Francisc Balla(1932-2023)
Francisc Balla is a Romanian freestyle wrestler, winner of the European and World Championships, participant in the Tokyo 1964: Games of the XVIII Olympiad (1964) and Mexico City 1968: Games of the XIX Olympiad (1968).
Balla remained notable as a retired middleweight and light-heavyweight freestyle wrestler whose career saw him win silver medals at the 1965 and 1967 world as well as 1967 European championships.
At the Olympics in Mexico City, in the first fight with the Iranian wrestler Mansour Mehdizadeh, Balla won on points. His second fight with Hungarian Geza Hollosy ended in a draw. In the bout of the third round of the competition, Balla lost cleanly to the Bulgarian Prodan Garzhdev and dropped out of further competition for awards.
