Charles Grice “Lefty” Driesell, a Hall of Fame coach who made Maryland into a national power, died today at 92. He died at his home in Virginia Beach, Virginia, his family said, but did not disclose the cause.
Maryland planned to honor Driesell with a moment of silence before its game against No. 14 Illinois later today. The university said the team would wear throwback uniforms from the 1970s, last worn on Jan. 21, when the Terrapins honored Driesell with an “Ode to Lefty.”
Driesell finished with 786 victories over parts of five decades and was the first coach to win more than 100 games at four NCAA Division I schools. He started at Davidson, and then brought Maryland into national prominence from 1969-86, a stay that ended with the death of All-American Len Bias from a cocaine dose.

While a new chapter of wealth and success has begun for Franklin (Damson Idris) and the Saint Family, a disaster is just waiting to happen as the LAPD knocks down their door.

“Snowfall” will lean on history in Season 5 to buttress the plot and character arcs that turned the FX series about the plight of a crack kingpin and his family in South Central L.A. into one of the most compelling drama series on TV.
As Season 4 bowed, Damson Idris’ Franklin Saint was raring to take back his place as one of the most powerful drug lords in the world. Now three years later, he and his crew face a challenge largely out of their control but “are still in the game,” as showrunner Dave Andron puts it.
It’s a game Andron says is complicated with the historical backdrop of 1986, a critical year in the trajectory of federal drug sentencing laws that led to decades of mass incarceration for Black communities – and a year remembered for the death of a rising sports superstar.

FX is getting the ball rolling on 2022 premiere dates.
The cabler has confirmed premiere dates for Atlanta Season 3 and Snowfall Season 5.
Atlanta fans have been waiting since May 2018 for fresh episodes, and the waiting game concludes Thursday, March 24, 2022.
Two episodes will air from 10/9c that night, with episodes being made available for the first time the next day on Hulu.
While the wait between seasons has been long for the Donald Glover comedy, a fourth season has already been written, so we could be looking at a premiere date in 2023.
“What more can be said about Atlanta than the critical acclaim and accolades that Donald, Paul, Dianne, Stephen, and Hiro have earned for two exceptional seasons of what is clearly one of the best shows on television,” FX said in 2020 when the show nabbed a fourth-season renewal.

In the 1980s, the crack epidemic tore through America’s inner cities like a brushfire, and it was a devastating scourge. But it also left a seared trail of media images that were more concocted, simplistic, and racially biased than they pretended to be. Remember “crack babies”? The phenomenon of an infant born to a crack-addicted mother, with the infant damaged by (or addicted to) the drug, was something that on occasion did happen, but the news media, using radically distorted numbers, made it sound like an encroaching army of zombie babies. As for crack users themselves, two-thirds of them were white, yet you wouldn’t have dreamed that from the media coverage. Those trumped-up images, like crack itself, did their damage, leaving a residue of hyped sensation the way that junk food deposits chemicals in the body.
