As the second season nears its end, Invasion continues to meaninglessly meander along the same formulaic plot structure, making it incredibly frustrating to continue just watching the same thing repeated over and over. Basically, there are three sets of events that are repeated in every episode with little variation: Mitsuki is guilt-ridden and discovers something new about aliens, which puts humanity one step forward and immediately two steps back; everyone is convinced Caspar is the chosen one who will terminate the alien invasion for good, yet he never shows up when it is necessary; Aneesha just moves around places while trying to reunite her family and gets into problematic situations either by prejudice of outsiders or machinations of the government. At this point, even pointing out the same shortcomings feels tiresome and repetitive, but the makers don’t seem to bother about the apparent absence of a plotline.

When it comes to unwinding the central mystery of alien invaders, at times it feels like Apple TV+’s sci-fi drama Invasion seems to move around the same loop without actually revealing anything new. The first season had already hinted that some of the gifted teenagers, like Caspar and Luke, had an intriguing connection they shared with the aliens, and at present, the series is already halfway through its second season, hovering over that aspect only. In the previous episode, while making a rather bold decision, Mitsuki came into direct contact with the alien hive mind stationed at the research center, where she was confronted by a young version of Hinata and was able to peek through a portal door to look at Caspar on the other side. At the Movement shelter, Aneesha’s real identity was revealed, which initially put her in conflict with other group members, but the...

After a steady start to the second season with Something’s Changed, which showcased the new world order of a post-invasion dystopia, the second episode of Apple TV+’s Invasion, titled Chasing Ghosts, brings the narrative flow to an abrupt halt. Information that could have easily been added to any other episode with two additional narrative segments is needlessly stretched out to almost an hour-long episode, as it seems the makers are wilfully shackling down the otherwise strong potential that the first episode promised.
In the previous episode, viewers learned that four months after the invasion, the world government has mingled into a single overseeing organization named the Coalition, which is facing adversity in the presence of an insurgence group known as the Movement. The Coalition is also working with the eccentric, fabulously wealthy investor Nikhil Kapur, who abducts Mitsuki and requests that she venture into the alien mothership in...

The second season of Apple TV+’s sci-fi drama Invasion has returned with an intriguing first episode, which introduces some new characters and organizations while building on the previously established arcs of the former ones. The first season ended with humans being able to nuke down the alien mothership thanks to Mitsuki’s search revealing its coordinates and Casper’s neural connection with the alien lifeforms turning them ineffectual, only to discover the arrival of an even larger spaceship and their cavalry. After the tragic death of her husband Ahmed, Aneesha started adapting to a survivor lifestyle along with her children Luke and Sarah. In the aftermath of the second phase of the alien attack, the Earth has gone through some significant changes in a short period of time, which the first episode titled “Something’s Changed” focuses on.
