“Mindhunter” is going on ice at Netflix.
Variety has confirmed that the show’s cast members have been released from their contracts. The streamer is not ruling out a third season of the series, however, depending on executive producer David Fincher’s schedule.
Fincher is currently working on directing the Netflix film “Mank” as well as executive producing the second season of “Love, Death, and Robots.” It was also recently announced that Fincher is working on a “Chinatown” prequel series with Robert Towne, who wrote the original film.
“Mank” is biopic of screenwriter Herman Mankiewicz, perhaps best known for his work on the Oscar-winning screenplay of “Citizen Kane.” Gary Oldman is attached to star along with Lily Collins, Amanda Seyfried, and Tuppence Middleton.

(Some major spoilers ahead for season 2 of “Mindhunter” on Netflix)
After season 1 of “Mindhunter” spent most of its time outside work — that is, in scenes that aren’t focused on the FBI’s study of serial killers — with Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff), season 2 goes a different way. This time around, the Netflix series focuses very little on Holden’s personal life, instead spending a lot more time with the other two main members of his team, Dr. Wendy Carr (Anna Torv) and Bill Tench (Holt McCallany)
For Bill, his personal story revolves around an incident with his son, Brian (Zachary Scott Ross), which threatens to tear the Tench family to pieces. Early in the season, the corpse of a toddler is found in a house that is being sold by Bill’s wife Nancy (Stacey Roca), who has started working as a realtor. After a fairly short investigation, the local...

Mild spoilers for “Mindhunter” season two below.
One very unexpected reaction to the second season of Netflix’s “Mindhunter” came from a subset of fans who declared FBI agent Bill Tench, played by Holt McCallany, a sex symbol.
Mel Magazine called Tench “The Unlikely Hearthrob” of “Mindhunter.” Clips like this compilation of McCallany speaking French, and this Tench supercut, have been widely shared on social media. Refinery29 writer Elana Nicolaou even dubbed the fandom “Tench wenches.“
That’s a lot of love for a character McCallany himself describes as a “chainsmoker with a buzzcut,” and while the actor says he’s “very flattered,” he also tells TheWrap the whole thing has him “deeply surprised.”
“Where were all these young ladies when I needed them?” McCallany joked.

This post contains full spoilers for Mindhunter Season Two, which Netflix released on Friday.
“Seems to me, everything you know about serial killers has been gleaned from the ones who’ve been caught,” convicted murderer Ed Kemper (Cameron Britton) tells Mindhunter heroes Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Bill Tench (Holt McCallany) midway through the Netflix drama’s second season. Kemper is trying to insert himself into one of Ford and Tench’s ongoing investigations, but the line also plays as something of a meta comment on Mindhunter Season One. The “Mindhunter” Season 2 trailer dropped Monday, giving fans of the Netflix thriller series a slightly closer look at the show’s version of Charles Manson. Except you might not want to look too closely at him, seeing as it appears he’s sensitive to the fact he’s small — “like, really small.”
The teaser shows FBI agents Bill Tench (Holt McCallany) and Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) interviewing serial killer Edmund Kemper (Cameron Britton) as they gather information in an attempt to solve the Atlanta Child Murders, a series of killings between 1979 and 1981 that targeted African-American children, teenagers and adults. He advises them on how best to deal with their next killer interview: Manson (played Damon Herriman).
“One more thing, Manson is small, like, really small — try not to stare,” he says in a voiceover, as we see Manson’s figure start to come into focus in the shadows of a prison.

Netflix’s interactive press site has released the first-look images for Season 2 of “Mindhunter,” which will focus on the Atlanta Child Murders.
The series, from David Fincher, covers the early days of the FBI’s criminal psychology and criminal profiling division, delving into the minds of murderers to see what makes them tick. Fincher will executive produce and direct.
Premiering Aug. 16, Fincher recently revealed the focus of Season 2 will be on the series of killings between 1979 and 1981 that targeted African-American children, teenagers and adults in Atlanta, Georgia. Wayne Williams, who is currently serving a life sentence of the deaths of two Atlanta men in 1981, will play a central role in the season. Police believe he’s responsible for 23 of those murders. He maintains his innocence.
