At a dinner celebrating Thom Browne’s 20th anniversary and his just-launched capsule collection at Saks Fifth Avenue, the designer told the guests — who included Diane Keaton, Janelle Monáe, Logan Lerman and Danai Gurira — that the night felt like a homecoming.
“L.A. is almost my second home … I do feel like I had five really formative years here that I still hold dear to this day,” Browne explained during a toast at Mr. Chow restaurant in Beverly Hills Thursday night.
Years before he launched his label, the designer of now-iconic suits that have redefined suiting had trekked to Los Angeles while searching for a professional passion. The late interior designer Paul Fortune, whose clients included Sofia Coppola and Marc Jacobs, befriended Browne and later offered his guesthouse as a residence. It was there, adjacent to a pool under the California sunshine, that Browne began to contemplate his future.

Whoever first said that distance makes the heart grow fonder might have been onto something. Singer-songwriters Del Water Gap and Holly Humberstone have experienced first-hand the gravitational pull of oceans separating them from the people they want to be closest to — and they poured those memories into their latest single “Cigarettes & Wine.”
“‘Cigarettes & Wine’ is an ode to a transatlantic long-distance relationship,” Del Water Gap shared in a statement. “It’s about finally getting to catch a moment with the person you’ve been missing the most, and the threads...

Del Water Gap feels a quiet sense of comfort sitting at the Flower Shop. The restaurant on New York’s Lower East Side hasn’t opened yet, but the room rattles with movement as half a dozen people move inventory and polish glasses. In a few hours, the musician born S. Holden Jaffe will perform for 200 fans from a tiny stage in a corner of the basement lounge here. It couldn’t fit all 7,000 people who requested access to the free event, but he almost prefers it this way. There...

As a former child dancer, maybe it shouldn’t surprise anyone that 21-year-old Talia Ryder moved so gracefully into singing, directing and acting. But don’t make her choose just one. “I really like making things, whether that’s acting, directing, choreography or all of the above,” she says.
Since her 2020 film debut in the Sundance abortion drama “Never Rarely Sometimes Always,” the Indie Spirit nominee has brought her naturalistic acting to “West Side Story,” “Master,” “Do Revenge” and “Hello, Goodbye and Everything in Between.” She returns to the festival circuit with “Dumb Money,” Craig Gillespie’s comedy about the 2021 GameStop stock craze, which had a TIFF Gala premiere Sept. 8. and begins its theatrical rollout Sept. 15.
“It was such an insane moment in time,” says Ryder, who was interviewed before the SAG-AFTRA strike. “Everyone was on their phones, and I felt involved in that story — a good friend was pretty invested in it,...

It can take months to recover from burnout, but Del Water Gap attempts to find healing and balance in just three-and-a-half minutes on his latest single “Quilt of Steam.” The record, which will appear on his forthcoming album I Miss You Already + I Haven’t Left Yet, out September 29, features Arlo Parks, who also served as a co-writer and understands the familiar feeling of internal and external exhaustion all too well.

The Amazon Prime Video series “The Summer I Turned Pretty” has made a splash with its loaded soundtrack. By now it is safe to say that “The Summer I Turned Pretty” and Taylor Swift go hand in hand because author and show creator Jenny Han has made it so.
The first season had five Swift songs ranging from her “Lover” album to “Fearless (Taylor’s Version),” and the Season 1 trailer debuted “This Love (Taylor’s Version)” from the yet-to-be-released re-recorded “1989.” Season 2’s teaser was set to “August,” and then the official trailer debuted “Back to December (Taylor’s Version)” shortly before “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” was released July 7. Only time will tell if Season 2 ties Season 1 for how many Taylor Swift songs it contains.
The sequel season’s summer-y soundtrack also contains hits from repeat artists Olivia Rodrigo, Tyler the Creator, Caroline Polachek and more. A Fleetwood Mac ballad punctuates a particularly emotional scene,...

This Summer, A few hours before the release of her second album, Surrender, Maggie Rogers paused for a moment onstage at New York’s Webster Hall. She’d just performed the album’s loudest, angriest track, “Shatter,” when she proclaimed: “I need a shot.” She’s so real for that. The half-joke worked, as a plastic cup of tequila made its way from the venue’s back bar through a crowd of people dressed in white to Rogers, who downed it, seeming bemused yet grateful.
