Peter Thiessen (Mortsel, 1966) is a Belgian author and television and documentary maker.
After studying Germanic philology (University of Antwerp) and journalism (International Press Centre), Thiessen ended up in the television world. Together with Bert Van der Cruyssen (Bert Kruismans) and Kurt de Gendt, he founded the production company Het Vervolg, which is still active today.
As a showrunner, Thiessen was responsible for shows such as Rosa (VRT, 1994-1995), Kriebels (vtm, 1995-1998), Ciao Bella (Kanaal 2, 2001), Allez Allez Zimbabwe (vtm, 2004-2008), The Gala of the Golden Shoe (vtm, 2009-2010-2012) and Stukken van Mensen (Vier, 2015).
In 2015, he was one of the founders of the Belgian branch of the sports channel Eleven Sports Network, where he remained active until 2019.
As executive producer of Take Us Home: Leeds United (Amazon Prime, 2020), he was nominated at the Venice Festival in the Best Sports Documentary category.
In 2020 he was the founder of the art project De Potkasten, which also made art experience possible in corona times through individual audio theaters.
As an author, he made his debut in 2019 with "Margot, the bicycle & the gate closer", a literary thriller. In 2020 "Julien, the sausage & the black man" followed. In the same period he wrote a haiku collection (De Corona Cycle) after he himself came into contact with the virus and a collection of poems, illustrated with photos of his daughter Hanne. Peter Thiessen is married and has two children.
