Iman Vellani is a Canadian actress of Pakistani origin. She is known for portraying Kamala Khan, the protagonist of the Disney+ miniseries Ms. Marvel (2022). Vellani is set to reprise the role in the film The Marvels (2023). Born in Karachi, Pakistan, Vellani moved to Canada when she was a year old, and was raised in the Ismaili faith, a branch of Shia Islam. She graduated from Unionville High School in Markham, Ontario. Vellani was selected as a member of the TIFF Next Wave Committee at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival. Before being cast in Ms. Marvel at the end of her last year of high school, Vellani had planned to attend the Ontario College of Art & Design University with a focus on integrated media.

A big fan of the film Iron Man (2008). She can recite the first five minutes of it.
With her casting in Ms. Marvel (2022), she became the first Muslim to play a titular superhero in a live-action Marvel adaption.
Iman Vellani landed the role of Ms. Marvel via WhatsApp. Speaking on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Iman said: "My aunt forwarded me a WhatsApp of the casting call. I sent in a very academic resumé and the only head shot I had. I sent in my self-tape at 3am and then the next day I get a call, 'Do you have a lawyer? We want to fly you to LA' and I was like, 'I have a math test but we'll figure this out'."
