War Witch, a Canadian-made film about a young girl who escapes from the African rebels who forced her to be a child soldier, was named Best Narrative Feature at the 11th annual Tribeca Film Festival. “This indelible character study of a girl who becomes a woman before our eyes in the midst of harrowing war gives words to the unspeakable,” said the jury, which included Patricia Clarkson, Dakota Fanning, Mike Newell, EW’s Lisa Schwarzbaum, Jim Sheridan, and Irwin Winkler. “Riveting, heartbreaking, vivid, and eloquent, the movie balances scenes of crazy enemy hatred with moments of luminous private love.”

The Tribeca Film Festival awards ceremony took place on Thursday, and the controversial Cuban film "Una Noche" turned out to be the toast of the town. Though "War Witch" won the award for Best Narrative Feature and Rachel Mwanza was named Best Actress, "Una Noche" became the breakout story of the festival after two of its actors disappeared en route to New York.
Director Lucy Mulloy, cinematographers Trevor Forrest and Shlomo Godder were honored for their work on the film. Actors Dariel Arrechada and Jaiver Nunez Florian both won Best Actor in a Narrative Feature.
Other big winners include Nisha Pahuja's "The World Before Her" for Best Documentary Feature, Bryan Buckley's "Asad" for Best Narrative Short and Frederic Golding's "On the Mat" for Best Feature Film in the festival's online competition.

[1] In early August 2010, I had the opportunity to travel to New Orleans to visit the set of the big screen adaptation of Green Lantern. After returning from the set, I recorded a video blog with Frosty from Collider [2] -- an in depth discussion about what we saw during the visit and our early impressions. Keep in mind, we didn't see any completed computer effects rendered footage. My big takeaway from the visit is that Warner Bros isn't just making a superhero movie, but that they are making a big space opera. The scope is huge and very ambitious and I'm excited to see if they can pull it off, and if mainstream America are willing to accept the abundance of hard sci-fi elements. I can tell you, I'm excited (despite some of the early unfinished special effects shots). Watch our set visit video blog embedded after the jump. And throughout...

I am still waiting to be blown away by Green Lantern. I guess it’s still far off from getting a perfect adaptation. Still, the thought of Ryan Reynolds in the lead role and Martin Campbell directing, you would expect something to blow you away and make you say, ‘this is the movie we have been waiting for.’ The first two minute and twenty seven second trailer seems to just underwhelm and I can’t put my finger on why that is. Still, it has a cool Iron Man/Star Trek vibe too it and all the blockbuster elements for a fun film, but I guess I am expecting something epic. Maybe I should lower these expectations. That being said, Warner Brothers has released the first trailer for the film along with a new piece of promo art.

Standing in the middle of large soundstage just outside of the New Orleans French Quarter, I slip the bulky green ring onto my finger. It fits well, heavy but solid. Next I’m handed the glowing green lantern. Lighter than I expected, a greenish-yellow light shines from within.
In brightest day, in blackest night
No evil shall escape my sight
Let those who worship evil's might
Beware my power, Green Lantern's light!
If everything goes according to plan, Warner Bros. and DC hope more than the comic faithful will be reciting Green Lantern’s famed oath come June 17th, 2011. While the character (in various incarnations) has been around for more than 60 years, he remains a relative obscurity for the general populous. Despite his longevity, no Green Lantern character has ever made the transition to cinema or television in live action form.

More Green Lantern news DC fans! The first film to immortalise Hal Jordan hasn’t even hit our screens yet, but of course in the manic, mass produced world of Hollywood this seems to make little difference, as news has hit that writing for Green Lantern 2 is already underway!
We’ve known for a couple of months now that a treatment for the sequel has been floating round Hollywood, but now Michael Goldenberg has been hired to get the script ready for, I’d hazard a guess, a late 2011 shoot. This isn’t the first time that Goldenberg has been involved in the Lantern project, having been brought in to work on the script during production of the first installment – set to hit cinema screens in June next year.
It’s also not the first big Hollywood production he has worked on, Goldenberg was the hired to pen Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix...

One of my most anticipated Panels this year at Comic-Con was for Green Lantern, and it was pretty freakin’ awesome!
Geoff Johns comes out to talk about the new Green Lantern film telling us how excited he is for the film, and they got right into it by showing us the first footage ever from the film!
Here's the Footage Description:
The footage they showed was an unfinished cut, but it looked absolutely amazing! It started out with with a green glowing orb and a voice over of Mark Strong as Sinestro telling the viewer to concentrate on the light in front of them.
"Welcome inhabitants of sector 2814. The Guardians have chosen you as candidates for enlistment but before you can be recruited, you must be tested. The light you see before you is controlled by your will. Focus on the light. If you will it, it will be. Now,...

Hey gang! Some more details from Warner Bros. upcoming comic book adaptation of Green Lantern have been revealed! There may be a few things that are considered spoilers so watch out.
The image that we saw of Green Lantern on the cover of EW is still a work in progress. From the neck down is basically what we see in the film. The CGI is still not finished in the image. The mask was obviously photoshopped in. The real mask will be a physical mask and not look like it's been painted on his face. 25 alien Green Lanterns, each with a different energy signature, were designed for major and minor roles in the movie. The film will mostly be based mainly Secret Origins. A key-scene in the film will feature all the 3,600 Green Lanterns! Parallax's origin is different from the comics. Fans of Sinestro will be happy to know that the mustache is untouched.

Hey Gang! Entertainment Weekly has unleashed the cover to there upcoming magazine which gives us our first look at Ryan Reynolds as The Green Lantern in his full Gc costume! It looks a lot like that early Green Lantern concept art for Sinestro that leaked out a while back. I think the design of the costume is great, and it will be awesome to see it in action! I'm excited.

Warner Bros is broadening its big-screen superhero spectrum beyond Batman and Superman with the addition of the less well-known Green Lantern, in the hope of repeating the success of Marvel's similarly second-tier Iron Man.
And with Ryan Reynolds in the title role and other cast members including Gossip Girls's Blake Lively, Mark Strong and Angela Bassett, the omens look good so far.
There's been little information at this stage - the film isn't out until next June - though we have seen leaked set pictures of Peter Sarsgaard as Hector Hammond, a shot of the spaceship linked to Hal Jordan becoming the Green Lantern, and some images of Reynolds in a dot-covered motion-capture suit on to which the otherworldly green uniform of his character will be digitally mapped.
Now comes some more clues for fans in the form of what appears to be the official synopsis from Warner Bros.
