Thirty years after introducing viewers to a sadistic serial killer in the Danish horror film Nightwatch (aka Nattevagten), writer/director Ole Bornedal has returned to the world of his harrowing film with the sequel Nightwatch: Demons Are Forever. Easily one of my favorite films of the year thus far, Nightwatch: Demons Are Forever is a relentlessly tense examination of the damaging effects of unresolved trauma on families, the painful healing of the grieving process, and how the past can literally come back to haunt you... with something sharp in its hands.
Featuring Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Kim Bodnia, and Ulf Pilgaard reprising their roles from the original Nightwatch alongside a talented roster of actors who are new to this franchise, Demons Are Forever is now streaming on Shudder, and Daily Dead caught up with writer/director Ole Bornedal to discuss continuing the story of Nightwatch 30 years later, exploring the aftereffects of violent trauma through his film's characters,...

Swedish-Polish director Magnus von Horn’s dark period drama “The Girl With the Needle” will compete for the Palme d’Or at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. Variety has been given exclusive access to a first-look clip from the film.
Written by von Horn and Line Langebek (“I’ll Come Running”), “The Girl With the Needle” is loosely based on the true story of Dagmar Overbye, a Danish woman who established an underground adoption agency in post-World War I Copenhagen to help poor women dealing with unwanted pregnancies.
Starring Trine Dyrholm, Vic Carmen Sonne and Besir Zeciri (“Wildland”), the film follows Karoline (Sonne), a young factory worker who is struggling to survive on the fringes of society. When she finds herself unemployed, abandoned and pregnant, she meets Dagmar (Dyrholm), a charismatic shopkeeper who helps poor mothers to find foster homes for their unwanted children.

Nordisk Film is joining Paradox’s The Last King (Birkebeinerne) as co-producer and distributor.
Nils Gaup directs from Ravn Lanesskog’s script, telling the story of real events from 1206 Norway, when skiers (otherwise known as Birkebeiners or ‘Birch legs’) saved the baby King Haakon from being killed.
Jakob Oftebro (Kon Tiki) and Kristoffer Hivju (Game of Thrones) will star in the €6m ($8.2m) film, which will shoot later this year.
Nordisk’s executive producer Lone Korslund and head of production Henrik Zein negotiated the deal with Paradox producers Stein B. Kvae and Finn Gjerdrum.
TrustNordisk will handle international sales.
The movie is supported by Norsk Filminstitutt and Eurimages, and is a coproduction between Paradox, Nordisk Film Production, Proton Cinema in Hungary and NewGrange in Ireland.
