Jerry James Nikolaev was born on September 18, 1990, in Sacramento, California and spent time living/being raised in Portland, Oregon, and Orlando, Florida before moving back to California in 2008 -- where his family still resides to this day. He is known for his role in The Birthday Cake where he was cast as The Russian Bully due to his fluent knowledge of Russian. He is the only child of Russian immigrant parents (Yuri and Leaka Nikolaev), who moved to the U.S.A. as refugees in 1989.
His father, Yuri, was born in the locality of Kryukov, Ukraine, and spent his days owning and operating black car transportation services for the tourism industry in Orlando, Florida before being diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. His Mother, Leaka, was born in the city of Armavir, Russia and has been a lifelong poet and singer in addition to being an accountant by profession.
Jerry studied Psychology at the University of California, Berkeley with a specific interest in body language, microexpressions, and deception detection inspired by Dr. Paul Ekman's work. Although Jerry's Feature Film debut came in 2021, Jerry has been acting for the camera since childhood; participated in Church plays/performances, took on the role of anchor and filmmaker for his high school's morning news programs, acted in small commercial roles while living in New York City.
Jerry is leveraging his acting career to draw attention toward non-profit organizations to combat climate change, support Parkinson's research, and other non-profit endeavors. He has pledged a significant portion of his acting earnings to fight for these causes.
