This time around, he'll be facing off with something brand new for the television franchise: merpeople.
Originally, Sirens of the Deep was announced with a release date of 2024. The move to early 2025 isn't wholly surprising, since Netflix has remained relatively quiet about the movie throughout the year. But not anymore!

Netflix today announced The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep animated film will launch on February 11, 2025 on the streamer. The date, along with an exclusive clip introduced by Doug Cockle, voice of Geralt of Rivia from the Witcher video game series and the upcoming film, was revealed today during Netflix’s Geeked Week.
In the film, Geralt of Rivia (Cockle), a mutated monster hunter, is hired to investigate a series of attacks in a seaside village and finds himself drawn into a centuries-old conflict between humans and merpeople. He must count on friends — old and new — to solve the mystery before the hostilities between the two kingdoms escalate into all-out war.
In the clip (which you can watch above), Joey Batey as Jaskier also is heard, along with Cockle’s Geralt. Anya Chalotra also is returning from the live-action The Witcher series to voice Yennefer in the film, with Christina Wren...

Warning: This article contains spoilers for The Witcher Season 2.
After watching the dramatic and bloody finale of The Witcher Season 2, you’re probably curious about the new terrifying foes the series introduced: the spectral riders of the Wild Hunt. They certainly look impressive in their intricate black armor and custom weapons, but who are they and what do they want? Grab a seat by the fire, and we’ll tell you their chilling tale.
The existence of the Wild Hunt, seven ghostly figures on skeletal horses that charge across the sky, has been subtly referenced since the very first episode of the series. Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich said in the official aftershow, The Witcher: Unlocked, that she began foreshadowing them early because she wanted to make them appropriately scary. In the show’s pilot, King Eist Tuirseach mentions seeing the Wraiths of Mörhogg riding across the southern sky and notes...

It wouldn’t be our show if we didn’t push our family of characters to their absolute limit — stay tuned to see how the story ends.”

British actor Henry Cavill portrayed the character of Geralt of Rivia for Netflix’s fantasy show The Witcher from 2019 to 2023. Created by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, the show is based on a book series of the same name by Andrzej Sapkowski. The story explores the legend of Geralt of Rivia, Yennefer of Vengerberg, and Princess Ciri.
Upon the release of the show, it received a positive response from the audience and the critics with some hiccups during the second and third seasons. Cavill’s performance as Geralt of Rivia was highly lauded by the audience and critics with them mentioning that he brings brawny charisma to the series as well as the character. The actor had a very specific reason to play the character on-screen.

The author behind Netflix’s The Witcher franchise had some words about his relationship with the streamer, or lack thereof.
Polish fantasy writer Andrzej Sapkowski says Netflix “never listened” to his ideas for the hit adaptation of his novels and games.
Sapkowski was asked at Vienna Comic-Con last week if he’s given Netflix any feedback and he replied with a laugh, “Maybe, I gave them some ideas, but they never listened to me. But it’s normal.” He then broke into an impression of a Netflix executive and said dismissively, “Who’s this? It’s a writer, it’s nobody.”
Netflix had no comment on the remarks. But the Witcher team has had a rough time the past couple years in terms of its relationship with the show’s passionate fan community, which has protested many of the show’s deviations from Sapkowski’s source material.

There's almost always some kind of fan outcry when the appearance of characters are changed when a work is adapted from one medium to another, and the depictions of the characters in Netflix's "The Witcher" were not immune. The Netflix series is based on the fantasy novels by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The novels have also been adapted into a popular video game series, giving some fans a predetermined idea of what the characters should look or sound like. Fans, especially gamers, can be extremely protective of their version of a particular canon, but it turns out that casting director Sophie Holland planned on pushing a few buttons when she put together the cast of "The Witcher."
In an interview with Variety, Holland explained that she was interested in challenging people's ideas about standards of beauty with her casting decisions, specifically regarding the powerful sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg, played by Anya Chalotra.

When Henry Cavill was cast as Geralt of Rivia in "The Witcher," not everyone could initially picture the darkly handsome leading man as the White Wolf. That included showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, who actually auditioned 207 other actors before going with Cavill.
A known video game enthusiast who will soon star in and executive produce a "Warhammer" series for Amazon, Cavill was eager to be a part of "The Witcher" even before there was a script. As Lauren Schmidt Hissrich told Gizmodo, "As soon as it was announced it was going to be a show, [Cavill] contacted his agents who contacted Netflix and said he wants to be part of this. And Netflix was like, 'We don't have a show yet, there's nothing to be a part of!'"

With "The Witcher" season 3 coming to an end, Henry Cavill will bid adieu to the character of Geralt of Rivia. Five years ago, the actor lobbied for the lead role in Netflix's adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski's "The Witcher" book series, citing a love for the novels and the video games which they spawned. Since then, the "Man of Steel" star has dedicated himself to portraying the titular monster hunter, displaying his characteristic commitment by testing his physical limits and suffering some near career-ending injuries in the process.
By the time filming began on season 3, Cavill had basically become an unofficial stunt coordinator, not only performing all Geralt's action scenes himself, but helping design the choreography and generally demonstrating the innate drive to push himself that served him so well on previous projects like "Mission: Impossible — Fallout." That penchant for going above and beyond physically was mirrored...

