Four former Twitter executives, including former CEO Parag Agrawal, have filed a lawsuit against Elon Musk over unpaid severance. They are collectively asking for more than $128 million from Musk.
The lawsuit was filed in federal court in San Francisco. It marked the latest in a string of legal woes the billionaire has faced after he acquired Twitter, now X, for $44 billion in October 2022.
The other plaintiffs include Ned Segal, Twitter’s former chief financial officer; Vijaya Gadde, former chief legal officer; and Sean Edgett, former general counsel.
Minutes after Musk took control of the platform, the former executives allege they were fired and accused of misconduct following another lawsuit against Musk for attempting to rescind his offer to purchase the company.
Musk then denied the executives the severance they had been promised for years before he acquired Twitter, according to Monday’s filing. The plaintiffs are each asking for one...

It’s a Hell of a lot more than 140 characters, but the severance and benefits lawsuit against Elon Musk and X Corp from a quartet of ex-Twitter executives sends a very clear message.
Hand over the money you owe us!
That’s a message to the total tune of $128 million claim former CEO, Parag Agrawal, ex-cfo Ned Segal, former Clo Vijaya Gadde, and ex General Counsel Sean Edgett in a complaint filed in federal court in northern California today.
“Because Musk decided he didn’t want to pay Plaintiffs’ severance benefits, he simply fired them without reason, then made up fake cause and appointed employees of his various companies to uphold his decision,” the somewhat redacted six-claim filing notes.
Read the complaint from Twitter’s former CEO, chief financial officer, chief legal officer and general counsel against Elon Musk here.

The list of former Twitter employees, landlords and vendors suing the social media platform and Elon Musk is growing, with four ex-executives filing a lawsuit collectively seeking more than $128 million in unpaid severance.
The executives, including former chief executive Parag Agrawal and other top officers who engineered a lawsuit against Musk after he tried to back out of the $44 billion deal, allege in a complaint filed Monday in California federal court that they were fired for gross negligence or willful misconduct in a bid to deprive them of benefits. They accuse Musk of holding a “special ire” against them for forcing him to follow through with the acquisition.
The lawsuit is believed to be at least the 30th against X (formerly known as Twitter) over refusal to pay. After taking the helm, Musk proceeded to clean house by ousting several executives and roughly half of the employees. Several ex-employees have sued,...

In the months after negotiating a buyout of Twitter but before being forced to consummate the deal in October 2022, Elon Musk deployed scorched-earth tactics in an attempt to lower the price of the $44 billion acquisition.
On Monday, a federal judge advanced a lawsuit from investors who say they suffered losses when they sold their shares in Twitter, now known as X, because of posts from Musk claiming the platform has a major issue with fake accounts and that he could wiggle out of the deal because of it. U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer found that several of Musk’s statements were false or misleading, in part, because he waived due diligence.
The suit, filed last year, is one of several against Musk over his actions leading up to and after the all-cash acquisition of X. It accused him of substantially driving the company’s stock down, with the aim...

New Delhi, Sep 7 (Ians) Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk fired former Indian-origin Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal because he was not “a fire-breathing dragon” which the social network wanted in order to thrive, according to a new biography of one of the richest billionaires on Earth.
American author-journalist Walter Isaacson has written the book named ‘Elon Musk’ which is “an intimate story of the most fascinating and controversial innovator of our era — a rule-breaking visionary who helped to lead the world into the era of electric vehicles, private space exploration, and artificial intelligence”.
According to excerpts published by the Wall Street Journal, Musk was quite opinionated about Agrawal.
“He is a really nice guy, but managers should not aim to be liked. What Twitter needs is a fire-breathing dragon, and Parag is not that,” he is quoted as saying in Isaacson’s book.

New Delhi, July 8 (Ians) While former Twitter Co-founder Jack Dorsey came out in support of his platform, calling Meta’s Threads a ‘Twitter clone’, there is no sight of former Indian-origin Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal and ex-legal head Vijaya Gadde (both appointed by Dorsey) amid the growing debate as several Twitter clones appear.
Both are neither heard nor seen anywhere since they left Twitter last year, with Musk taking over in October and starting firing employees from top to
bottom.
Agrawal was last active on Twitter on October 6 last year (with 601.9K followers), and has not been seen active on any other social media platform
(including Meta’s Threads).
Angel investor Alex Cohen tweeted on Saturday: “I still can’t believe Parag Agrawal only had to be CEO of Twitter from 11 months to then get paid $60

San Francisco, April 11 (Ians) Former Indian-origin Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal, ex-legal head Vijaya Gadde and former chief financial officer Ned Segal have sued Elon Musk-run Twitter over unpaid legal bills in excess of $1 million.
In October last year, Musk informed Agrawal, Gadde and Segal that their employment with the company was terminated as he took control of the micro-blogging platform.
According to the latest lawsuit filed in the Delaware Chancery Court in the US, the trio alleged that Twitter has to pay them more than $1 million for legal fees they incurred while at the company to respond to queries by the Department of Justice and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in several hearings.
Agrawal and Segal were named as defendants in the Securities Class Action in September while both still were working at Twitter.

