English playwright and manager noted for his attempt to meld English
and Italian operatic conventions. William Collier appointed Hill
manager of Drury Lane at the age of 24. Whether he actually wrote the
libretto of "Rinaldo" in English or designed the plot for 'Giacomo Rossi' and
then translated Rossi's libretto is uncertain.
