Exclusive: Netflix has enlisted Yon Motskin (Encounters) to direct an untitled documentary feature on Connecticut native Nathan Carman, a young man who, after a fishing trip with his mother Linda off the coast of New England, survives a week on a life raft while she is lost at sea.
As highlighted in the doc, the sensational incident renews interest in the unsolved murder of Carman’s wealthy grandfather years earlier, spurring a media frenzy, a war over a vast family fortune, multiple investigations and ultimately federal charges against Carman for murder on the high seas. He died by suicide last summer while awaiting trial in connection to the death of his mother.
With unprecedented access to family, friends and investigators, the film currently in production is a nautical thriller that explores intimate human mysteries about family, greed, perception, mental health and the unpredictable mind of an enigmatic young man.
Motskin is producing alongside Mary-Jane Mitchell.

The final episode of Encounters, Lights over Fukushima, is a blend of scientific evidence and the testimonies of people who have been a part of the incident. This Netflix original explores the events surrounding the hundreds of UFO sightings in Fukushima, followed by the nuclear plant meltdown. The beliefs of certain people in Japan regarding the shining lights in the sky being the souls of the people who passed away stand strong to date. The conflict between some traditional beliefs in Japan and the scientific and historical evidence stating otherwise has been exhibited in great depth. Encounters Episode 4 is an amalgamation of several points of view and beliefs of people regarding the strange aerial occurrences, presented skillfully by Yon Motskin. Let us dive deep into what the experts and the believers have to say about the occurrences!

The third episode of Encounters explores the experiences of the people in a tiny Welsh village, Broad Haven. Dating back to 1977, the US observed more than 450 sightings of UFOs and strange beings coming out of them. This episode has been well organized and takes us one step closer to believing in the existence of extraterrestrial beings. With a reliance on several pieces of evidence and testimonies that match each other, there is a very slim chance of all the encounters being hoaxes. The documentary, under the direction of Yon Motskin, has bowled us over with its weird facts and interviews with people who have witnessed something that is beyond our belief. We are yet to explore what the strange world of the aliens holds in store for us. Let us dive right into the incidents for a better understanding of the message that could have been trying to be passed...

The second episode of Encounters has shown a clear segmentation between the believers and the non-believers. Director Yon Motskin has done a great job in creating a documentary based on lots of evidence and testimonies. Both sides of the coin of the strange aerial occurrences have been presented, but it is completely up to us whether to believe or not. The original series enlightened us with a lot of real-life evidence on aliens similar to documentaries like The Real Possibility of Mapping Alien Planets, First Contact: An Alien Encounter, and There Was Nobody Here We Knew, among others. The real-life people and their testimonies are what make the 50-minute episode profoundly credible.

Netflix’s Encounters Episode 1, currently streaming on Netflix, is an original documentary directed by Yon Motskin. The several mysterious sightings in Texas perplex the townsfolk, and they narrate their own experiences. As we are taken through their observations, we wonder whether whatever they have reported is true. This series is sure to garner a lot of believers and certain skeptical gazes on the contrary, as the matter that has been brought out still lies beyond our comprehension. Is the government trying to hide something? If UFOs exist in reality, why do we have such little knowledge about them? These aspects are something that we still do not have any answers to. Let us see if we can fish something significant out of this documentary that would leverage our knowledge of extraterrestrials.

In 1997, 39 members of the Heaven’s Gate cult committed mass suicide in San Diego, CA. They believed in doing so that they would reach an extraterrestrial spacecraft that was trailing the Hale–Bopp as it passed by.
I remember seeing reports of this on the news and seeing the videos that were released of the cult leader Marshall Applewhite. That guy freaked me the hell out! Well, HBO Max is producing a four-part documentary series about Heaven’s Gate and it will focus on the fame, fortune and power from Marshall Applewhite.
The series is being developed by CNN Original Series, and it will explore “the infamous religious movement and the stranger-than-fiction circumstances that culminated in the biggest mass suicide to ever take place on U.S. soil.”
The series will be directed and executive produced by Clay Tweel (Gleason) and this is a story that I’ve been fascinated with for years.

We usually write about the actors who have joined some project, or who are still in negotiations, or are set to star in some movie…
This time we’ll just say, they are all interested! But that still doesn’t mean they’re signed on. That just means we’re here to have a little chat about their possible roles, and they, (according to Pajiba) are:
Legendary Dustin Hoffman, who is interested in playing the crime boss in The Contortionist’s Handbook.
