What is a common link between John Cena, Randy Orton, Dave Bautista, and Brock Lesnar? Well, of course, they all are WWE Superstars. However, an astonishing fact is that all these prospective Hall of Famers were all a member of the famous “Class of 2002”.

WWE’s former developmental territory Ohio Valley Wrestling churned out a class of rookies unlike any other in 2002. These names exploded into superstardom and went on to become the most decorated names in wrestling. Interestingly, even though these four are incredibly talented athletes, there was someone even more athletic hired by WWE that same year!

WWE didn’t need to wait until Friday night to lay the smackdown on its employees, as mass layoffs were initiated on Thursday following the merger of the pro wrestling giant and UFC, led by Endeavor.
More than 100 employees — mostly from the WWE — got some sweet chin music this week that they were being released amid the move to cut costs in the Endeavor purchase. While not everybody will be a household name, there are still some major sports entertainers on the list. These include 19-year veteran Dolph Ziggler, a former WWE World Heavyweight Champion and Money in the Bank winner; Shelton Benjamin, who had one of the longest Intercontinental Championship reigns ever (putting him in the company of The Rock and Mr. Perfect); and the vastly underutilized Elias (we hope Ezekial still has a job at least…).

Match #1: The Bloodline def. Lwo The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Just days away from the WWE Draft and weeks away from WWE Backlash, The Lwo and The Bloodline threw down in a Six-Man Tag Team Match. With new music inspired by WWE Hall of Famer Eddie Guerrero, The Lwo confidently strode down to the ring. Their confidence paid off at the start when they stood tall to begin the match. The Lwo continued their dominance with Santos Escobar lighting up The Usos and Sikoa with jumping knee strikes and crossbodys. Match #1: Damian Priest def. Angelo Dawkins The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Before the match, WWE Official Adam Pearce ordered everyone surrounding the ring to go to the backstage area, allowing this match to be contested one-on-one. In the early goings, Angelo Dawkins threw Damian Priest over the announce table, proving he meant business in this Elimination Chamber Qualifying Match. Priest bounced back fairly quickly, hitting a Broken Arrow followed by a Bell Clap. Dawkins gave it his all, hitting a superb Swanton Bomb but could only achieve a two-count. Priest grabbed the victory with a South of Heaven to make the Elimination Chamber even more judgmental than it already was.

Shelton Benjamin has had an interesting run in WWE. A former United States and Intercontinental Champion. A former WWE Tag Team Champion. A frequent show-stealer in the Money in the Bank ladder matches. However, despite Benjamin’s accolades in the company, he’s never been able to grab the brass ring. It’s an odd situation as Jim Ross actually revealed that Vince McMahon saw top star potential in Shelton Benjamin. In fact, one of the key reasons that Charlie Haas and Benjamin broke up is the fact that he was reportedly in line for a big push. Whether that push would’ve resulted

It didn’t seem too long ago when Bobby Lashley, Cedric Alexander, and Shelton Benjamin were on top of the world together. Going back to 2018, Lashley’s return to the company has been hit-and-miss, with the latter being a big reason his career didn’t skyrocket the way it should. The former WWE Champion was coming off an incredible title reign in Impact Wrestling, showcasing that Lashley does have a personality and can cut promos. Lashley mainly floated around the mid-card scene, but his feud with Sami Zayn caused more harm than good. That’s due to the infamous three sister’s segment. Instead

Let’s see!

Former Nxt Champion Tommaso Ciampa had a front-row seat at the Raw announce table for this one stemming from Dolph Ziggler’s recent appearance on Nxt 2.0. After a few disappointing events from WWE, the company heads to the Middle East for the first time in over a year. Emanating from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Crown Jewel came with an absolutely stacked card, however the Saudi Arabia events often come with a fair share of controversy. And they often seem to be the times when WWE pulls some of their worst booking decisions or puts on matches that result in disaster. That said, there have been shows that have come off well (if flawed), like 2018’s Greatest Royal Rumble or Crown Jewel 2019, so could this super scaled show in 2021 dig WWE out of its major rut of late?
Yes…Yes it could!

Welcome to this week’s Monday Night Raw review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and Steven Spielberg is a pussy. What do you call a mean Scottish woman? McBitch. I can’t believe that Edge turned heel already. So much for the miracle run towards WrestleMania for Edge. Well, we’re on Raw, where Bobby Lashley is the champion. I’m glad that Bobby finally got the shot at the strap. You know what I’m ready for? Bad Bunny! Wait…no I’m not. What’s the deal with his fur-burger hair-cut? Rhea Ripley is gonna be here. I hope she doesn’t have to do any-thing with The Fiend. Why is that guy still crispy as a duck’s ass in “Man Of Lamuncha”? I like to quilt. Raw starts…f—k Steven Spielberg.

