- He was a member of the squad in the World Cup tournaments of 1966, when he did not play, 1970 and 1974.
- After retiring, he ran an insurance agency for Gothaer Versicherung.
- He won 44 caps for the West German national team and scored five goals.
- On December 3, 2014, he was awarded the Hessian Order of Merit by the Prime Minister of Hesse, Volker Bouffier, together with Bernd Hölzenbein.
- In 1965 he joined Eintracht Frankfurt. With this team he won the German Cup in 1974 and 1975 and the UEFA Europa League in 1980.