Just two months after the Tesla mogul bought the social media site for a whopping 44 billion in October, Musk launched a poll to see if people wanted him gone.

Over 17.5 million votes were cast, with 57.5 percent of people voting “yes.”
Musk then shared an update on Tuesday, writing: “I will resign as CEO as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job! After that, I will just run the software & servers teams.”

New York, Dec 10 (Ians) Jay Bhattacharya, an Indian-origin Stanford University professor, who had said that Covid lockdowns would harm children, was placed on a “Trends Blacklist”, internal Twitter documents have revealed

New Delhi, Dec 9 (Ians) New Twitter owner Elon Musk on Friday said the company will delete and free names of 1.5 billion accounts that have been inactive for years on the platform.
“Twitter will soon start freeing the name space of 1.5 billion accounts. These are obvious account deletions with no tweets and no login for years,” said the billionaire.
Musk also said that the micro-blogging platform is working on a process to inform the users whether their tweets have been suppressed under a process known as “shadow banning” and they can appeal against the ban.
He added that Twitter is also working on a software update that will show your true account status.
“So you know clearly if you’ve been shadowbanned, the reason why and how to appeal,” he mentioned.

This time, the “Twitter Files Two” were released by Bari Weiss, Founder and Editor of The Free Press, on the micro-blogging platform and endorsed by Musk.

San Francisco, Nov 10 (Ians) Elon Musk has brought an immediate end to remote work at Twitter for the remaining 50 per cent of the employees, warning them that “the road ahead is arduous and will require intense work to succeed”.

“To help ensure the safety of each employee as well as Twitter systems and customer data, our offices will be temporarily closed and all badge access will be suspended. If you are in an office or on your way to an office, please return home,” Twitter said in an internal memo.
“We acknowledge this is an incredibly challenging experience to go through, whether or not you are impacted,” the memo further read.

San Francisco, Nov 3 (Ians) Twitter Boss Elon Musk is likely to eliminate half of the micro-blogging platform’s workforce to cut costs and more details on how many people might be impacted have started to emerge, a media report said.
Musk met his advisors, including former PayPal executive David Sacks, to finalise a plan to fire about 3,800 workers, the Verge quoted its deputy editor Alex Heath as saying in the report.
According to an earlier report, Musk was planning to cut 3,700 employees and the impacted people could receive 60 days of compensation.
Additionally, he intends to remove Twitter’s “forever” work-from-home policy, it added.
Earlier, it was reported that Twitter layoffs would hit roughly a quarter of the staff, which would heavily impact teams including sales, product, engineering, legal, and trust and safety.
Meanwhile, Musk has also dissolved Twitter’s board of directors after his takeover, according to a US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filing.

San Francisco, Nov 2 (Ians) As Elon Musk continues to fire top executives at Twitter, the company’s chief marketing officer Leslie Berland is leaving the company along with other senior people amid growing uncertainty.
Jean-Philippe Maheu, vice president of global client solutions; chief consumer officer Sarah Personette; and Dalana Brand, chief of people and diversity, are also leaving the micro-blogging platform.
Berland was yet to make the decision to leave Twitter officially, after tweeting out a simple blue heart emoji.
“Thank you, Leslie! Your inspiration and passion were an all time highlight,” a Twitter employee posted.
“It’s not hyperbolic to say that no one had a bigger impact on Twitter the service — and Twitter the company. She always had your back, she always listened, she always did right, and she made Twitter ‘what’s happening,” another employee tweeted.

Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey is betting that Elon Musk can turn the social platform’s fortunes around.
According to securities filings Monday evening, Dorsey opted to roll his ownership stake in the company over to Musk’s new private venture. While Musk had said in the months leading up to the closing of the deal that he had been in talks with Dorsey to roll over his stake, neither man had confirmed the deal until the filings were disclosed on Oct. 31.
Dorsey owned more than 18 million shares in Twitter, valued at about 1 billion. He could have cashed those shares out at 54.20 a piece when Musk took the company private, instead, he will end up saving Musk about 1 billion in his purchase price by rolling those shares over.

