Mou Chan
- Writer
Chan Mou is a Chinese comic artist from Hong Kong. His first comic, "Unhuman" (Bu Shi Ren), based on a season of Three Kingdoms and published in 1996, earned him several awards and praise.
His pen name is Chan Mou (meaning Mr. Chan). The surname "Chan" is common, which not only reflects his modesty, but also allows him to stand out from main writers. Before his manhua career, he was a graphic designer for commercial advertisements. In the first volume of his Manhua "The Ravages of Time", he described a lack of interest in the current mainstream comics market. But it was his own passion for their actions and images that drove him to create his own comic.
As a child, Chan was interested in science fiction, comics and Ultraman. He studied fine arts at university. After graduation, he began working as a graphic designer in the advertising industry. He had experience in television and newspaper print advertising and was involved with senior management.
Not content with just handing out tasks, he was finally inspired to create his first freelance work, Unhuman, and enter it in a number of competitions.
Most of his works are related to history, mixed with fables and fairy tales. A reporter once asked Chan about history versus fable, and he replied that there is no such thing as real history. He believes that history is artificial, written by whoever conquered the earth. As such, lumping all fairy tales and novels into the history books may even defeat the credibility of the history books.
