Three cities have emerged as the finalists for a new Sundance Film Festival location in 2027: Cincinnati, Ohio; Boulder, Colo.; and Salt Lake City/Park City, Utah, the Sundance Institute announced on Thursday.
The three cities will be moving forward into the concluding review process to determine a long-term host for the Sundance Film Festival. A decision is expected in the first quarter of 2025, and the Institute will announce its selection of the host city sometime after the 2025 Festival has concluded.
The Festival will remain in Park City for 2025 and ’26. It will then transition to the next host city in 2027 and subsequent years.
“As we move to the next phase in our search for a sustainable home for the Sundance Film Festival, we see great promise and potential in Boulder, Cincinnati, and Salt Lake/Park City. Each has shown us the blend of exciting possibilities, values and logistics needed to produce a vibrant,...

Sundance is a step closer to finding a new (or familiar) home for the film festival in 2027 and beyond.
The Sundance Institute has confirmed the three cities moving on to the finalist phase of its review process to secure a long-term host location: Boulder, Colorado; Cincinnati, Ohio; and Salt Lake City/Park City, Utah. Up next, those cities will move into a “concluding review process” with a decision expected in the first quarter of next year, following the 2025 edition of the festival. Sundance remains in Park City for 2025 and 2026.
It’s important to note that in distributing the finalists’ locations, Salt Lake City received first billing over Park City, the longtime home for the festival, and it was no accident. The bid received by the festival would move the fest’s central headquarters to Salt Lake, with only elements taking place in Park City. There have long been rumblings and...

Sundance has narrowed its list of finalists down from six potential host cities to just three and now says a final decision will come after next year’s Sundance Film Festival in Q1 2025.
The three finalist locations for Sundance beginning in 2027 are: Park City/Salt Lake City, Utah; Boulder, Colorado; and Cincinnati, Ohio.
After announcing a group of six finalists back in July, a selection committee with the Sundance Institute over the last two months conducted site visits of all six locations and has now settled on these three based on ethos, equity values, infrastructure, and capabilities to host Sundance, as well as how they hope to foster a community of indie filmmakers in the future.
For now Sundance will stay put primarily in Park City both in 2025 and 2026, and the festival will begin its transition to the new host starting in 2027.

The International Olympics Committee (Ioc) has set the French Alps followed by Salt Lake City as the host locations for the Olympic and Paralympic winter games in 2030 and 2034 respectively.
Ioc members voted on the bids during their 142nd Ioc session in Paris ahead of the 2024 summer Olympics which kick off in the French capital on Friday.
The 2030 and 2034 tournaments will be preceded by the 2026 Cortina-Milan winter games in Italy, while the next edition of the summer Olympics will be in L.A. in 2028.
Ioc President Thomas Bach alluded to Salt Lake City and Utah’s staging of the 2002 Winter Olympics as he announced the successful bid.
“Salt Lake City and Utah are long-time friends of the Olympic Movement, and we are confident that they will organise exceptional Olympic and Paralympic Games, just as they did years ago. The legacy of 2002 is tangibly and passionately alive in Utah. The legacy of 2034 starts today.

In April, the Sundance Institute announced its intentions to consider alternative locations for its film festival outside of Park City, Utah starting the year 2027 and beyond. Since then, multiple bids have been entered by cities hoping to take over hosting duties including huge metropolises like Atlanta, San Francisco, and Chicago, and even smaller cities like Buffalo and Santa Fe. However, Utah isn’t going down without a fight. This week it was reiterated that the Sundance Institute is allowing the state of Utah to go forward as a viable option for the festival, though a specific city has not been selected yet.
Plans to keep the festival in Utah were spearheaded by state leaders Gov. Spencer Cox, Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall, Park City Mayor Nann Worel, Utah Film Commission Director Virginia Pearce and Park City Chamber of Commerce CEO Jennifer Wesselhoff, all operating under the banner of the...