Welcome to this week’s Monday Night Raw review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and there was once a Jewish teenager who played on his high school basketball team. Living in Alabama, the teen would often endure having to listen to the goobers try to use Yiddish words incorrectly. One day, his coach saw the teen playing badly and told him to “Stop playing like a shmuck.” The teen, annoyed at the usage, told his coach that “You don’t even know what a shmuck is you putz.” The coach, baffled at this accusation of idiocy, inquired to his student, “What’s a putz?” The teen, without missing a beat, fired off “A putz is a shmuck you dick.” Now that we have that wonderful story fully told, let’s…what the… The Penguin: I am not a human being! I’ve actually enjoyed much of Raw and (to slightly lesser extent) Smackdown heading towards the end of this frankly horrible year. Yet, going in to TLC the conversation was dominated by a record low Raw TV rating last week, a network begging for adult-aimed content and maybe an eventual shift in the WWE TV product. Yet, whatever has gone wrong with certain aspects of WWE, I was looking forward to TLC 2020 more than any PPV in some time. All the announced matches, from the two title bout Tables, Ladders and Chairs matches to the just announced Firefly Inferno match stipulation to the much anticipated “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton showdown, seemed to have very low chances of being disappointing. So could this be a high end to a most chaotic and uncertain year in wrestling?

Welcome, one and all, to the second annual Nerdly WWE Top 50! I began this idea last year. Our version of such established ranking lists as the “Pwi 500” and the like, but just with WWE in mind. I mean, I watch other products and promotions, like Aew, New Japan, Ring of Honor and Nwa, but… sticking to one promotion, the promotion I tend to watch the most, makes sense, and makes this one-man-job a lot easier to do. This list will cover the last twelve months, from September 2019 until August of 2020.
Like last year, this will take into account work-rate, match-quality, visibility of the workers on television, their promo work, but also… and this is important to note, the way that they’ve been used. You see… there are men and women in WWE who, if they were used more often and booked in a more substantial manner, would rank way...

Normally in one week of build up you wouldn’t really have much to talk about. But in the shortest gap between WWE Pay-Per-Views since Evolution and Crown Jewel in 2018, WWE seeks to keep the energy going after a pretty great Summerslam exactly one week on, with last night’s Payback. Going in the big story was of course “The Big Dog” Roman Reigns who not only returned to much attention at Summerslam but on Smackdown shockingly was revealed to be now aligned with Paul Heyman. But would he sign the contract and be there tonight to face Universal Champion “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman in a destructive No Holds Barred Triple Threat match (aka a Triple Threat match)? Would Wyatt lose the gold after just a week? Would WWE ruin the incredible Fiend character by doing that? Would Retribution show up this time? Would Nxt megastar Keith...

In the week’s leading up to Summerslam, WWE had some rather hit and miss TV. Where WWE Monday Night Raw was struggling to fill its 3 hours, WWE Friday Night Smackdown was conversely excelling, with fresh faces getting a shot and some better all-round content. In the run up to WWE’s summer spectacular PPV, there’s no doubt about it that things were somewhat interesting. From Shane McMahon debuting the divisive Raw Underground to Alexa Bliss intriguingly being placed in the middle of “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman’s impending showdown, this was certainly an unexpected build to Summerslam.
So, as Dominik Mysterio (after being beaten black and blue – literally – with kendo sticks) makes his in-ring debut and we prepare for either Mandy Rose or Sonya Deville to leave WWE, did WWE manage to deliver a sublime summer sizzler? Or a big fizzle out? At one point...

Match #1: Shayna Baszler def. Bayley (Disqualification) The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Shayna Baszler was focused on making a case for a SmackDown Women’s Title opportunity, but Nia Jax helped her enter another championship picture. Following a backstage encounter, Jax entered after Baszler and watched from the WWE ThunderDome. A big knee strike from The Queen of Spades shook up Bayley and had her teammate Sasha Banks uneasy on the outside. Unable to help herself, Jax entered the fray and got brutal payback for Baszler’s backstage taunts with a huge right hand. “The Golden Role Models” found perhaps their first moment of joy since a turbulent SummerSlam as they watched.

Last month, I wrote how the renewed push — and quite frankly, the reinvention — of Randy Orton’s character could be a force that helps stem the tide of WWE’s faltering ratings and viewership numbers. That’s proven to not be the case, as Raw and SmackDown seem to hit dangerous new lows on a weekly basis.
But that doesn’t mean Orton’s push has been a total failure.
Last night we saw another chapter in the return of “the legend killer.” After a victory over Kevin Owens in Raw’s main event, Orton and Ric Flair, who had been serving as his manager for a few weeks, had an emotional moment in the ring. Orton was upset that Flair’s ego forced him to fight Kevin Owens in the first place. Flair cut one of the most emotional promos we’ve seen on WWE television in some time,...

I’ve previously given lists here on Nerdly of the Top Ten WrestleMania matches of the 80s and the 90s, so it only makes sense to delve into the ten best Mania matches of the 2000s. So, here, on this list, will be what I feel are the best Mania battles between the years 2000 and 2009. There were some good ones, that’s for damn sure, and while some of your favourites may not be present, I’m sure you’ll agree that all of these are classics from the decade. Here we go…

I’m afraid I won’t be covering this week’s Raw, due to a dinner party being held at Dave Meltzer’s J’aQass Manor, in honor of plans changing… again. My Opinion: 3.4 out of 5 – I thought this turned out really well, Mvp looking formidable and Apollo looking like he was a star.
