It is possible to be “scared of nothin’ and … scared to death” at the same, at least so says Luke Combs, who holds his own bellowing about the virtues of the Sooner State over a torrent of wind and rain in the video for his new song, “Ain’t No Love in Oklahoma.” The song comes off the upcoming soundtrack to Twisters, the 28-years-late sequel to Twister (and grammarians will note that Combs’ double-negative suggests there is love in Oklahoma, even if it’s a North Carolinian turned Nashvillian singing his heart out.

Jelly Roll was the big winner at the CMT Music Awards for the second year in a row. Except this time, for the first time, his victories included the top award of the night: Video of the Year. Check out the complete list of winners here.
This year Jelly Roll won all three of his nominations: Video of the Year and Male Video of the Year for “Need a Favor,” and CMT Performance of the Year for his live performance of “Need a Favor” at the 2023 CMT Music Awards. Last year he also won Male Video of the Year (for “Son of a Sinner”) in addition to Male Breakthrough Video of the Year and CMT Digital-First Performance of the Year (also for “Son of a Sinner”). It seems, judging from his undefeated streak at these awards so far, that Jelly Roll has one of the most passionate fan bases in current country music.

Helping cement his status as country music’s newest superstar, Jelly Roll swept all three categories in which he was nominated Sunday night at the CMT Music Awards, including music video of the year for his gospel-flavored “Need a Favor.”
Likely having seen it coming, but also knowing Jelly Roll is a tough act to follow, the show’s producers saved his performance of his current country radio single “Halfway to Heaven” until the last five minutes of the telecast, coming right after his climactic win.
Other winners in the all-fan-voted results included fellow frontrunner Lainey Wilson for female video of the year for “Watermelon Moonshine” and Dan + Shay for duo/group video for “Save Me the Trouble.” Warren Zeiders picked up breakthrough male video for “Pretty Little Poison,” while Ashley Cooke won equivalent honors for breakthrough female video for “Your Place.
