- Yosyp Tymchenko was born on April 26, 1852 in Okip, Kharkiv Governorate, Russian Empire [now Kharkiv Oblast, Ukraine]. Yosyp was a director and cinematographer, known for Skachuschiy vsadnik (1893) and Kopemetatel (1893). Yosyp died on May 20, 1924 in Odessa, Ukrainian SSR, Soviet Union [now Ukraine].

- Majorly self-taught inventor, who only had church school under his belt in regards of formal education.
- Name is often mistakenly transliterated as "Joseph Timchenko".
- Has dozens of inventions.
- Had no belief in commercial or artistic value of movies and mainly invented his kinescope as a scientific instrument. The camera was never patented.
