Paramount Combines Streamers Pluto & My5 In UK
Paramount is to combine its AVoD platform Pluto TV with BVoD My5 in the UK. In a move that could be the precursor to the breaking down of barriers between AVoD and BVoD, the new streamer will launch in the market in the second half of next year, with more details coming in the next few months. The platform will combine My5’s collection of Paramount UK network Channel 5’s content such as All Creatures Great and Small with Pluto, which carries numerous Fast Channels. Pluto has recently expanded annual revenue beyond $1B, according to Paramount, and is available in 35 markets. Fast once again dominated much of the chatter at Mipcom Cannes and Paramount Chief Strategy Officer and Chief Business Development Officer Jeff Shultz spoke at the confab’s now-annual Fast Summit. “As we look ahead to an IP-delivered future, this is...

Free ad-supported TV (Fast) channels are an ideal medium for sports news. They allow users to get caught up on their favorite teams and leagues for free, and they give streamers a way to drive customers toward a paid subscription platform where they can see actual games live.
Dazn is the top digital sports distributor in Europe and is also quite active in Brazil, holding the rights to NFL football, NBA basketball, top soccer leagues like the English Premier League, Laliga and much more. To supplement that wide array of coverage, Dazn is adding five new streaming channels to Paramount’s free streaming platform Pluto TV in European and Latin American territories, some of which even grant users the ability to watch live matches.

Gaumont UK Options Tm Logan’s ‘The Mother’
Gaumont UK has picked up rights to Tm Logan’s The Mother and will develop the thriller as a returning drama series. Released earlier this year, The Mother starts from the shadows, as a woman attends her own funeral after serving 10 years in jail for the murder of her husband. With two grieving sons in mourning, it’s evident she will stop at nothing to clear her name and reconnect with her children. Gaumont UK President Alison Jackson said she was “instantly fascinated” by the story, calling it a “tantalising addictive read with a brilliantly complex female protagonist.” Gaumont also has rights to Sixteen Horses, Dog Rose Dirt, and Dressed For War: The Story of Audrey Withers. It was most recently behind Netflix thriller Obsession starring Richard Armitage with Moonage Pictures along with Channel 5 thriller For Her Sins. The UK hub opened five years ago.

Mediawan VP content, Charles Touboul, said: “For The Record is a timeless love story with universal themes and unforgettable music, perfect for a global market.
Exclusive: French distributor Mediawan has taken worldwide distribution and European/LatAm format rights for For The Record, CBC Gem’s shortform comedy from Suits actor Julian De Zotti. Mediawan will take the comedy, which stars De Zotti alongside The Expanses’ Anna Hopkins, on the road following this week’s Mipcom. The show had its international premiere earlier this year at SXSW and features an interconnected cast of characters who are brought together in each episode by a song from Universal Music’s back catalogue. Mediawan’s move is “part of a larger effort of Canadian content and its creators to cross borders and find success abroad,” according to De Zotti, who was speaking exclusively to Deadline and cited the success of Schitt’s Creek. Mediawan VP content, Charles Touboul, said: “For The Record is a timeless love story with universal themes and unforgettable music, perfect for a global market.
