During World War II, George's mother was plucked out of a weapons factory where she worked by day (while singing by night) to become "Ronnie The Bren Gun Girl", a propaganda icon for Canada's women to join her in the factories in support of the war effort. Canada's "Ronnie" predated the creation in The United States of "Rosie The Riveter" by one year. In April 2020, The Canada Post Corporation issued a stamp recognizing her place in the war effort.
