Camila Cabello and Lil Nas X had a “trauma bond” experience the night they dropped their collab, “He Knows.”
The duo was about to head to West Hollywood gay club Heart to celebrate the song’s release when the elevator in Cabello’s building — packed with members of both artists’ teams, mind you — broke down. They were stuck inside for over an hour and everyone was, naturally, freaking out.
Well, not everyone. “Surprisingly, we were two of the calmest people in the elevator because panic attacks were happening left and right,...

One of the most visually ravishing movies I saw at Sundance Film Festival early this year was C.J. “Fiery” Obasi’s Mami Wata, “A West Afrikan Folklore,” as our exclusive debut of the alternate poster notes. The black-and-white Nigerian feature brings a folk-futurist style to the tale of a battle between opportunistic militants promising technological progress and a matriarchal spiritual order living in fragile harmony with the ocean. Picked up by Dekanalog for a theatrical release beginning on September 29 at Bam in NYC and Chicago’s Gene Siskel Film Center, the film will expand in the weeks to follow.
Here’s the official synopsis: “In the oceanside village of Iyi, the revered Mama Efe (Rita Edochie) acts as an intermediary between the people and the all-powerful water deity Mami Wata. But when a young boy is lost to a virus, Efe’s devoted daughter Zinwe (Uzoamaka Aniunoh) and skeptical...

It was 22 years ago that Skip Hollandsworth wrote a Texas Monthly article about Gary Johnson, a school teacher who moonlights as a hit man who doesn’t kill people. Now if that doesn’t sound like the formula for a hit movie, you may understand why it has taken so long for Gary’s story to make it to the silver screen — so long in fact that its subject passed away before he could hit the red carpet of the Venice Film Festival, where the film is having its world premiere tonight.
Nevertheless, Glen Powell never forgot the story and has teamed with Richard Linklater to finally tell it, though it is only “loosely” based on the original article. Certain details in the screenplay co-written by Linklater and Powell are made up, and those are the details that actually help make this a hilarious winner, as well as perhaps Linklater...

Richard Linklater’s features since his masterwork Boyhood (2014) — Apollo 10 ½: A Space Age Childhood, Where’d You Go, Bernadette, Last Flag Flying, and Everybody Wants Some!! — have been a decidedly mixed bag, but Hit Man finds him having a blast with a sexy black comedy boasting a sly streak of poignancy. Redoubtable supporting player Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick) here offers a career-boosting, range-flaunting turn as a geeky academic who stumbles into doing a very specific kind of undercover work for the police: posing as, per the title, a hit man.

Disenchantment is filled with a plethora of characters. All of them serve a purpose in the narrative and help to take it forward. The most recurring one was Bean’s father, King Zøg, who ruled the kingdom of Dreamland for a long time. The monarch happens to appear in the show all through the five seasons, imparting some kind of lesson to the viewers. It feels as if, along with Bean, her father also went through a transformation.
Spoilers Ahead
King Zøg Of Dreamland
King Zøg comes across as an obnoxious monarch who has no clue how to run the kingdom that was handed down to him after his brother died. He does and says bizarre stuff from the seat of his throne and does not try to understand the qualms of the people he is ruling over. ‘Disenchantment’ Season 5 Recap & Ending Explained: What Happens To Dreamland In Post Credits Scene?
Netflix’s popular original animated series, Disenchantment, has been going for four seasons, and the fifth season is the last we will see of our beloved character Bean. The series follows Princess Bean, a rebellious adventurer who has suddenly found a purpose in saving her kingdom, Dreamland, from her evil mother, Queen Dagmar. The story so far has been chaotic but fun to watch. The satirical humor layered with black comedy worked every time. Season five, created and written by Matt Groening, has once again come back with the same characters, and this time, they are headed toward a series finale. It will be interesting to know where all the characters end up by the end of this ten-episode show.
Spoilers Ahead
Bean’s Plans
Disenchantment Season 5 begins with the aftermath of Bean being thrown off the palace balcony by her mother, Queen Dagmar. Fortunately, Bean is saved by a mermaid named Mora.

The J-Horror Virus
One thing which you can always guarantee about Frightfest is that it will have a good selection of documentary content, and this year’s Pigeon Shrine-sponsored event is no exception. Sarah Appleton has been there before, in 2021, to present The Found Footage Phenomenon, which she made with Phillip Escott. She’s now teamed up with Jasper Sharp to create The J-Horror Virus. As soon as I heard that it would be screening there, I dropped her a line, and we arranged to have a chat about it – Jasper included, of course. She told me that she has been a fan of J-horror for as long as she can remember.
“When I was growing up, I think I watched basically all of the J-horror films,” says Sarah. “When I was really young they scared the shit out of me. I've always watched horror films, so in contrast to.

Despite doing well in its first season, Prime Video has sadly reversed its renewal of The Peripheral.
The change of heart likely stemmed from the dual strikes occurring across the industry.
The series starred Chloë Grace Moretz as Flynne Fischer, a woman who discovered a secret connection to an alternate reality as well as a dark future of her own.
What is one of the first of likely many strike-related cancellations, The Peripheral seemed to fare well on the streamer.
Each week, Twitter would be abuzz with theories and praise for the show, especially for the performances from Moretz and one of the lead antagonists, played by T'Nia Miller.
With the WGA on strike for over 100 days and SAG-AFTRA on strike for over a month, we expect there to be many similar cases of reversals when it comes to renewed series that hadn't already begun production.

Silas House, the poet laureate of Kentucky, was on a car ride with Tyler Childers when the songwriter pressed play on a new song he’d recorded called “In Your Love.” House was floored by what he heard. But then Childers made a request: Would House — an acclaimed author whose first novel, 2001’s Clay’s Quilt, had helped shape Childers’ appreciation for their shared home state —write a particular storyline for the song’s music video?

San Francisco, July 2 (Ians) A woman has revealed that her long-time client stopped working with her after discovering that she was using a ChatGPT-like artificial intelligence (AI) to write content.
Tina Sendin, who works a full-time job in marketing and does freelance writing on the side, shared her experience of using an AI writing tool to assist with her workload on Business Insider.
“I was juggling a lot when a longtime client commissioned me for a three-month project. It entailed writing a series of how-to guides and 56 articles for their site,” she wrote.
“Since I couldn’t clone myself, I tried what I thought would be the next best thing: I used AI.”
She started using Jasper.ai to create up to 20 pieces in a month for this client.

If you’re sad about Henry Cavill has chosen to release the upcoming episodes across two volumes this summer – meaning you won’t gorge the whole lot at once. The news is confirmed by this atmospheric new teaser, which promises all kinds of ominous things for the next batch of episodes.
As confirmed by the trailer, the first part of the season is due to stream on 29 June – followed around a month later by the second part, on 27 July. This tends to be the way for some bigger Netflix releases at the moment – perhaps a way to ensure audiences are caught up for bigger plot reveals midway through the season for greater impact, and ensure everyone sees the final episodes around the same time.
Not that there’s a huge amount of concrete stuff to go on in this teaser. It seems our finally-united family of Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri...
