Dubai, July 5 (Ians) England opener Tammy Beaumont, Australia off-spin all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner and West Indies skipper Hayley Matthews have earned nominations for the Icc Women’s Player of the Month award for June 2023.
Tammy last won an Icc Player of the Month crown in February 2021 and the right-handed batter lit up the June 2023 with her record-breaking innings of 208 in the one-off women’s Ashes Test in Nottingham. She was the shining light for England as they fell to defeat at the hands of an Ashleigh-inspired Australia.
Her mammoth score came from 331 balls and kept the home side in contention throughout. The feat meant she became the first English woman to register a Test double hundred, and just the second woman from her country to hit a hundred in all three formats of the international game.
On the other hand, Ashleigh again finds herself among the candidates for the prize...

Mumbai, the current table-toppers, are coming off their first loss of the competition in their previous match against the Warriorz, while Delhi come in after losing to the Gujarat Giants by 11 runs.
“No real reason (for bowling first). Just going to see how it goes. Same team, the same combination as the previous game.

With losses in all of its five matches so far, the Smriti Mandhana-led side are under immense pressure to win the rest of its three games and hope for other results to go their way for making a miraculous entry into the playoffs.
Left-handed Smriti, also the opener for Rcb, has been a shadow of her fluent self with the bat, making only 88 runs in five innings averaging 17.60 at a strike rate of 117.33. Former India wicketkeeper-batter Saba Karim believes one big knock from Smriti can give the turnaround Rcb need in their Wpl campaign.
"As a captain, you would be hoping to turn this around and I am sure such big players, they have a pride attached to their performances and it’s the first time in India, she’s playing for a franchise."

The latest chapter in Mumbai’s scintillating run was added on Thursday when they bowled out Delhi Capitals for just 105, and chased down the total in 15 overs to complete a hat-trick of victories. In the competition, Mumbai is the only side to take all 30 opposition wickets from the three games it has played so far, with the batters smashing tremendous knocks.
Former India cricketer Reema Malhotra believes Mumbai assembling multiple match winners through the player auction held last month, has made them a complete side in the tournament.
"Before Harmanpreet Kaur got the team, Mumbai Indians had done their homework. Like, I had a chat with Jhulan Goswami about the preparation done for the player auction and what sort of homework is done. If you have a look at their team before the matches happened, you can see it’s a team which has got the maximum all-rounders and that too quality ones.

On Thursday, she took out Shafali Verma, Meg Lanning and Jemimah Rodrigues in a game-changing spell to set the base for an eight-wicket victory for Mumbai Indians.
“She’s jumped significantly ahead of Hayley Matthews, her teammate. She bowls stump-to-stump, and she changes the angles at which she bowls. She bowled with the cap and I don’t think she wants to take it off.”

Mumbai, March 7 (Ians) The Mumbai Indians enjoyed a memorable night at the Brabourne Stadium here as the team won their second straight match of the Women’s Premier League (Wpl) by nine wickets against the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Rcb’s modest total of 155 runs ultimately proved paltry for the duo of Hayley Matthews and Nat Sciver-Brunt, as Mi chased down the target in only 14.2 overs.
Matthews also picked up 3/28. Notably, Mi’s left arm spinner Saika Ishaque claimed 2/26 that helped her become the holder of the Wpl Purple Cap, with a total of six wickets in two matches.
Parthiv Patel, a Wpl expert for Sports18 and JioCinema, praised Ishaque’s efforts and said she may get the opportunity to debut for India soon.

Mumbai, March 7 (Ians) After leading Mumbai Indians to a nine-wicket victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore in Wpl 2023 at Brabourne Stadium, off-spin all-rounder Hayley Matthews credited the freedom given by the franchise, which in turn has given her lots of confidence.
Hayley, picked in the acceleration round at her base price in the player auction last month after going unsold in the first round, dismissed Bangalore skipper Smriti Mandhana, Heather Knight and Richa Ghosh to be Mumbai’s best bowler with figures of 3-28, before smashing a stunning 77 not out off 38 balls to give her team second big win in a row and top spot in the points table.
“There wasn’t much difference, probably I was able to bat a bit longer today, but I think the freedom in this Mumbai Indians team has given me plenty of confidence. They’re going well at the moment, and the ball is coming on nicely.

Mumbai, March 6 (Ians) After registering their second straight win of the Women’s Premier League (Wpl) with a nine-wicket victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai Indians skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was pleased with how her team could keep their opponents to a below-par score.
Bangalore had a flying start as they reached 39/0 after electing to bat first. But double strikes from Hayley Matthews and Saika Ishaque meant they were reduced to 43/4. It took decent cameos from Kanika Ahuja, Richa Ghosh, Shreyanka Patil and Megan Schutt to take Bangalore past 150.
For Mumbai, Hayley was the standout bowler with 3/28, while Saika and Amelia Kerr took two wickets each as the spinners took seven wickets combined. Pacers Nat Sciver-Brunt and Pooja Vastrakar also took a wicket each.
“I think batting was the same, the bowling we did was better in the first game than today. We still did well to keep (Bangalore) to a small score.

After winning the toss and opting to bowl first, Tanuja Kanwar in her first over sent Yastika back cheaply. But, the two experienced internationals, Matthews and Sciver-Brunt were in their elements and batted brilliantly.
Matthews and Sciver-Brunt got their side off to a good start in the powerplay. Wareham got the better of the Sciver-Brunt and right after that, Matthews also missed out on a fifty.
However, the real carnage came after the 10th over. Harmanpreet was on a rampage from the get go and sent the bowlers to the cleaners.

Paarl (South Africa), Feb 19 (Ians) Former champions West Indies kept their slender semifinal hopes alive with a nail-biting three-run win over Pakistan that went down to the last ball.
Bidding to build on their win over Ireland, West Indies, who won the title in 2016 in India, opted to bat and posted a below-par 116/6 at Boland Park here.
Skipper Hayley Matthews took key Pakistan wickets early and late in the innings to inspire her side to a dramatic victory. Matthews and Rashada Williams flayed 15 from the bowling of Aiman Anwer in the fourth over but navigated the powerplay in a cagey fashion.
Matthews perished late in the powerplay when she tried to lift Fatima Sana over the midwicket boundary but only found the hands of Sidra Ameen. It was a massive wicket that sparked wild celebrations but not a flurry of scalps as Shemaine Campbelle joined Williams and the pair put on 40 at a run-a-ball.

East London (South Africa), Jan 31 (Ians) After a comfortable eight-wicket victory over West Indies in the women’s T20I tri-series, India captain Harmanpreet Kaur was delighted over Jemimah Rodrigues getting some runs as they continue to prepare for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup.
India completed a paltry chase of 95 against West Indies in the 14th over with eight wickets in hand, with Jemimah remaining unbeaten on 42 off 39 balls after opening the batting. Harmanpreet herself was unbeaten on 32 off 23 balls.
“Really happy that Jemi (Jemimah Rodrigues) got some runs. And it’s always good when you are getting runs and I’m happy about my performance. Going forward, we have to work on things that didn’t work, but the batting was good.”
“We bowled well, still we could have done better than this. A target less than 100 was okay but I was looking at less than 80,” she said after the match ended.
