares, the third film in the Tron sci-fi franchise from Disney. Details as to Monaghan’s character are under wraps, though the film will follow Leto’s computer program Ares on a journey from the digital world to that of humans.
Directing Tron: Ares is Joachim Rønning (Kon-Tiki), who helmed both Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil for Disney following his breakout with 2012’s Kon-Tiki. Evan Peters, Jodie Turner-Smith and Greta Lee round out the cast of the pic penned by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne, which is reportedly eyeing an August start, should a SAG-AFTRA strike be avoided. Emma Ludbrook, Jeffrey Springer and Leto will produce, with Russell Allen serving as executive producer.

The recent "Jedi" video games, "Fallen Order" and "Survivor," are the best "Star Wars" games in almost 20 years, giving us phenomenal gameplay, impressive visuals, and the best lightsaber action mechanics since "Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy," getting us as close as we'll ever get to becoming a powerful Jedi.
The games also tell a fantastic standalone story of survival and resistance that still adds to the overall mythology of "Star Wars" in interesting ways. The games are set after the destruction of the Jedi Order and the fall of the Republic, in the Reign of the Empire era of the franchise that has been slowly but surely building up to becoming the best era of "Star Wars," as it allows for stories of rebellion featuring underdogs facing seemingly insurmountable odds.

Less than four years ago, following the microtransactions debacle and unfulfilled promises of its first two efforts, gaming behemoth Electronic Arts — popularly known as EA — delivered a "Star Wars" game that didn't tick off fans. But "Jedi: Fallen Order" was clearing a low bar EA had set for itself. Its story was threadbare and the world too empty — as you mowed through herds of faceless Stormtroopers and briefly met a range of forgettable characters, you realized that it had no personality. Crucially, "Fallen Order" didn't feel like a living, breathing world. Its follow-up, "Star Wars Jedi: Survivor," feels like an attempt to answer all the complaints fans and players had.
Though it is still structurally a corridor shooter, "Survivor" feels less like one. While the narrative ping-pongs you between several celestial bodies — including the galaxy's capital Coruscant and the Jedi's spiritual home Jedha — it keeps bringing you back to Koboh,...

This post contains spoilers for season 3 of "The Mandalorian."
Season 3 of "The Mandalorian" ended on a glorious note. The Mandalorians were able to reclaim their home planet, Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) was defeated, and our favorite father-son duo, Din (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu even got their own little home in Nevarro. Despite assuming an often directionless, meandering pace, season 3 of the show had some impressive highlights, including a flashback to Order 66 from Grogu's point of view. When The Armorer (Emily Swallow) forges Grogu a beskar rondel, the kid has some intense flashbacks to the fateful night, and it is revealed that Jedi master Kelleran Beq (Ahmed Best) was the one who saved him during the purge at the Jedi temple.
This begs the question, was Grogu ever at the risk of running into Anakin Skywalker, who had already turned to the Dark Side by then? As Anakin was the one...

It’s launch day for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the highly anticipated sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. The game once again chronicles the journey of Cal Kestis, a young Jedi who survived Order 66 and remained in hiding until he became a target of the Empire. As it’s not easy being a Jedi, Mark Hamill stopped by the Star Wars Jedi: Survivor motion capture stage to give Cameron Monaghan a little advice. You can check out the fun promo video for the game above!
Picking up five years after the events of the first game, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor finds Cal Kestis beginning to feel the weight of being one of the last remaining Jedi in the galaxy as he must stay one step ahead of the Empire’s constant pursuit. Accompanied by his trusty companion Bd-1, Cal will meet and ally himself with an array of unique...

This article contains spoilers for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
Respawn Entertainment surprised gamers and Star Wars fans alike with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. The title is not only a blast to play, but its story and characters are fleshed out, thanks in no small part to its cast.
Instead of starring mostly voice actors, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order sports an even mix of talented voices and skilled live-action actors. While this strategy has proven disastrous for many games in the past, every member of Fallen Order’s cast carried their role with dignity and gravitas. And when Respawn announced a sequel, the voice director knew they had a good thing going for them and kept most of the actors who brought Fallen Order to life. As for the voices of new characters of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, they fit right in.
