Sony Pictures has won global distribution rights to the hot comedy package “My Ex-Friend’s Wedding,” a script co-written by buzzy author Taylor Jenkins Reid starring a murderers’ row of funny women.
Oscar winner Ariana DeBose, “Saturday Night Live” breakout Chloe Fineman, Amanda Seyfried and Megan Stalter are set as the core ensemble. The film follows four childhood best friends who receive a drunken voicemail from a former Bff on the eve of her wedding day — confessing that she thinks she’s making a mistake. The group sets out to stop her wedding and rekindle the friendship they once shared.
Comedy vet Kay Cannon, whose 2019 feature directorial debut “Blockers” over-performed at the box office, is directing. The script is from Ashley Rodger and Jenkins Reid. The latter could not be hotter at the moment, as the series adaptation of her novel “Daisy Jones & The Six” is about to hit Amazon Prime Video.

He’s set to star alongside previously announced cast members including Ed Harris, Vanessa Hudgens, Finn Wittrock, Jack Dylan Grazer, August Blanco Rosenstein and Lily Rabe.
The feature directorial debut of Rabe and Hamish Linklater is based on Chuck Klosterman’s New York Times bestselling novel of the same name. There, you won’t find cable or pop culture, but you will find a downtown with a first-rate Chevrolet dealership, three bars and a new high school English teacher whose presence upends the lives of locals, just in time for a white-out blizzard for the ages.
Linklater wrote the script for the project, which was part of the Sundance Institute Creative Producing Summit and Talent Forum.

Magnolia Pictures has acquired the U.S. rights to Buffaloed, the Tribeca Film Festival comedy from director Tanya Wexler (Hysteria) and producer-star Zoey Deutch, the scene-stealing co-star of Zombieland: Double Tap.
Magnolia has set Valentines Day as a theatrical and on-demand release date for Buffaloed.
“Buffaloed is a hoot from start to finish,” said Magnolia President Eamonn Bowles. “Tanya Wexler’s direction is perfectly on point and Zoey Deutch kicks major ass.”
The full synopsis from Magnolia describes Buffaloed as “an engrossing comedy about a natural-born hustler and her descent into the unorthodox world of debt collection as a way out of her seemingly dead-end life in Buffalo, New York. Buffalo is the debt collection capital of America, though Peg Dahl (Zoey Deutch) never saw herself in that world. She’s bet on her sharp mind—and even sharper mouth—to get her out of town and into an Ivy League university.

“Do you want to see a haunted house.” I’m going to with No! on this one.
CBS Films, Lionsgate and eOne has released a brand new trailer for Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark. I can’t wait for this one!
It’s from the director of the 2010 Norwegian dark fantasy film Troll Hunter, André Øvredal.
In his review Travis Keune wrote, “Director Andre Ovredal wisely keeps keep the creatures hidden in the shadows, providing only quick glimpses, mostly through night-vision cameras. It’s a smart technique and really the only way this movie would work since these monsters are so goofy-looking (think Where the Wild Things Are crossed with Ed ‘Big Daddy’ Roth) that lingering on them would dilute the substantial tension that’s generated. The concept is so preposterous and the creature design so loony-tunes that it’s somewhat miraculous what Ovredal has pulled off here...

Guillermo del Toro delved deep into his past Thursday to explain the profound hold that “Scary Stories in the Dark” has on him.
“I basically was roaming through a bookstore, in San Antonio, Texas,” he said at a Hollywood event to launch the movie’s teaser trailer. “I was in my early teens, and I came upon this volume that had an irresistible title: ‘Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.’ The cover illustration was so creepy, and I started browsing it, and the illustrations got me first, but Alvin Schwartz’s retelling of the tales was incredibly efficient and lean and mean.”
Del Toro, who’s now 54, is a producer on “Scary Stories in the Dark.” He recalled that “Scary Stories” came back into his life in the aftermath of the 1997 kidnapping of his father in Mexico. James Cameron paid the $1 million ransom and the event left del Toro in tough financial shape.
