When the original band decided to break up, they broke off into two
other popular bands: Jefferson Starship and Hot Tuna.
The band appeared, and headlined, at the very first Isle of Wight festival in 1968.
This also happened to be their debut appearance in Britain. Also on the Bill were Arthur Brown, The Pretty Things, The Plastic Penny, Smile (later to become Queen, T. Rex and Fairport Convention performing. The admission price was £1.25p and had an attendance of 10,000 - 15,000.
Skip Spence died of lung cancer at age 52 on April 16, 1999.
Jefferson Airplane were awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Recording at 6752 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California.
