The release of revered Indian filmmaker Mani Ratnam’s hugely anticipated epic adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy’s classic Tamil-language novel “Ponniyin Selvan” is the realization of his childhood dream.
One of India’s most celebrated filmmakers whose films include “Nayakan,” “Bombay” and “Iruvar,” Ratnam read the novel when he was in high school and wanted to make it ever since. Post the tremendous critical and commercial success of “Nayakan” (1987), when that film’s lead Kamal Haasan wanted to make another film with Ratnam, the filmmaker considered “Ponniyin Selvan,” but the stars did not align at that time.
Ratnam’s last film, “Chekka Chivantha Vaanam” (2018), was co-produced by his Madras Talkies and Subaskaran’s Lyca Productions (“2.0”).
“After ‘Chekka Chivantha Vaanam,’ it happened – when Lyca asked what I was planning to do next, I told them, not planning anything, but I would like to do ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ and Subaskaran said yes – and that’s when it started,...

Movie Review: "Yaarukku Theriyum"; Star Cast: Sanjana Singh, Jayaprakash, Riyaz Khan and Kalabhavan Mani; Director: Ganeshan Kamaraj; Rating: ** - partly engaging.
Along the lines of Hollywood movies such as "Nine Dead" and "Saw", "Yaarukku Theriyum", a crime-thriller, would've definitely created an impact only if the director had opted for a familiar and experienced star cast. Despite an engaging plot, the film struggles to keep you hooked and eventually graduates as one sans any thrills.

Timergarah, Pakistan — Hundreds of protesters demonstrating against an anti-Islam film torched a press club and a government building in northwest Pakistan on Monday, sparking clashes with police that left at least one person dead. Rioting demonstrators battled with police outside a U.S. military base in Afghanistan and the U.S. Embassy in Indonesia.
In Lebanon, the Shiite militant group Hezbollah planned a large protest in Beirut on Monday, after its leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah said in a televised speech that the U.S. must be held accountable for the film and protesters should also demand Arab governments pressure Washington to put a stop to it.
Monday's unrest marked, at least for the moment, a shift to Asia in the week-long violence sparked by the film. Arab countries saw a third day of relative calm after multiple attacks on U.S. diplomatic posts, including one that killed the U.S.

A lingering, soft romantic story has been told in a lacklustre manner in ‘Yathumagi’, robbing it of the beautiful feeling that usually stays with viewers after watching a movie of this genre.
In the film, Sachin plays an advertisement photographer who belongs to a rich family. But his problem is that.