When I first read about the desert conditions in which Freya Allan filmed the seventh episode of "The Witcher" season 3, I thought it had to be a typo. Sure, "Out of the Fire, Into the Frying Pan," the hour that sees Ciri portal to the Korath Desert and wander there for days looked brutal, but how hot could it have actually been during filming? It turns out, the answer is disgustingly hot.
In an interview with Numero Magazine, Allan revealed that temperatures in Morroco reached 46 degrees Celsius during filming, which is equivalent to nearly 115 degrees Fahrenheit. While Ciri was enduring the desert heat, surviving by (among other things) eating a lizard before ultimately being captured by bounty hunters, Allan and the show's crew were going through their own extreme situation. "We were battling with 45 degrees," she told Digital Spy, adding that "it was genuinely a challenge for me, not just Ciri.

As part of his truly bizarre attempts to remain in the now-defunct Dceu, Henry Cavill announced he would be leaving "The Witcher" after its third season. Previously, the Superman actor reportedly asked his agents to get him a meeting with the showrunners, in order to help him land the lead role in Netflix's adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski's "The Witcher" novel series. Since he got his wish, Cavill has delivered three solid seasons as Geralt of Rivia, slaying monsters across the continent and forming a bond with Freya Allan's Ciri and Anya Chalotra's Yennefer.
Alas, Cavill's White Wolf will not return following the end of season 3. In season 4, Geralt will be played by Liam Hemsworth, who has, in his own words, some "big boots to fill." But perhaps not quite as big as he'd initially expected. When "The Witcher" returns for its fourth run of episodes, instead...

Henry Cavill might be bowing out of "The Witcher" prematurely, but you can't say the man didn't suffer for the show. The former Superman actor has always demonstrated a remarkable commitment to the physical aspects of his job, which he really refined as Geralt of Rivia on the Netflix series. In fact, Cavill basically became an unofficial stunt coordinator on "The Witcher" season 3, bringing a focused approach to his final season as the White Wolf that saw him designing fight sequences and, of course, performing lots of the action himself.
Previously, the now 40-year-old demonstrated this unusually committed approach on "Mission: Impossible — Fallout," where he was the only other actor that could keep up with the king of doing his own stunts, Tom Cruise. You might have read Cavill quoted before, explaining his "mental stamina" to The Hollywood Reporter and saying of a particularly challenging helicopter stunt, "What you...

Immortality sucks. It's the one thing fantasy stories pretty much universally agree upon, and it's something Geralt of Rivia in "The Witcher" (played by Henry Cavill for the first three seasons) knows a fair deal about. Witchers themselves aren't immortal and many die on the job battling monsters long before old age gets them, but they can live an inordinately long time thanks to the alchemical process they're subjected to as part of their training. This procedure also renders them sterile, so the only family they can have are those of the found variety -- and seeing as Witchers can outlive most beings in the show's setting, aka The Continent (save for mages and elves), they naturally tend to prefer a solitary lifestyle.
The Continent's a big place, though, so unless they really enjoy walking for days on end (even Frodo Baggins isn't that high on cardio), Witchers tend to...

This post contains spoilers for "The Witcher" and "The Witcher: Blood Origin."
Now that the third season of Netflix's "The Witcher" has drawn to a close, it's safe to say that the prequel miniseries "The Witcher: Blood Origin" is more of a supplementary text than an essential spinoff. For the most part, the story of seven ancient warriors who brought about the Conjunction of the Spheres, leading to the collision of elven, monster, and human worlds, hasn't really come up in the flagship show's storyline. There are a few exceptions, though, including a moment in the penultimate episode of season 3 that sees a starving, hallucinating Ciri (Freya Allan) at the mercy of the spirit of the controversial rebel princess Falka.
When Falka (Hiftu Quasem) takes over Ciri's psyche, presenting her with visions of what her world would look like if she were to give in to her fire magic completely,...

Of all the supporting characters who fill out the sprawling cast of "The Witcher," Tissaia de Vries (MyAnna Buring) might be the most underrated. Yennefer's mother figure also served as Aretuza's headmistress, a strong and sometimes exacting influence on generations of girls who grew up into powerful, world-changing women. That legacy wasn't enough to keep her going after she failed to save her students from the violent aftermath of a coup attempt or stop her lover Vilgefortz (Mahesh Jadu) from going after Ciri (Freya Allan). In the season 3 finale of Netflix's adaptation of "The Witcher" book series, Tissaia commits suicide, breaking the heart of her former students -- especially Yen.
Tissaia's death comes just after Buring's most heart-wrenching performance to date, in which Yennefer finds her mentor obsessing over the movements of the opposing armies after accidentally instigating the attack...

All eyes were on Henry Cavill as his final season of “The Witcher” premiered Thursday on Netflix.

The Witcher season 3 will be split into two batches of episodes, with the first batch reaching the Netflix streaming service on June 29th and the rest being released on July 27th. The show is inspired by a series of novels written by Andrzej Sapkowski, and a lot of fans were disappointed that season 2 strayed away from the source material. As the premiere of season 3 approaches, showrunner Lauren Schmidt-Hissrich has said that this season is going to be more faithful to Sapkowski’s work than the previous one.

And so what we try to do and what I’ve always talked to Sapkowski about is keeping the tone of the books the same. And...
