San Francisco, June 13 (Ians) Following two years of VR announcements and reveals, Upload VR has returned to E3 with its third annual showcase of the most inventive and intriguing games coming to VR.
According to The Verge, as the medium continues to mature year after year, it continues to be a platform for developers to innovate.
While not all of the games shown were brand new announcements, here are five games from the showcase that one can look forward to immersing themselves in soon.
First announced for Psvr earlier this year, 'Song in the Smoke' is a VR survival game and a departure for developer 17-Bit, better known for cartoony indie games like 'Skulls of the Shogun' and 'Galak-z'.
In a new developer diary, studio CEO Jake Kazdal explains how VR made him want to create not just a game but a fully living and breathing world. It's...

Skulls of the Shogun is the highly-anticipated, accessible, asynchronous turn-based strategy game in development by 17-bit. It has gathered many promises of day one purchases through its impressive demonstrations at various events, but exactly when that day will be has so far been incredibly speculative. Whilst still far from a confirmed date, the developers have now stated their intention to release alongside Windows 8 on October 26.
Due to launch on Xbla, Windows Phone 7, Windows 8 and Surface simultaneously (within the same week), Skulls of the Shogun releasing alongside the new version of Windows, which boasts gaming integration as one of its main features, makes a lot of sense. However, the announcement did come with the following get-out clause by 17-bit‘s Jake Kazdal:
“We’re certainly shooting for day one release with Win 8, and it looks very likely, but nothing is set in stone yet.”
With the amount of anticipation behind the project,...

One of the most buzzed-about games at this year's Pax Prime was the innovative real-time strategy adventure "Skulls of the Shogun." The debut title from Haunted Temple Studios updates the grid-based formula of Rts games like "Final Fantasy Tactics" and "Advance Wars" by letting players move freely and advance and retreat within a round. "SotS" plays more like an action title than other games in the tactics/Rts design lineage and it seems to be stirring up a legion of fans who've been quietly waiting for this style of game to move into the 21st Century.
I had a chance to speak to Jake Kazdal, the president and founder of Haunted Temple about his inspirations for "Skulls of the Shogun" and plans for future versions of the game.

Skulls of the Shogun will be published by Microsoft for Xbox Live Arcade. The game is under development by Haunted Temple Studios, which was founded by industry veteran Jake Kazdal and ex-Command and Conquer 4 developers after Electronic Arts closed the La studio. Kazdal's previous work includes Rez, Space Channel 5 and Boom Blox. "This studio has kind of the best of both worlds," Microsoft's Xbla publishing director Ted Woolsey told Gamasutra. "On the one hand, they practically personify the kind of Diy ethos and independent spirit that's the hallmark of today's most exciting developers. "More than (more)...
