Mudvayne kicked off their first full-fledged headlining tour in 14 years at the iTHINK Financial Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Thursday night (July 20th). The outing, dubbed “The Psychotherapy Sessions,” features support from Coal Chamber, Gwar, Nonpoint, and Butcher Babies, with tickets available here.
Mudvayne reunited in 2021 after going on hiatus in 2010. While this tour marks Mudvayne’s first run as a lone headliner since 2009, the band did co-headline the “Freaks on Parade Tour” with Rob Zombie in 2022.
The Thursday night set featured Mudvayne performing 15 songs, including seven tunes from their classic 2000 album, L.D. 50. In recent months, frontman Chad Gray has dropped hints on social media that new music is in the works.
Meanwhile, for Coal Chamber, this marks their first proper tour in eight years, following a couple of festival gigs in recent weeks. Dez Fafara and company performed 12 songs, including four each from their 1997 self-titled debut and 2002’s Dark Days.

Metal supergroup Hellyeah unveiled a devastating new track, “333,” from their next album, which will be their last to feature late drummer Vinnie Paul. The as-yet-untitled LP is set to arrive June 28th.
Paul’s drumming is the driving force behind “333” as he hammers out a relentless barrage that carries the guitars and punctuates the vocals of singer Chad Gray. The track also arrives with a video in which Hellyeah perform the cut in a red-lit club while Gray belts the lyrics as he walks down the street.

Over the years Mudvayne has been a complex band to figure out. Kudos for having the confidence in themselves as musicians to ditch the early-on gimmickry inflating the aura of their first few albums. However, on the past two outings for these guys, Lost And Found and The New Game, Mudvayne shunned more than their costumes.
While Mudvayne literally pounds the tar out of their live sets, their last couple albums took noticeable strides towards Aor rock-friendly meadows and dangerously settled into a repeated script of maudlin pop rock. Well-written tunes, yes, but for a band of Mudvayne’s undeniable caliber, these guys were keeping their thumbs pressed far too hard on the trigger. Settling for a nestled spot between 3 Doors Down and Trapt on the radio playlist is good for keeping their machine afloat. As far as creating memorably acute and expertly-flung prog metal well-hinted with earlier efforts such as L.
