Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool had a long journey before joining the MCU in 2024's Deadpool & Wolverine, which started in 2011's Wolverine Origins (officially titled X-Men Origins: Wolverine).
Reynolds spent years yearning to play Wade Wilson after the antihero described himself as looking like "Ryan Reynolds crossed with a Shar-Pei" in Marvel Comics' Cable and Deadpool #2 (Fabian Nicieza and Mark Brooks) from 2004.
He finally got that opportunity half a decade later when he joined Hugh Jackman for the Australian's first Wolverine solo movie under 20th Century Fox, which showed James Howlett/Logan's origin story. While it was far from the Deadpool fans now know and love, it got his foot in the proverbial door.

Pole vaulter Anthony Ammirati of France likely didn’t expect what happened as he competed Saturday. He flung himself into the air, maneuvering over the bar until… well, the lump on the front of his crotch hit the bar, knocking it down.
The commentators searched for the words to describe what they just witnessed, leaving some awkward silences as they noted that it happened not because he didn’t get high enough with his vault, but instead on the way down. But uh, he didn’t catch his leg on the bar… it was something else.
It’s unknown whether he was wearing a cup, but the visual went viral on social media. User “DenizTheTennis” characterized it by writing, “Imagine losing Olympics cus you have huge d*ck .”
Anthony Ammirati failed the bar and the commentators are clearly having a hard time acknowledging what happened Help I'm Dying pic.twitter.

Next month, Jonathan Hickman (Ultimate Spider-Man) and Greg Capullo (Batman) team up for an all-new prestige limited series: Wolverine: Revenge. Arriving just in time for the character's 50th anniversary, it promises to be five issues of pure, unadulterated Wolverine action that's sure to go down as one of Logan's defining tales.
If that’s not enough, Wolverine: Revenge will also be available as a special "Red Band Edition." That's going to be polybagged "for the protection of innocent eyes" according to Marvel Comics as it will include exclusive pages and elevated violence.
Now, ahead of the title's launch, you can check out an assortment of covers for the debut issue including pieces by Artgerm, Mark Brooks, Pablo Villalobos, Leinil Francis Yu, and many more.
The series marks Capullo's first time doing interior artwork since his return to Marvel last year. Together with Hickman, he will pit Wolverine against a cadre...

Detective Comics #1004 reveals a very different origin for Batman villain, the Arkham Knight.
You would be forgiven for throwing a little eye roll at Detective Comics when you heard that the main Batman villain of the latest arc would be the Arkham Knight. After all, very rarely do ideas that start in other mediums translate all that well to comics. Also, the Arkham Knight is...already spoken for in main DC continuity..
You would be forgiven for it, but you would also be wrong for doing so. First, as we’ve discussed several times before, DC’s track record on comics adaptations is shockingly good. The various Injustice books have been fun, while the Mortal Kombat lead in books have been worthwhile additions to the series and the Arkham Knight adaptation book was high quality. Additionally, the Arkham Knight adaptation was written by Peter Tomasi, who is...

Jonathan Hickman returns to Marvel for an X-Men event: House of X and Powers of X.
At Marvel's Next Big Thing panel at C2E2 in Chicago, Jonathan Hickman was announced as the writer behind a big summer X-Men event: House of X and Powers of X.
Hickman's arrival had been teased by Marvel for weeks, first with an ad in all of its books that was sparse black type on a blank white page that said "When two aggressive species share the same environment, evolution demands adaptation or dominance." They followed this up with the same black font on a mostly blank page that read "Hickman. July 2019." These teases turned out to be for the former Avengers scribe's return to the company to tackle the biggest project he hasn't yet taken on: Marvel's mutant heroes, the X-Men.

Murder comes to Wayne Manor in Detective Comics #995, and Batman isn't happy about it.
You don't spend a decade working on a character without figuring some stuff out about him. So of course we jumped at the chance to share an exclusive preview of this week's issue, #995, when it was offered.
Here's what DC has to say about the issue, which hits stores today, Jan. 2!

Now that Texas Gov. Rick Perry is all in for the Republican presidential nomination race, we'll surely be seeing his name a lot more frequently in the feed. Joe Hill requested a different type of Gop debate between Perry and Mitt Romany last night, while Jonathan Hickman was stuck on rules that vampire stories need to adhere to.
It was a great weekend for artwork, though. Joshua Luna teased his next project, and Mike Norton tweeted some sketches he made at Wizard World Chicago. Their work, a truly awesome Dazzler/Psylocke piece by Janet Lee and news of an unusual birthday present made the list of tweets that brightened our Monday morning.

History and new technology collided in the Twittersphere this morning. Google's Chrome Os-powered Chromebooks got people talking—and scratching their heads in some cases. Meanwhile, Jim Lee's art-tweeting extravaganza continued, this time with an X-Men/Avengers piece he made at the age of 15. To up the ante, though, he shared an old Rob Liefeld picture filled with Marvel and DC characters. You'll have to see it to believe it.
In other news, Hugh Jackman paid a visit to the Google offices in Mountain View, California. He didn't have a Chromebook in his hands, but he looks like he had a good time. Check out the picture down below along with some more "Thor" thoughts and a little Scrabble advice.
