- He is the only man to break the world, land and water speed records in the same year. Bluebird was the name of his legendary speedboat.
- He was awarded the CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) and Queens Commendation Medal for Brave Conduct.
- He was the son of Sir Malcolm Campbell and the father of Gina Campbell.
- He is remembered in the Marillion song "Out of this World" from the 1995 album "Afraid of Sunlight", written about the tragic circumstances of his death. The song also inspired the recovery of Bluebird by diver Bill Smith.