Elon Musk has countered speculation that he would immediately reinstate all permanently banned accounts — such as former President Donald Trump’s — and make sweeping content policy changes now that Twitter is firmly under his control.
In a tweet shared on Friday, Musk said Twitter will form a content moderation council with “widely diverse viewpoints” before making any policy changes.
“No major content decisions or account reinstatements will happen before that council convenes,” Musk wrote. He did not share additional details on who would be on the council or when the council was expected to convene.
It is also not immediately clear how Musk’s vision for the council will differ from Twitter’s existing trust and safety council, which formed in 2016 and is comprised of independent expert organizations. Elon Musk has finally gone through with his buyout of Twitter, which he was forced to close on after going back and forth on it.
On his first day as Twitter’s owner on Thursday, Musk fired the company’s CEO Parag Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal and its legal affairs and policy chief Vijaya Gadde.
Twitter had filed suit against Musk to push him to complete the deal, and he apparently began preparations to do so so just a day before he was set to go to trial in Delaware for it.
Musk’s vision for the platform likely involves less content moderation, a war on a supposed army of spam bots that he tried to use as an excuse to back out of the deal, and the potential reinstatement of controversial banned accounts such as Donald Trump and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia).

New Delhi, Oct 28 (Ians) Twitter’s top executives stand to make a total of 88 million between them — Parag Agrawal alone will get 38.7 million — after being ousted by Elon Musk who has finally taken over the micro-blogging platform for 44 billion.
According to Insider, the former Indian-origin CEO is set to receive the largest payout of 38.7 million, largely due “to the entirety of his shares vesting upon his firing”.
Twitter’s chief financial officer Ned Segal, is set to receive 25.4 million and Vijaya Gadde, the chief legal officer, will be richer by 12.5 million after firing.
Sarah Personette, the chief customer officer, would get 11.2 million.
Musk is expected to reorganise Twitter and cut the workforce by a massive margin.
Musk, however, told Twitter employees during his visit to its headquarters that he is not going to lay off 75 per cent of the workforce when he takes over the micro-blogging platform.

San Francisco, Sep 27 (Ians) Tesla CEO Elon Musk and his Twitter counterpart Parag Agrawal did not depose in an ongoing litigation despite earlier filings in a US court, triggering speculations.
According to a CNN report, citing sources, the dates listed in deposition notices filed with the court are “not always the dates that the two sides agree to officially begin the questioning”.
The absence of Musk and Agrawal marks another twist in the fierce legal case that is slated to begin in the Delaware Court of Chancery in the US from October 17.
The testimony of both “is considered central in the litigation over Musk’s deal to buy — and then his attempt to get out of buying — Twitter for 44 billion,” the report said late on Monday.
Earlier court filings revealed that Musk’s deposition was slated for September 26-27 and may run into September 28 if needed.

Twitter whistleblower Peiter Zatko described the company as a Wild West of unsecured data whose management consistently chose revenue and subscriber growth over security and privacy.

Last month, a former Twitter employee was found guilty of spying on Saudi dissidents using the social media platform to pass their personal information to an aide of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Zatko, known as “Mudge,” a hacker who served as Twitter’s head of security until he was fired in early 2022, said some Twitter employees were also concerned that the Chinese government could collect user data.

Elon Musk cited the claims of Twitter whistleblower Peiter Zatko in a new filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission Tuesday, Aug. 2 as he attempts to back out of his deal to buy the social media company for 44 billion.
Zatko, Twitter’s former head of security, claimed in a recent whistleblower complaint that the social media platform had major security deficiencies and that it prioritized user growth over combatting spam (his allegations were first covered in The Washington Post and CNN). In their latest exchange of legal fire, Twitter has rejected new claims from billionaire Elon Musk that a whistleblower’s claims about the company give him grounds to exit his proposed 44 billion takeover.
Citing an effort in July by Musk to wriggle out of the deal, Twitter lawyer William Savitt described Musk’s newest pronouncement “invalid and wrongful.”
Musk, the CEO of Tesla and founder of SpaceX, offered to buy Twitter last April, but the transaction has been troubled from the beginning. Musk has ramped up his frequent criticisms of the social media firm and a legal tussle, predictably, has ensued. The parties are due to head to trial in October.
The merger agreement pegs the acquisition price at 54.20 a share. Twitter stock slipped a fraction at the start of today’s trading to 39.90. The company’s board pursued alternative offers to Musk’s but came up empty, so the...

It’s take two for Elon Musk’s legal team, as they seek to terminate the billionaire’s 44 billion deal to buy Twitter.
In a letter to Twitter leadership disclosed in a securities filing Tuesday, Musk’s team lays out a new case for why the deal needs to called off, based on revelations from Twitter whistleblower Peiter “Mudge” Zatko, the company’s former chief security officer.
Zatko alleges that Twitter misled government regulators and the company’s own board about the prevalence of spam on the platform, as well as its own security protocols and internal reporting. He spoke out a week ago in interviews with The Washington Post and CNN.
“The Zatko Complaint alleges far-reaching misconduct at Twitter — all of which was disclosed to Twitter’s directors and senior executives, including (CEO) Parag Agrawal — that is likely to have severe consequences for Twitter’s business,...
