Robert J. King began his career working in the mail room at Paramount Studios. After working several years with Dick Clark Productions, he continued to produce short films and music videos. He optioned several books by Jim Lehrer, but after aggressively pitching those projects they stalled. Robert was the producer who optioned the life rights of Portland, Oregon's door-to-door salesman Bill Porter. Along with Forest Whitaker, Robert was Co-Executive Producer of TNT's Emmy and Peabody Award-winning movie Door to Door which starred William H. Macy, Helen Mirren and Kyra Sedgwick.
He has won an Emmy, a Peabody, AFI's Top 10 Television Program Award, a Broadcast Critics Choice Award, a Golden Satellite, a Christopher Award, and the Catholics in Media Board of Directors Award, as well as being a nominee for a Humanitas Award and Television Critics Association Award.
He is an accomplished trumpet player who has performed at The Hollywood Bowl and The Lincoln Center, and who has played with Maynard Ferguson's band as well as playing backing up for Jack Black.
